    wow, you seem well humored.
it's very nice to see a video of you. I wasn't able to tell anything about your temperament from text alone.
    I thought you were cold.
I really appreciate your insightful writings. thank you.

I have visited your website. It is very helpful to make key mapping easier. Really appreciate the work you did. Thanks for organizing such useful information. I am also little disappointed that not all thumb keys are comfortable to use.

Do you hover your hands when you type?? or do you rest them? I'm a new programmer and I'm already getting pain in my writst and hand. I tried a 150 dollar mechanical keyboard wiht a wrist rest... it's better than my older keyboard but still getting pain....sucks. I really like programming actually hah.

from about 1991 to about 2010, i do not hover. Now i do whenever i start to type fast for a paragraph long typing such as when writing blogs. at first, hover seems unnatural. but i got used to it, and is in fact better for hand health. Or, use a like 5 cm high books or bath tower as your wrist pad. The point is that your wrist and arm should be straight.

How good do you think this keyboard works if you got small hands?. Some of the thumbs and top keys looks a little hard to reach.

How does it compare to the old version? Is there any reason to upgrade?

    • @XahLee

      • Advantage2 has mechanical keys for the function buttons at top row. Cherry ML mechanical switch, with plastic key caps. Original Advantage had rubber buttons.
      • Advantage2 has a new engine SmartSet for programing the keys.
      • Advantage2 has 2 megabytes of memory. Original Advantage has 4k.
      • Advantage2, key macros and layouts are stored as text files in the embeded flash drive. You can open and edit and load the text file, or share it with friends. No special driver software needed.
      more details at xahlee.info/kbd/keyboard_Kinesis.html
      and manual xahlee.info/kbd/kinesis_keyboard_howto.html
whether to upgrade depends on you i think.

Should I buy an ergonomic keyboard? If so, which one? Is the learning curve worth it? I'm not a programmer, but I think I touch type, at least on alphanumeric keys I don't have to look down on the keyboard. I currently get 65 -70 wpm at 97 to 100% accuracy, but I can get up to 85 wpm but my accuracy drops to about 90 percent. I'm a finance major, so I'm pretty sure I need a number pad, and I use MS Excel a lot. Right now I'm using a Corsair k70 with cherry MX blue switches. Also, I don't think I have any RSIs. All that being said would you recommend I get an ergonomic keyboard or just get a standard one. If ergonomic which one? Thank you.

i think you are doing fine with corsair mech. Ergo would be a enjoyable luxury i think and pave comfort down the road. it won't increase you speed. if i can suggest one, get any of

@@XahLee Thanks for the recommendations. I'm probably gonna stick with my Corsair for this semester and probably get a keyboard afterwards as this is my last one. Out of the keyboards you recommended the X bows looks to have the best build quality. Have you had a chance to try the updated version, knight plus? Also would you say ortholinear keyboards are a better option, and are they okay to game on? Gaming probably takes up 10 to 15 percent of my time spent on the computer.

Feels good when use Ctrl(CapsLock postion) + X combination key strokes in Emacs???

    • @XahLee
      @XahLee  Před 6 lety +4

hi Frank! I actually use this keyboard with xah fly keys, meaning, i almost never press Control or meta. But, if i imagine using this with emacs default keybinding, you'd want to move whole hand when doing control combo (if you have asian sized hand as me), and use the other hand to press the key. Of course, one can still remap casplock, but not recommend. One could also put Control to those arrow keys position.
