My son's doctor told me not to make a big deal about it, just eat the food myself and eventually my kid would want to try what I'm eating and enjoying so much. And guess what he's a healthy happy boy. I didn't like certain vegetables as a kid and now I love them. Taste buds are still developing as a kid and parents want way too much control over what they kids eat. I definitely don't agree with the way these parents made a huge deal and then gave in and gave him bread. And I don't agree with the kid crying to get what he wants but I also don't think its that bad or manipulative as people claim. (for the kid).what else do you expect a kid to do when someone else is controlling his life and all of his choices? They cry and try to fight it. Thats normal. You would be crying as an adult if someone controlled all of your choices and decisions and you just had to cry to change that. Doesn't mean it's a bad kid. He's just coping. Parents definitely could of dealt with it better by not making such a big deal about it and making such a stressful environment around eating time. Especially if doctor isn't concerned about his health.

    • @highlyfavoured73
      @highlyfavoured73 Před 2 lety +8

      @@lc4life369 but the doctor WAS concerned about his health. They said he was developing mouth ulcers and who knows what else that wasn't mentioned in the video. If all you eat is bread, you're missing out on some major nutrients needed for a healthy life. Also note that after he started eating other foods, the mom reported he had more energy and was generally happier. Sometimes you need to be forced into doing what's best for you when you don't quite understand that your behavior is harming.
      As nurturing as mothers naturally are, it's fairly easy to see how she would make a big deal out of mealtimes when her child is engaging in self-destructive behavior. Not saying her actions were good, clearly they were not, but they were understandable.

He refuses to eat any fruits, veggies, meats, mashed potatoes, etc. The only three things that he will eat are pasta with butter, donuts, and gummy bears. Not a whole lot of nutrition there! He won't even eat chicken nuggets. It's all about the texture. It has been an exhausting uphill battle for them and they are constantly trying to gradually introduce new foods to him to expand his diet and get some actual nutrition into him. Parents can read child development books to learn what normal milestones are. A 3 1/2 year old should not be using bottles, pacifiers or babyish things. They should be able to calm themselves with a lovey and fall asleep on their own without pacifier or a bottle. Help your children progress rather than keeping them at a certain stage you might prefer. Children GROW. Parents should be aware of their child's development and what to expect at particular stages of life.

    • @bubbles7398
      @bubbles7398 Před 2 lety

      I do agree with that but child development books that state normal milestones don’t work for kids with special needs, developmental delays, or autism. My son still uses a bottle at 5 and a pacifier to chew on (it keeps him from biting people so I won’t fight it as he tells me he wants to bite especially when overstimulated). He has Autism and ADHD (pretty severe I’d say. He was diagnosed with ADHD at 4 and almost no one will diagnose that young unless severe. He has to be on 2 meds just to control it one a stimulant and one a non stimulant). His therapist does agree that if he verbalized that he wanted a bottle or paci because it helps not to fight it. I’d much rather him have a bottle or paci than bite me or others because he has a sensory need to bite something.

      Exactly. Idk why the parents are so stressed about it. That can actually partly cause the issue in the first place. Did his doctor state any health concerns. I hated many vegetables as a kid that I love now as an adult. Never had any health issues. The making a big deal about it then allowing him to get his way is far worse than not making a big deal about it and giving him the choice. Someday he might decide to try something and realize he's missing out. My child's doctor litterly told me that too. Don't make a big deal about it because that just makes the anxiety about new foods worse. Sometimes it's better to just eat the food yourself infront of kid. Eventually they will want to try what your having and enjoying so much.

      That isn’t always true. Kids with Autism may not or even ADHD (can cause sensory and texture issues). I know when I was a kid if it wasn’t something I liked I just wouldn’t eat until I got something I liked. Was diagnosed with ADHD at 15 after I spoke up and said I couldn’t focus or could focus on 5 things at once. Before I knew my son had Autism I got him exactly what he asked for at a Chinese place. He barley ate almost 24 hours earlier and only after he wanted Chinese and I told him it was Chinese. He was 3. Now good luck getting him to eat something he doesn’t want or like. If he’s having a period of time he wants only junk I supplement with a kids Boost Essential or 2 a day to make sure he gets what he needs when I run out of kids gummy vitamins. He only started eating more fruits and veggies after I started growing some at home one year and he helped plant them, water them, pick them, etc.

    There is an easier way to treat Rio's situation. Let him live with another family like an aunt's for a week or 2 and have lots of interesting activities to deplete his energy. Delay meal time to ensure he is really really hungry and offer soft delicious food since his body is not used to many types of food. Take away the food whether it is eaten or not at the end of meal time. Don't use angry tone or react if he has a melt down, just act like nothing happened. If he is in the same household as his own, his brain is programmed to reject food other than bread and butter.

      Yeah. I am a picky eater, so I really empathize with Rio's concerns about texture. When those kinds of concerns/preferences pop up, they are something to navigate, not something to either go "Oh, he just doesn't like the texture of food. Oh well!" or say "Well, sucks to be him. He can either eat what is in front of him or starve."
      "Three bites to be polite/try it" is a solid first starting point when texture issues pop up. Working with the kid to give them language to what about the texture they do or do not like, and working to experiment in modifying foods to be palatable is a good step in the right direction as well. You shouldn't be a personal chef for your kids, but also: they should be able to eat more than just 'bread and butter' for every meal.
      I'm hoping Rio's malnutrition was why the family called Jo, but it's sad it got to the level it got to before they asked for help.

    Ive always felt like Sugar highs was a myth and parents actually kinda brainwash their kids to think that way. So they do what they think they are supposed to do when they eat sugar (get hyper and obnoxious). I never told my child that and he's never acted any different when he has sugar.

      Agree. I remember seeing a health report that the notion that kids get hyper from sugar was based on anecdotal stories from adults who observed kids running around at birthday parties and other social events where dessert was served (where they'd be running around anyway, even if no sugar was present).

      "Mah beybeh" mom yeah. Selfish. Get a doll instead of conceiving a precious innocent human for your own clay modeling needs!

    The minute Rio stopped eating good except bread and butter. There would have been no more bread and butter in my house, and doctors until one could fix the problem. 4 years...ate you kidding me

    Maybe Rio has AFRID, (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder ) its a newer eating disorder and its linked to picky eaters. AFRID therapy is just getting momentum and helping kids being exposed to food they thought they didn't like.
    In any case Jo knows exactly whats going on hehe

    I don't understand how sugary fruit like bananas & a big chunk of bread full of carbs (which is immediately turned in to sugar by the body) is an actual low sugar lunch. Low sugar lunch would've been a serving of meat/protein & vegetables with no additional sauces or calories on the side!

    My kids were raised in the 90s. I was raised in the 70s and we never heard anything about sugar and hyper. It started to creep in after I already knew that I didn’t see any difference in my kids. I also gave spankings and now I have three grown sons that are normal. I would have considered medication for the little girl that pulled her hair out, but we also were very laid-back with the laid-back babysitter and we probably would’ve given it a long time to see if she calm down. All my kids ate all their meals with no problems. I was so lucky in a lot of stuff that people have problems with.
