is this safe to check the voltage of mains coming into the main box of a house and or the same coming from the power company to a meter on a house?

It can measure AC voltage up-to 600V safely. Hope this helps.

If I want a cheap meter that's going to be wrong, I'll use a red $5 meter from Harbor Freight & save $35
