- How I deal with criticism online, why I don't try to be unique and how I deal with comparison - all these thoughts came over a chocolate chip baking session. :)
My January has been slow, thoughtful and full of reflections. I've been dealing with a lot of personal anxieties, searching for resolutions and learning to be patient with myself and my life.
I wanted to share a few thoughts that came to me recently. Does any of this resonate with you?

Maple tahini chocolate chip cookies (yields 11 cookies):
190g plain flour
90g softened butter
50g white tahini paste
60 g maple syrup
60g light brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp baking soda
Walnuts
Chocolate
Mix together butter with sugar, then add tahini, maple syrup and egg and whisk well. Add flour and baking soda, mix. Chop 75g of dark chocolate and a handful of walnuts (you can also use chocolate chips, but I like large chocolate chunks more). Add to the dough. Let the cookie dough rest in the fridge for 15 minutes before baking.
Shape your cookies, place them well apart on a lined baking tray and bake for 11 minutes at 200C/ 390F. Let them cool down on the baking sheet for 5 minutes then transfer to the cooling rack. Give them another 15 minutes to set and then enjoy warm or cold :)

NO my dear. NEVER care about criticism, because your channel may just resemble other content, but we choose YOU for your Unique beautiful way. As I said before, if I pause a video of yours at any point I get a painting-like shot. Not to mention your soothing and wise words, which are medicine to a stressed mind. You are amazing. You are poetry to us.
That phrase at the end really hit, "no many how many times it's been done before, it hasn't been done by you, and that's reason enough to do it". That's absolutely spot on and I wish I heard (and understood) this way before in my life. Anyone struggling with perfectionism needs this drilled into them I believe 😆 Absolutely lovely and stunning video and even more amazing thoughts and words! Keep creating and making things you want to! ❤

I think there’s a kind of beauty in the idea that no part of me is really properly unique that I’m made up of lots of different parts of the people and ideas that surround me. My love of baking from my grandma, cycling from my grandad, reading from my aunt and the items I own, my purse from a friend who drifted apart, my favourite jumper from my granny, my desk from an aunt who was moving and a rocking chair from my great grandma that was refurbished by my dad. All these little things make up me as a whole and personally that brings me a lot of comfort as do your videos
These are all such beautiful parts of you. 🥰 I love this idea. We are made of memories and lives of other people who came before us. It’s truly beautiful 🕊

I know this was posted 9 months ago, but I recently discovered your channel so I am catching up. That said, wow, I love how you took that criticism of a viewer and turned it in to a personal inquiry! Brava you! And I have had the same thoughts over the years: it’s already done, why would I now do it? As an artist this was an exceptionally hard truth to finally see as gatekeeper; keeping me from just being myself even if others assume I am just mimicking others so what I do is not worthy of notice. And yes to: doing what you love no matter what others may judge as not worthy or unique. Yes to finding kindred spirits! That’s why I am here at your channel enjoying your thoughts and experiences. You're wrong. Not everyone feels love. They just feel lonely.💜 Keep making vlogs of what you enjoy. Those people are unhappy and have a lot of other problems.
You're fine. You have a good head on your shoulders. I was attracted to your channel for the watercolour art video and stayed for your youthful philosophy of and for, living. You will find opposition even in your own camp. You have the privilege of ignoring it because you only have yourself to answer to. And learn, in the process, greater gratitude and that our freedom comes from above. Think about this: I believe being unique means loneliness, because there is little connection to have with others. They would either be above or below your standard and that would make them incompatible acquaintances. Embrace your humanity, something we all share. No matter who we are or where we're from, when we are cut, we bleed. None of us levitate to put our pants on. That makes us family.
How interesting for me to hear about your longing for uniqueness. I am the opposite in that for years I have longed to find people that are like me and that love the same things as I do! I have felt odd in my aesthetics for instance. I absolutely adore historic buildings and architecture while most people I know don't care about it. Such a beautiful video about such an important topic. No matter if we want to blend in and be like the rest or want to stand out and be completely unique - both leads to us simply not doing what we love anymore as we constantly believe we have to adhere to someone else's standards. And while it's true that we constantly crave the new and the unique, at the same time we always long for others to be relatable as well. We watch content creators because we can relate to what they say and show, we listen to music because we can relate to how the singer is describing her last breakup in the lyrics. Realizing there is no need to be unique to be a wonderful and relatable person, content creator, artist, scientist etc. takes so much pressure off our shoulders and allows us to simply be ourselves. The goal is self improvement, not besting the others. 😊 That comment probably stemmed from someone discovering your channel and thinking they were not being as unique (themselves) as they thought. I know this may seem to contradict the point of this video, but I actually find your videos incredibly unique and inspiring even compared to other content similar to this that I love on CZcams, such as by creators like TheCottageFairy and Fairyland Cottage. Of course there are similarities, but you have a great eye for beauty in your shots, which is different than the perspectives we see on these other channels, and of course each creator lives in a different part of the world with different environments that are all so lovely in different ways.
I think people love this type of content because it feels similar to our daily lives and experiences, or what we hope they could be in a time of peacefulness, yet has that own unique touch of each particular CZcamsr.
Of course no one is fully unique, and I agree it's liberating to accept that, since we all have so many similarities across cultures and continents. Still, your content is special. Thanks for sharing it with us. For what you do - no one can do it better than you. ❤️
I had to stop the video because you are very unique no one talks like you films the same exact things you. Every one is unique in the sight of God and that is all that matters. Now I'm in the phase where I want to do something but discover again and again that somebody has done it better or almost exactly how I pictured it. And again I wait for another brilliant idea and do nothing, being afraid that some unknown person calls me "a copy"... Your video was definitely a sign that I should stop that and let myself just be and do what inspires me!
Yes, sometimes people do unique things, but that doesn't last long enough, because others start making something similar.
We're not that original as we want to think of ourselves and it's indeed so liberating to admit it!

What should I do to be unique? Maybe fly into space and make videos from there, floating among stars...orbiting the Earth...😆 Well, but the critics would again say it's not unique, they'd say there's this movie, "Gravity", where Sandra Bullock does just the same...😁.
P.S. If someone openly criticizes another's creative work they must've never created something for the public eye or they desperately want to be unique, do nothing/wait for ideas and get angry that someone dared to do something "not so original", because they can't let themselves "be a copy". OR...they do create stuff but can't stand the fact that thousands of people are creative too. Sorry for this long message :)

Very calming video - I always struggle through January and tend to hibernate during the cold days. My mood picks up on Groundhog day when we watch the same-titled film (every year since 1999) hoping for an early spring.

What you do say is completely right, it is almost impossible to be unique nowadays, simply by the fact that we are so many in this world. The best is indeed to embrace the fact that we can find others with similar tastes, which can only be beneficial as we can enjoy our beloved hobbies and jobs together.
This is so beautiful and truthful as well. It has inspired to go on and start the channel I always wanted but feared it would just be nothing special or new. The last quote was so incredibly beautiful. It hasn't been done by you. And that is better to be a copy and do what you live and create rather than staying still and do nothing as I've done for 6 years now. Truly beautiful, do not care for mean comments really.... Your videos migkt be similar in the purpose to the one of other people, but for me they're always different because you put your own stories and reflections in it. And those are only yours! I absolute;y love your video content creations!!! I so appreciate your encouragement to others, to stop obsessing over 'uniqueness' and simply just do and be, as they are. And not to allow the paralysis of analysis, or desire for some perceived perfection, to rob them of the joy of even trying!! I must say that I think that you are unique;.. as is everyone else on earth, if they will but be themselves!! For though we all have similarities in certain ways; we all bring a unique perspective to this life as well. No one sees the world quite the same way, because no one has had the same unique life experiences. Meaning; those unique combinations of living, which have brought each individual soul to their own unique state of being.. It has been said that we all live in a different world, due to these distinctions in the living of our lives. A lot of us deal with trying to be good enough.God made us all in his image so how can we be anything but amazing?!? I love your videos.
