  • ThermoTec 9kw Inverter - Heat Pump Installation *Koi Pond*
    Today's video see's finally the installation of the ThermoTec 9kw Inverter heat pump onto my Koi Pond. It has been a long time coming and a lot of work has gone into the preparation for this to be possible.
    I hope you all enjoy the video and hopefully it will help somebody else out there if they are thinking of buying the same unit.

    This is a good example as to why you should always get an electrician to do your installations. There are number of non compliances, and no tests where carried out to make sure the installation was safe to energise. Apart from that this was a very helpful video.

      Hi Andy, my friend that wired the shed up initially to the main consumer unit is a commercial electrician day to day. I can assure you tests have been carried out for safety.
      If you would like to advise on what you think isn't safe I can get it looked at no problem 👍

      @@UpNorthKoiPond I don’t want to snag your work, I’ve seen a lot worse lol. But you should have a local isolator, I know you are close to your shed. The grommet is missing in the consumer unit, although I would recommend using stuffing glands. My main concern was that you appeared to energised the unit without ( as far as we could see in the video) carrying out full electrical safety tests on the new external circuit you installed. The installation should also comply with Part P of the building regulations. This means it is a notifiable installation with building control. See Part 2.2 a of the Part P regulations (Also mentions pond pumps). Part P is downloadable. I know this all seems petty. But if you made an error that caused a death or injury ( more likely because it outside) I know you’d be gutted. I also know that there are millions of sockets, garden lights and pond pumps that are thrown in by DIYers and (Electricians )in gardens all over the county that aren’t killing anyone and are not being notified to building control. I am just saying what people should be doing, most DIYers are not aware of that. The installation to your shed may also be a Part P installation, but I’m sure your mate gave you the installation certificate and registered it. 😉. Phew! Wish I’d never said anything now. 🙈

      @Andy - WWNC haha, fair play. He has actually certificated the installation of his work (connecting the SWA to the main consumer unit in the house and the installation of the sub unit into the shed). As for the rest of it, that's on my own back done under electrical competence shall we say. All earth's are good, loads fused accordingly and cable sized accordingly. As for the rubber grommet, I'll take that on the chin, I couldn't find where I'd put them at the time of connection. 😁
      If you are a sparky, I get why seeing DIY installations would make you cringe, if I saw some of your plumbing work I'd probably be the same😉🫡👍 take care, have a good Christmas 🎄

    Nice one buddy👌😊 really pleased you got it in, it is a game changer😊. I only ever use 725 wet n dry but don't feel bad as I can never get the tops off (grip wrench of putting the lid in a vice is how I open it)😁. Did you see Question Time Live #6 with Ricky Stoddart from Koi Wholesale on Thursday night on CZcams? I asked a question about the best way of heating the pond over winter and was really surprised by the answer, I'm seriously re-thinking how I use my Thermotec heater moving forward🤔. Didn't understand what you meant by the water temp having to be 8 degrees before the heater kicks in??? mine was about 3 degrees and started to heat no issue👍. You may already know this but the factory settings are 1 degree above and below the temprature you set for the the water, if you go in the settings and change R4 and R12 to 0.3 you will only get a 0.6 degree variance which keeps the temp much more stable (just my opinion and how I have set up my pond). Have fun playing with it👍😁

    • @UpNorthKoiPond
      @UpNorthKoiPond  Před 2 lety +1

      If you go on the heatpumps4pools website, on the thermotec heaters and scroll down to section 3b, in that paragraph, it says the heater requires a minimum water temp of +8c to start working. I was as baffled by this as you because it started right away when I turned it on which of course I wasn't expecting it to because of the information I had read on the ASHP. I will definitely check out that question time👍

      @@UpNorthKoiPond you’re absolutely right, I’ve just taken a look at their website and it says exactly what you said??? No idea why as both our heaters fired up and worked below that temperature. Don’t suppose it matters now but still strange🤔. Hi fantastic video 👍 Just in the process of installing the same make heat pump and I’m after some info. Where you fitted the wires to the unit the cover has two inlet points. At the side of the live neutral and earth there is another connection point it says pump? Do you connect you pump to them or do you connect you pump on a separate feed?

    We have a different make, and so have some of our friends. However, does your WiFi connector only have to be outside the unit for the initial connection and then is located back inside the unit with the magnet? I didn't think it was weatherproof. I haven't seen a WiFi unit on the outside of anyone else's unit on many videos I've watched. Just thought I'd mention for you to double check! 😃

    For those with the Thermotec AHP, If you want to change your minimum temperature eg, for a koi pond. Go into settings. Enter 66, find R10 on system parameters and enter your new lowest temperature. NOTE: It is not recommended to go below 10 degs C. Note. You can also alter the Hysteresis settings. This is the value the heat pump will run over or under minimum and maximum settings. Eg you set the water temperature to 15 degs but it runs at 16.5. You can set it to run at dead on 15 degs, but that’s not recommended. They recommend no more than 0.5 Deg C either way as the unit uses more power and the compressor is working harder. Also using the Auto setting is not recommended in the UK for Koi ponds at least.
