Tactics is the first good Gears game since 2011, but I'm guessing who made this doesn't like that genre. Maybe not characters, but definitely went back to that brutal feeling and the good era of Gears.

If they would have released it in 2017-2019 and took time to actually work on it, I think it would have been really good but unfortunately Microsoft has few to no companies that really care to make masterpieces.

I remember biking from school over to the game store to pick up my copy as soon as school let out on a Friday afternoon. That game was sooo freaking good. I’ve put hundreds of hours into gears 3. My dad and I, practically, lived in horde mode back in the day. We reached Wave 50 on hardcore difficulty on every map (my dad can only handle so much 😂) Our go-to map was trenches. That fricken sand storm was so cool back then; and it makes me sad it never got remastered in Gears 5.
Coming from someone who has played every game starting with the launch of gears 1, have no idea why 4 and 5 get so much hate. They're so damn good. Characters and story aren't as interesting because it's kind of a retread, but the set pieces, level design, moment to moment gameplay, and the graphics are all superb. Besides, I feel like Gears 1 was the only Gears that didn't have the "bro power" motif. Overhated, underrated, especially Gears 5.
The problem with four is that it has nothing new to offer but reused material, and the color pallet for 4 and 5 was too bright/clean. Gears 5 was just ass they shoehorn ed in kate as the main character and she is the most annoying manchild every. All past character were perfessional solider that didn't follow orders when their was no other choice. Kate does whatever she wants whenever with no punishment. Marius got a life sentence and baird got court marshaled.
For me, 4, and 5's campaigns don't live up to the "of War" title. The games themselves are great, but they seem to have forgotten what Gears of War was really about...also Kait was annoying asf in 5
@@elininja2130 Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't love the story. It's whatever, even bad at times. It's just that I don't think that's the biggest appeal of Gears of War. I don't think any of the stories are particularly amazing, even though they were undoubtedly better in the original trilogy. It's the set pieces and amazing gameplay that always kept bringing me back. And as far as gameplay goes, I feel it is as good as ever. No complaints there. The series definitely could afford to be more bold and inventive, but I'm fine with them just sticking with what works and refining it as well. Maybe won't win any awards, but I'm fairly content with it.
I actually really enjoyed Judgement. I know its a little different but it was a pretty good time going thru on Hardcore, doing all the challenges and 3 starring them. And it was nice to get backstory to Baird and Cole.
Still don't enjoy how they made levels have no designs infavour of being a constant horde mode but unlike gears 3, judgement provided variety to not feel boring

@@97carrera I disagree, I like the idea of it being semi openworld, but some of the writing for the characters, and overall vibe of the game just doesn't hold a candle to the Gears of War trilogy. Even Gears of War 4 tried to somewhat keep the horror what the locust are. Gears 5 just doesn't have the fundamental tone or grittiness the originals had.

Hopefully E-Day lives up to the expectation because I'm super hyped after seeing the trailer, looks like they returned to their essence and brought back the darkness in the games that they had lost

Besides the Locusts Wars Ended, they had to pull something out of their ass. WARNING: it's a long comment I loved it! And I played Gears 2, 3 and Judgement before 4 was even announced, when they announced it my dad and I played it, and the only thing I didn't like was how reliant it was on horde style gameplay, when it was your typical gameplay it was fine, the addition of the storms was interesting though annoying at time, and the general enemies introduced were really great for the beginning of a new era, but Gears 5? WOOOH! Dude I have just as many good memories of that game as Gears 3, which at the time was my favorite game of the franchise, Gears 5 has some of the most interesting changes I've seen so far in the franchise (well technically Gears Tactics is the most different hehe). Gears 5 has everything great from 4 and excels on the formula of the previous games, while also building up on the lore presented in Gears 2 and alluded to in Gears 3, Gears of War as a whole is the reason 5 is so good, but it's also a great upgrade in many levels, visually one of the most realistic so far, the reflections on the armors, the blood stains on your character after a fight, the environmental lighting is on point. Just wonderful, and the mechanics on the gameplay were also improved, having stealth by itself is great, though the AI must be improved for that, as there were times in which I played single player and Del would just walk in front of a corrupted DB, much better with a real person, also the slight change on how powerful the OG Lancer is in this game is one of my favorite things, this iconic weapon deserved this power up it got, making headshots taking enemies down quickly, the chainsaw also having a slightly quicker reaction, the impact and damage of the gnasher is kept from Gears 4 and presents a greater threat for the player with the more powerful Grenadiers, the new base pistol is a good addition, though because of the lack of need of it in lower difficulties I didn't needed it, but on a higher difficulty? Boy I'm glad I had it.

Gears 5 was really good with a consistent story, expanded lore and world building, fun and well written interactions and dialogue, and a nice addition of choices actually making impacts to the story. What hell is everyone's problem with it? 4 was okay, but 5 absolutely doesn't deserve the hate.

The original trilogy was absolutely amazing. When I saw Gears 1, I swear I got Unreal Tournament vibes, but like in a different way and the way they did cover system made so many companies copy it in future games. But when Gears 2 & 3 hit, it was a major emotional rollercoaster and really settled the lore of Sera and bumped up the scale of "humanity on the brink." Gears 2 and 3 really, really, REALLY are benchmarks in gaming history when it comes to game series / trilogies. But when I got to Gears 4 & 5, all the charm and high stakes of the original trilogy was pretty much lost. I didn't enjoy them nearly as much and the enemies were "okay." I am just so glad that E-Day got announced and we're most likely going to go back to that original trilogy feel where so much is at stake and humanity is going to be getting slammed by the Locust horde. It's going to be a lot of death, loss, sadness, pain, and tales of revenge in E-Day.
Not even kidding. Took us like 3 or so years. But my friend and I played through all the games on insane. We did the original Gears 1 long ago. Either when backwards compatability came out or even before. We then did Remastered. Was fun. But the cut content they added in killed that run for us. It's in like a movie theatre. We had to stop playing for like 3 or so months. It was just so unbalanced for insane coop. 1 person dies and you have to restart it. Gears 2 was a lot more fun. But we stopped right around the area where your on the floating platforms where they transport prisoners. There's a scene with a checkpoint, where you immediately spawn in front of a dude on a turret. We also just kind of lost interest and waited a couple months. The mission where you control a tank is still something we laugh about today. Cause one person drives and the other shoots. You also get killed in a couple hits from even turrets. So we had to play a game of cat and mouse and slowly poke out every time. Took forever. Gears 3 we beat in record time. What with Active reload. The only difficult part was the final boss where they obviously didn't test it for insane. We got all ready to go and play Judgment. But my friend for some reason his save data didn't transfer all the way. Cause it retained his level. But said he never completed the main campaign and couldn't play on insane. An obnoxious old game practice I am glad is done with mostly. Then we went on to 4, and that's where everything went down hill. There's a ton of weird stuff with it. Like the respawn system. Unlike in the OG Gears. Your partner dies and it's checkpoint restart. A stupidly obnoxious feature. Then the story was nonsensical as well. There was some weird plotline of Kate or whatever her name hating the idea of pregnancy. Which carried onto 5. The story was so sloppy and awful in comparison to the weakest of the OG Gears game. Definately felt like they didn't have a story to tell and a reason to bring back old characters, but more so it felt like Microsoft wanted a new Gears game and by golly are they gonna get it. My friend and I ended up just having to use cheats after a certain point. Infinite health. Was not fun at all. Gears 5 is one of the biggest piles of poo I've seen. The story is x50 worse. Now we have characters pregnant for some reason. I thought they were gonna go down the route of allowing us to choose between having Kate go down the evil route and become the Queen or do the good route. Was kind of getting excited. But then they ruined it. The only likable character is barely in the game. A more open world Gears game isn't a bad idea. But awfully executed. None of the charm of open world games was brought over. They continued the awful respawn system. The trailers leading up to the game were so bad that I actually didn't think it was an official trailer and thought it was fan made. Had Billy Elish in it I think? Came across as an edgy teenagers angst video. Them removing the name "Gears of War" with "Gears" was a red sign for me. It actually felt like the studio has disdain for the fans. Like they're upset they're being made to make this game. I also don't know a single person that was mildly interested in Gears 5. It was announced the reaction I saw was more "oh yeah... more gears" Gears 5 actually seemed like some teenagers Wattpad story. Fanfiction at best and their own work at worse. Because they honestly seem like they want to make a different game. But are stuck with Gears. We quit playing the game. Got so awful and boring. Story was too frustrating to continue playing. I truly felt like the best bet would've been to do gigantic remakes of the OG trilogy. Like maybe add on to the already existing stuff, while heavily improving the graphics and combat. Maybe adding in new weapons, missions, collectables, enemies or wacky modifiers to the game you can do. I could've seen them releasing the OG trilogy individually and being a great success. Maybe allow for hype to get built up and maybe allow the new studio to get passionate about the game series. My friend and I just started a day ago playing through Judgment, and are gonna replay again on insane afterwards and get that achievement.

I know some people (minority) can handle Part 2's story, and others dislike the story and characters, but enjoy the simple fighting/shooting mechanics with good animations, and looting for 40% of the gameplay, but that's not me. I understand Uncharted 3 wasn't as good as Uncharted 2, but that doesn't mean I think that game is "trash". Gears 5 is a good game, so imagine how much it surprises me to see people calling it "trash".

The OG trilogy was unstoppable. Great story and character development rounded out by excellent cover-based gameplay. I wouldn't trade any time spent locking in on Gears 3 horde mode

There's a lot of bickering in the comments let me settle this dispute. Gears Judgment: Made to be prequel to gears 1 to let us understand the characters Baird and Cole better. Multiplayer not awful. Gears 1/UE: Both amazing gameplay dark theme to the world of sera got us all hooked multiplayer pretty good. Gears 2: Made to give us a sense of love and hate for some characters also got us hooked in the campaign, better multiplayer. Gears 3: An epic and sad end to a beloved franchise. Gears 4: The kick off to another amazing tour of duty with the COG Army campaign better then Gears 5. Multiplayer beloved by all. Gears 5: Campaign weren't so good because of if it's horrendous cut to the trilogy. Multiplayer pretty balance mixture of Gears 4 and 3.
Bro gears of war 3 did something for me and my family. My dad loved gears so much he got me and my brother into it and we played endlessly on 1 and 2 and when 3 finally came out it was an unimaginable, unforgettable experience and im forever grateful for this franchise [despite 4 and 5]
Honestly I played all of them and what was the most iconic game in that whole stack was the first 3 gears games and gears 4 is a solid game it's not bad it's very solid and gears 5 honestly if they gave it a lil more years to work on it like how the did the first 3 hands down would've been a pretty damn good game

I will never forget the horror of the factory and the pure craziness of killing that giant ass worm. Not to mention the crazy speech from come train in the locust hive. Gears 2 had to be the most fun and game changing in the series, gears 1 and 3 were definitely a close second. But damnit I just miss waking up on Saturday morning and playing execution with my boys on gears two. I must’ve replayed that campaign half a million times and enjoyed it every time.

Characters and story aren't as interesting because it's kind of a retread, but the set pieces, level design, moment to moment gameplay, and the graphics are all superb. Besides, I feel like Gears 1 was the only Gears that didn't have the "bro power" motif. Overhated, underrated, especially Gears 5.
The problem with four is that it has nothing new to offer but reused material, and the color pallet for 4 and 5 was too bright/clean. Gears 5 was just ass they shoehorn ed in kate as the main character and she is the most annoying manchild every. All past character were perfessional solider that didn't follow orders when their was no other choice. Kate does whatever she wants whenever with no punishment. Marius got a life sentence and baird got court marshaled.

For me, 4, and 5's campaigns don't live up to the "of War" title. The games themselves are great, but they seem to have forgotten what Gears of War was really about...also Kait was annoying asf in 5
@@elininja2130 Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't love the story. It's whatever, even bad at times. It's just that I don't think that's the biggest appeal of Gears of War. I don't think any of the stories are particularly amazing, even though they were undoubtedly better in the original trilogy. It's the set pieces and amazing gameplay that always kept bringing me back. And as far as gameplay goes, I feel it is as good as ever. No complaints there. The series definitely could afford to be more bold and inventive, but I'm fine with them just sticking with what works and refining it as well. Maybe won't win any awards, but I'm fairly content with it.

I actually really enjoyed Judgement. I know its a little different but it was a pretty good time going thru on Hardcore, doing all the challenges and 3 starring them. And it was nice to get backstory to Baird and Cole.

I disagree, I like the idea of it being semi openworld, but some of the writing for the characters, and overall vibe of the game just doesn't hold a candle to the Gears of War trilogy. Even Gears of War 4 tried to somewhat keep the horror what the locust are. Gears 5 just doesn't have the fundamental tone or grittiness the originals had.

I loved it! And I played Gears 2, 3 and Judgement before 4 was even announced, when they announced it my dad and I played it, and the only thing I didn't like was how reliant it was on horde style gameplay, when it was your typical gameplay it was fine, the addition of the storms was interesting though annoying at time, and the general enemies introduced were really great for the beginning of a new era, but Gears 5? WOOOH! Dude I have just as many good memories of that game as Gears 3, which at the time was my favorite game of the franchise, Gears 5 has some of the most interesting changes I've seen so far in the franchise (well technically Gears Tactics is the most different hehe).
Gears 5 has everything great from 4 and excels on the formula of the previous games, while also building up on the lore presented in Gears 2 and alluded to in Gears 3, Gears of War as a whole is the reason 5 is so good, but it's also a great upgrade in many levels, visually one of the most realistic so far, the reflections on the armors, the blood stains on your character after a fight, the environmental lighting is on point. Just wonderful, and the mechanics on the gameplay were also improved, having stealth by itself is great, though the AI must be improved for that, as there were times in which I played single player and Del would just walk in front of a corrupted DB, much better with a real person, also the slight change on how powerful the OG Lancer is in this game is one of my favorite things, this iconic weapon deserved this power up it got, making headshots taking enemies down quickly, the chainsaw also having a slightly quicker reaction, the impact and damage of the gnasher is kept from Gears 4 and presents a greater threat for the player with the more powerful Grenadiers, the new base pistol is a good addition, though because of the lack of need of it in lower difficulties I didn't needed it, but on a higher difficulty? Boy I'm glad I had it.

Gears 5 DLC is as good as the original trilogy campaign
The original trilogy was absolutely amazing. When I saw Gears 1, I swear I got Unreal Tournament vibes, but like in a different way and the way they did cover system made so many companies copy it in future games. But when Gears 2 & 3 hit, it was a major emotional rollercoaster and really settled the lore of Sera and bumped up the scale of "humanity on the brink." Gears 2 and 3 really, really, REALLY are benchmarks in gaming history when it comes to game series / trilogies.
But when I got to Gears 4 & 5, all the charm and high stakes of the original trilogy was pretty much lost. I didn't enjoy them nearly as much and the enemies were "okay." I am just so glad that E-Day got announced and we're most likely going to go back to that original trilogy feel where so much is at stake and humanity is going to be getting slammed by the Locust horde. It's going to be a lot of death, loss, sadness, pain, and tales of revenge in E-Day.
Not even kidding. Took us like 3 or so years. But my friend and I played through all the games on insane.
We did the original Gears 1 long ago. Either when backwards compatability came out or even before. We then did Remastered. Was fun. But the cut content they added in killed that run for us. It's in like a movie theatre. We had to stop playing for like 3 or so months. It was just so unbalanced for insane coop. 1 person dies and you have to restart it.
Gears 2 was a lot more fun. But we stopped right around the area where your on the floating platforms where they transport prisoners. There's a scene with a checkpoint, where you immediately spawn in front of a dude on a turret. We also just kind of lost interest and waited a couple months. The mission where you control a tank is still something we laugh about today. Cause one person drives and the other shoots. You also get killed in a couple hits from even turrets. So we had to play a game of cat and mouse and slowly poke out every time. Took forever.
Gears 3 we beat in record time. What with Active reload. The only difficult part was the final boss where they obviously didn't test it for insane.
We got all ready to go and play Judgment. But my friend for some reason his save data didn't transfer all the way. Cause it retained his level. But said he never completed the main campaign and couldn't play on insane. An obnoxious old game practice I am glad is done with mostly.
Then we went on to 4, and that's where everything went down hill. There's a ton of weird stuff with it. Like the respawn system. Unlike in the OG Gears. Your partner dies and it's checkpoint restart. A stupidly obnoxious feature. Then the story was nonsensical as well. There was some weird plotline of Kate or whatever her name hating the idea of pregnancy. Which carried onto 5. The story was so sloppy and awful in comparison to the weakest of the OG Gears game. Definately felt like they didn't have a story to tell and a reason to bring back old characters, but more so it felt like Microsoft wanted a new Gears game and by golly are they gonna get it. My friend and I ended up just having to use cheats after a certain point. Infinite health. Was not fun at all.
Gears 5 is one of the biggest piles of poo I've seen. The story is x50 worse. Now we have characters pregnant for some reason. I thought they were gonna go down the route of allowing us to choose between having Kate go down the evil route and become the Queen or do the good route. Was kind of getting excited. But then they ruined it. The only likable character is barely in the game. A more open world Gears game isn't a bad idea. But awfully executed. None of the charm of open world games was brought over. They continued the awful respawn system. The trailers leading up to the game were so bad that I actually didn't think it was an official trailer and thought it was fan made. Had Billy Elish in it I think? Came across as an edgy teenagers angst video. Them removing the name "Gears of War" with "Gears" was a red sign for me.
It actually felt like the studio has disdain for the fans. Like they're upset they're being made to make this game. I also don't know a single person that was mildly interested in Gears 5. It was announced the reaction I saw was more "oh yeah... more gears" Gears 5 actually seemed like some teenagers Wattpad story. Fanfiction at best and their own work at worse. Because they honestly seem like they want to make a different game. But are stuck with Gears.
We quit playing the game. Got so awful and boring. Story was too frustrating to continue playing.
I truly felt like the best bet would've been to do gigantic remakes of the OG trilogy. Like maybe add on to the already existing stuff, while heavily improving the graphics and combat. Maybe adding in new weapons, missions, collectables, enemies or wacky modifiers to the game you can do. I could've seen them releasing the OG trilogy individually and being a great success. Maybe allow for hype to get built up and maybe allow the new studio to get passionate about the game series.
My friend and I just started a day ago playing through Judgment, and are gonna replay again on insane afterwards and get that achievement.

I know some people (minority) can handle Part 2's story, and others dislike the story and characters, but enjoy the simple fighting/shooting mechanics with good animations, and looting for 40% of the gameplay, but that's not me.
I understand Uncharted 3 wasn't as good as Uncharted 2, but that doesn't mean I think that game is "trash". Gears 5 is a good game, so imagine how much it surprises me to see people calling it "trash".

Gears 1/UE: Both amazing gameplay dark theme to the world of sera got us all hooked multiplayer pretty good.
Gears 2: Made to give us a sense of love and hate for some characters also got us hooked in the campaign, better multiplayer.
Gears 3: An epic and sad end to a beloved franchise.

I will never forget the horror of the factory and the pure craziness of killing that giant ass worm. Not to mention the crazy speech from come train in the locust hive. Gears 2 had to be the most fun and game changing in the series, gears 1 and 3 were definitely a close second. I like gears 5 a lot everything from campaign, multiplayer and horde.
Seriously an underrated game. Gets so much hate for basically no reason. Campaign is fun as hell too.

I loved gears 4 but can't play 5.
Gears 4 wasn’t terrible. Mechanically the MP was decent. The repetitive map drops, colorful characters and lack of footstep audio really hurt.
Gears of war 2 had the most competitive players of all in gears of war
I agree with all of them but gear 4 multiplayer was the best

Judgment was good nut the controlls were so janky but come on we can admit the markza and breechshot where so good

Well this is pretty accurate, every gears of war game after 3 became the same game made over and over.
Gears 4 and 5 were good asf if you didn’t like them then your not a real fan
That’s not a good argument to why gears 4 and 5 are “good games”. Plus you know that it can be turned back against you, right?
