Don't Make this Mistake with Your Pet Raccoon!

- Its important to know the risks to both you and your raccoon. This video gives some information on some of the common diseases raccoons transmit and how to reduce the chances of getting them.
1) Rabies: Since there hasn't been enough testing done on rabies vaccines for raccoons the shots aren't trusted. They are still important to get regardless. A potential for protection is better than no protection.
2) Raccoon Round Worm: When you first get your raccoon its important to get checked at the vet. Once they are clear of the problem they won't readily be reinfected. This can cause a lot of health problems for humans so its important to get them checked out as soon as possible.
3) Distemper: When you go to the vet make sure to get the ferret vaccine. Dog distemper vaccine can be ineffective, and potentially cause distemper in your raccoon.
This is the information I have gleaned from the vet, and other people. Do your own research, and ask your own veterinarian!

You've got powdery mildew on your vegetables. Spray them with 2 table spoons baking soda, mixed with 1 table spoon olive oil and a squirt of dish soap in a gallon of water. Spray the leaves.

IMO, raccoons being a prime vector for rabies is EXACTLY why they should be researching raccoon treatments, as well as treatments for all the other prime vectors.
Rabies is a biological menace, and what better way to put it down than to protect and neutralize the vectors. Unhooking the links in it's chain...
Exactly. Rabies in animals like raccoons and rodents is a very serious and real problem that can cause a lot of potential damage to people and animals alike.
Personally I think Lymes is a much greater risk factor as it can be carried into your home on so called "field mice." Most people do get their pets vaccinated for rabies. I'm too well acquainted with Lymes myself!

USDA/APHIS do vaccinate wild raccoons both by hand (trapped) by injection, hand scatter, and airdrop RABORAL V-RG bait for raccoons and other critters to eat. On the east coast they have a massive problem with rabies. Where I live in Arizona we had a Lynx come down with it and ran into a bar. Kinda puzzling that no one would think to vaccinate raccoons for rabies. That seems like one of the better ways to reduce the numbers of infections out there.

Madison A well I have had cats before, and I really want a raccoon but I'm all about animal advocate so unless I can give a raccoon a wonderful life, I won't do it. So what do you mean by prepared? I don't know if I am or not! I've watched videos of pet and it seems like everything I can do but that certainly isn't explaining everything and most just say it can be hard but don't really say the bad or challenging thing about it.

I just found your channel and I love it! What I love is how well you know and understand your buddy Tito. I wanted you to know cats are similar, especially my Cahill. He has destroyed 3 chargers, cut my arms, neck and back ( on accident). I thought it was cute when he was a baby and he would jump from ... anywhere... to get on my back and perch on my neck. He was 2 lbs.... how cute, RIGHT? Well now he is a beautiful, type A full grown male cat... fully clawed.😣. My fault, not his. So I feel your pain when Tito scratches you. Love that you are so good to Tito. You rock! Oh and I have watched 4 generations of raccoons grow up wild. They are pretty huge! Beautiful, but huge.

Hey I’m new to the channel and I love Tito. Does he get along with the rest of your family and does he knows any tricks
well, you're having fun with this racoon pet and that's a good thing. my aunt had one as a pet too. the thing is as long as people know that in some parts (most parts) of the country racoons are not pets and actually are a source of food/dinner (respectfully). we have eaten many of them here and cooked them every which way under the sun. they are a difficult animal to keep as a pet as i'm sure you are learning. enjoyed video and thumbed up.

Raccoons do get parvo. Rehabbers have been using canine distemper/parvo vaccines for raccoons with success. So every raccoon should be vaccinated for rabies, distemper, and parvo (both canine and feline panleukopenia).
The biggest mistake is taking their eggs

Really Enjoyed this video man. Him being too fat to climb through the fence made me LOL! Go to your local bait shop and get 4 or 5 large minnows. He will have fun chasing them and they will be a treat for him. Just put them in your blue "pond" :) Make his day!!!

Tito The Raccoon yeah, goldfish have a lot of fat and little nutritional value. The conditions they’re raised in are poor as well so that often get sick, though it usually only affects pet fish they are fed to.
That, or crayfish. Would be entertaining, and he would have a challenge chasing and catching
