  • In this video, I explore what is a Foil Drive Powered Shore Runner, when I use it, and the advantages and disadvantages over classic downwinding with a Foil Drive.

I assume you need to get on a wave or a swell to get up on that 30 liters board?
What is the minimum board volume you need to get up on the board without using a wave or a swell?
    Thanks

If you look in my shorts videos, you will find a clip of me getting the 30L up in the flat with a large foil. Foil size and board shape are more key than volume. The 30L will come up quickly in the flat with a 1401 foil. That said, in order to use the 30L in the waves, I usually need a push from the wave or I must paddle. My 44L is very flat, not too wide, and has very little nose rocker. I have used that board to get my smallest foil, a 1001, up in the flats. On my downwind board, I can get the 1001 up in the flats while standing up to start. It is all about trade offs. Go smaller on the board, up size the foil.....one thing is key, board shape. The Axis/Foil Drive Collaboration boards are a great example of shapes and volumes that are focused on getting the Foil Drive going quickly.
