Baby raccoons are cute but overwhelming!

  • Three baby raccoons found, approximately 3 weeks old. Raised until a shelter could be found that would take them. Relocated to a full functioning facility at 7 weeks. Take my advice...DO NOT attempt to raise baby wild animals on your own. They require special diets and expert care practically around the clock. They start out cute but quickly become a "handful". Leave it to the professionals.

    Baby raccoons need as much attention as human babies. Once they get bigger and are housebroken, they become independent, but you still need to show them love and take care of them, like any other pet. Definitely, raccoons are not toys. It is difficult not to love them. They are amazing.❤

    If they had rabies they would be dead already. They suckle for comfort, not just food. They are a lot of work, 24/7. Good luck, it's well worth helping these little critters.

    They are so adorable but yes I must agree they are quite a handful. I only have one that was abandoned and Left 4 Dead and is approximately three to four weeks of age his eyes are still closed. I cannot even imagine having three of him LOL. God bless you love thank you for sharing

    They're so smart. They're a handful as adults. I can't imagine the work required to care for the babies. I watched a news program about a wildlife rehab that's saying that raccoons require a special infant formula specifically for them. $250 a bucket. Feeds 8 babies for a month. Or 4 babies for 2 months,and so on.

    My gf and i found 2 6 week old raccoon last week and took them home to take care of them. We tried finding an animal shelter but where i live everything is completely full, so since their too young to go on their own we are keeping them for now till the get bigger/older to release them. I live in toronto, and i dont know about anywhere else but they are illegal to keep as 'pets' here. Which sucks cuz they are fun and they get along with cats, just trying to figure out more food options. We are currently feeding them kitten milk or something like that, any tips would be awesome..

      Chris L-w have you called wildlife rescue groups? There are also certain groups out there meant specifically for raccoon rescue and even raccoon habitats! You may even be able to get one to USA if there isn't any in your area or they can't take them. They should help you find a place. You usually can't raise them inside and then release into the Wild because they don't know how to fend for themselves, find food, make dens, socialize etc because they weren't raised by Mommy in the wild. So you're going to need to find a wildlife rescue, animal sanctuary or raccoon specific sanctuary. You have a lot of research and calling around to do to find arrangements for them! Good luck! Make sure you keep them warm - Lots of blankets and a heat lamp! They can't regulate their body temps when they're super young! Whatever you do - don't release them back into the wild! They'll die, even if they're full grown!! You have to find somewhere for them to go!

      Jintana Clements call any local wildlife rescue you can as soon as possible. They can help you. Also search the Internet (not YT) because there are a bunch of pages that are devoted to telling you step by step instructions of what to do and what to feed them etc. Bur make sure you call a wildlife rescue as they can really help you, they may even be able to take them for you which would je better than you trying to do it yourself! Good luck! Make sure to keep them super warm - blankets and a heat lamp!

    Raccoons can carry several dangerous diseases including rabies. While incidents of rabid raccoons attacking humans are rare, it's not something you want to risk. Raccoons carry two other diseases, roundworm and leptospirosis, that can also be transmitted to humans and pets.

    • @Kevin-nm8ih
      @Kevin-nm8ih Před 11 měsíci

      Roundworm is not a disease and leptospirosis is a possibility with dirty water. It's also a concern for any cat or dog that drinks outside water, although there are vaccines for it. It is also doubtful that a raccoon would birth kits while being sick with rabies, so the babies aren't going to have rabies. Animals with rabies die pretty quickly.
      Racoons are nocturnal, so if you see one in the daytime, something is amiss. That's when you start thinking rabies. They can be mean, but that's their nature, not a disease. If you don't know a raccoon, stay away from it. If one aggressively attacks you, and you haven't been aggressive towards it, think rabies. I'd be more afraid of armadillos. They can carry leprosy.

    • @annak2922
      @annak2922 Před 6 měsíci

      And so can other pets. This is why all dogs and cats need veterinarian care and all the required shots. Raccoons are no different. Rabies happens in plenty other species, including household and farm animals. When raccoons receive their shots, they are safe to keep.

    How about feeding one at a time until it's full before going on to the next little critter. They're cute, and you can easily be lulled into thinking it's tame but unlike skunks, raccoons can never be domesticated. After 6 months old, they develop 2 settings; Angry and ANGRIER! That's when they start becoming dangerous. You will never be able to keep one for long.
