    ZID is literally the crossroads center for west coast east coast and ATL ORD traffic, hence they are always busy. Love the sound of yr bird. Did you wipe the butter off that bottom of the Mooney from that landing? Lol. Nice vid.

    Depends on controller and where they are. Also, If I am traversing a local tracon area, but will be leaving their area in 5 minutes, I don't want to be bothered checking in to tracon only to be transferred to Center 5 minutes later so that I can be transferred back to Tracon 5 minutes later than that. Only other problem is with motormouth controllers that minimize transmission times and garble the message that they are attempting to issue (may be fine for locals used to the area and procedures --- not so good for transients)

      I agree there, I ran into that problem in St. Louis. I was told to report "abeam the arch", or course it makes sense now...but I had no clue what I was being told initially.

    She is sassy but I guess she was busy and they guy was busy not listening. By the way how is the dynon working out? I just bought a used one on eBay and sold my stratux. I also have a sentry but the dynon size is the key. I like that suction cup mount. I have not seen one out there for dynon.

    • @MyTimeToFly
      @MyTimeToFly  Před 2 lety

      The Dynon works good for me. I actually made the mount on a 3D printer. I’m mostly happy with it. Want one?

      Sure if you don’t mind. There is nothing out there. Let me know how much. If you are ever in south Florida let me know and we can go flying on my warrior. But my landings are not as smooth as yours. Thanks a lot.

    Only have my PPL but I love talking to ATC, it's great practice. I am pretty much always using flight following so I'm used to it

    Great experience with ATC having operated out of KMSY it can get very busy You did a very good job with it. When You get Your IR rating it will be another learning experience as clearance changes etc can be get crazy.

    Audible is great to keep the mind going when the worse case you can say about the flight is it was boring

    Enjoyed the video. Which autopilot do you have in your Mooney?

    • @MyTimeToFly
      @MyTimeToFly  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m glad you liked it. There is no functional autopilot in my Mooney, there is an old in-op unit. She just trims out really nice.

  • @1dullgeek
    @1dullgeek Před 2 lety +1

    I don't know how to react to the controller from Indy asking for that one guy to respond quicker.
    My first reaction is that pilot's priorities should be aviate, navigate, communicate - in that order.
    But on the other hand, I have no idea of the context. I don't know if he's been taking a long time to respond for 10 minutes or just the last 2 calls. And you showed us how busy that airspace was, so I imagine she's under a lot of stress trying to get everyone sequenced.
    Not having enough context means I should give everyone involved the benefit of the doubt, but as a pilot, and not a controller, I feel annoyed.

    • @MyTimeToFly
      @MyTimeToFly  Před 2 lety +1

      I do agree it was a bit uncalled for. I also don’t know if there was more context from prior to me coming on freq. but a little grace is always in order.

    • @happycanayjian1582
      @happycanayjian1582 Před 2 lety +1

      Nope, I’ve often had pilots (non-instructional, commercial traffic) take an inordinate amount of time to respond to each clearance when you, as a controller, are knee deep in airplanes. Now, should this aircraft be at 20000’ and 45 miles from the airport, I wouldn’t care as much, but when they’re being vectored on base and final to parallel approaches surrounded by multiple other aircraft, then it’s incumbent upon them to be on the ball. A readback and/or compliance with an instruction that is perpetually 10 secs late can have a serious impact on spacing requirements between aircraft.

    • @1dullgeek
      @1dullgeek Před 2 lety

      @@happycanayjian1582 as a pilot, I'm taught that flying the airplane takes priority over communication with atc. Do controllers know that? Do they prioritize communication higher than flying the airplane? Do they expect pilots to have that same priority?

    • @happycanayjian1582
      @happycanayjian1582 Před 2 lety

      @@1dullgeek Not sure how to respond to that since it appears you didn’t read what it is I wrote. And unless you’re specifically referring to an aircraft in distress/emergency (which isn’t the case here, nor what I was alluding to) then you’re categorically being misled by whoever is responsible for doling out your pilot’s license.

    • @1dullgeek
      @1dullgeek Před 2 lety

      @@happycanayjian1582 What I'm asking is if ATC has an expectation that communication with ATC takes priority over aviation and navigation.

    One question: How long did it take you to get to Florida? We have family in Clearwater. Just curious how long it really took you with the Mooney. I believe Foreflight tells me 7 hours from 1C5 in a 172.

    • @MyTimeToFly
      @MyTimeToFly  Před 2 lety +1

      My trip was broken up into a couple of segments mostly because of a pre planned stop. But with no wind it would be about 7 hours to southern Florida where I was headed.
