Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I spend a lot of time writing software so I grabbed one of these. While it has taken me a bit to get used to it my wrist pain is more or less gone and my bad typing habits are being corrected at an alarming rate because damn does this thing let you know when you type incorrectly. Also nobody is willing to touch my computer anymore :)
Lolz. That last sentence. Its not that they don't want to touch your keyboard, its just their afraid... Imagine if you also have one of those vertical mice to go with it... You'd leave many stumped and frustrated if they tried.
This is one of those videos that we will be talking about being a fan from this date when this gets bigger.

It looks like an amazing keyboard but I see so much potential for the middle section, maybe there could be modular attachments like a small display that you can use as a second monitor or just display some stats of your computer, heck even a macro buttons attachment!
No chance I could use this but very interesting product. I am just glad to see Qain in another video again.

Awesome video, great to see you back Qain. I didn't expect a video this soon, I'm impressed. I just switched to Dvorak this summer after seeing the shirt you were wearing now on The Tek. I was getting a lot of wrist pain and Dvorak really helped even on my old membrane keyboard I pulled out of a bin.
Hooray Qain and Wendell doing their own channels I think is a wonderful idea. Getting rid of some of the noise (logan, but i love him for different reasons) for more learning is what I'm all about. Keep it up man.
It will be a while before Wendell is up and running. You may actually be seeing more of his vids on Tek Syndicate for a bit.
Yeah I recall seeing that somewhere. Even if Wendell just takes tek syndicate hardware that would be awesome.
Changing the function keys to mechanical ones is something I was hoping for. The rubber ones felt so flimsy I was afraid they would break. So much so, I decided to remap and switch around the esc and caps lock keys.

My boss has an ancient version of this keyboard and I couldn't stand it. I mean, don't get me wrong it's a fantastic keyboard, well built and sturdy. But since I use a standard layout keyboard, any time I had to hop onto his system to update something or reconfigure something it felt like I was just learning to hunt and peck at a keyboard again.

Deus, is there any noticeable difference in typing noise between the Advantage1 vs Advantage2? I know they changed from membrane to mechanical. I'd be willing to sacrifice key feel for a quieter keyboard for my office. Since you've used both extensively, your opinion is greatly valued! Thanks for the great review.

Seems like a pretty snazzy keyboard, my fiance would probably love that damn thing! What are your thoughts on the Ergodox split keyboard, seems like it's in a similar vein to this one, only it's split and you have to assemble it yourself depending on how your order it. Eventually I'd like to order something like this for her since she really needs something like this to help with her RA.

I am tempted to get this keyboard. I have a Truly Ergonomic which I do like.. but then I ordered the Model 01 which is still being made but should be arriving soon. In the mean time, I bought the ErgoDox EZ. The ErgoDox most resembles the layout of this kenisis keyboard, and I love the return/space keys via my thumb, so I suspect I could pick up on the kinesis pretty quickly. I am however going to wait to see how the Model 01 performs before I buy another very expensive keyboard. The Model 01 looks so dang nice, and seems to have more capabilities than this or the ergodox.. with its rgb/led keys which are great for gaming, as well as setting up colors for key maps like for video editing, photoshop, etc. That it is also two pieces.. so I can take it with me more easily is very appealing. I think if Kinesis made this keyboard into two pieces, they would have a bigger winner. I hate having to type on a laptop when I go places.. being able to fit my keyboard and use it wherever is ideal.
Finally got my Model 01.. love it. very good split keyboard, highly programmable. Also looking at building an Iris split keyboard. Smaller version of an Ergodox.
My actual thought on the first one: Hey! It's the keyboard we were chatting about at LAN!
I would only buy this keyboard if it had cherry MX Clears. The fact that you will bottom out regardless of the tactile bump on the MX browns because of how light they are makes ergonomics slightly moot. With the added weight and more significant bump on Cherry MX Clear switches, it truly is an ergonomic keyswitch.
I know, and Clears weren't really around at that time either, but now that Clears have been in more demand as well as more readily available, a Clear version for the Kinesis Advantage would be more suitable so you wouldn't bottom out as you type creating less fatigue.

Are you sure about the MX reds? On their site they only list browns as an option.

We do offer Cherry MX Reds but only on the Advantage2 LF Model (KB600LF): www.kinesis-ergo.com/shop/advantage2-lf/.The LF model also has onboard Dvorak (like all the KB600s) but if you want the dual-legended Qwerty-Dvorak keycaps you'll have to purchase those separately since they are only installed on the QD model which is only available with MX Browns: www.kinesis-ergo.com/shop/qwertydvorak-keycaps/. Hope that helps!

This is also my favorite keyboard, with Ergodox comes close second.
There's software for reprogramming the keyboard too that you can find on the B drive or website if not there on the drive.
No one will convince me that keyboard clicking isnt fucking annoying.
What do you do with mod keys? Are they in their original place in the thumb clusters so that you need to move the hands out of the halves to enter shortcuts?

Hey Qain, have you taken a look at the Ergodox? It's based slightly off the Advantage/Maltron but the PCB is flat and is smaller footprint. The 3D printed Dactyl is also based off the Advantage/Maltron and keeps the same curve but the overall case is much smaller.

wish i could use such a keyboard but can't as i am only able to use 15 keys around "w" key. it's cool that you can open firmware and profiles why can't other keyboards do this it's amazing!
It is so cool like your shades, I want to order 1 right now. Wonder what is up for version 3. Advantage 3.0 can it include RGB lighting so I could type well in night?

I was wondering what keyboard you were using on the Lan Syndicate. The only problem I see is the price tag. Yes, I know, ergo keyboard and all the benefits but +200$...buff, that's a big hit
I bought the original version last year, but had to return it because the software wasn't compatible with my work computer, even after attempting to resolve it with their workaround suggestion.
Any idea if they tackled that Windows software issue?
