I was actually fortunate during that year. I wasn't really following movie news the way I do now. So I only saw one trailer and only saw one poster (which was not of the Bat-Pod).
I guess even today, if you truly wants to be surprised, just don't follow movie news, skip trailers and don't look at any marketing material haha. For me, it's like this. I already want to watch the movie. I don't need studios to market it for me.

Johnny F. At the time when this movie released in theaters ( speaking from my experience in Los Angeles ) this was the movie to re-watch two to three times. I was invited to watch by one of my boys at that time.
The economy had gone down the drain, people were losing their homes, and work force was scarce out here. This movie had a rebound effect in my opinion because it was good enough to serve as a distraction from that harsh reality. Everything inside the theater was hyped although I didn't really anticipate it because I wasnt really big into movie watching back then. It was mostly quiet with a few laughs from the Jokers sarcastic expressions but in awe because of how good it was. Every scene involving the Joker was quality and it lived up to it's hype. At the same time I remember hearing that Heath Ledger had passed. So thought of him making a comeback after that movie was a dud. Bitter sweet times I would say for many but this movie highlighted 2008.

The way Batman screams as he charges the Joker at the end. You can tell he was at war with himself. There was a part of him that so, so badly wanted to run the Joker down and put an end to his reign right then and there. But there's also his no killing moral code, which is what drove him to veer away at the last second. Amazing acting by Christian Bale.

The sound design in this movie is just incredible, expecially in this scene. Listen to it again and keep in mind that every sound in the background is created in a studio from scratch. Along with the undeniably amazing direction from Christopher Nolan (who always prefers practical effects, one of the many examples: the truck slowly falling backwards is real), the quick, smooth editing from Lee Smith, and the iconic score from Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard makes this a well deserved classic in the history of cinema. Not overrated in the slightest in my opinion. Christopher Nolan is my god, and I keep watching his movies over and over again and finding new details that are just so incredibly well perfected. Glad to have this guy in my lifetime.

I remember the first time I watched this. The audience was quiet when Batman looped around the truck but I heard some whispers. Right after the truck did a somersault, the BatPod looks as though it's going to collide with the wall but it simply rides a little away up and turns around. Classic Batman efficiency haha. And that's when the audience erupted in cheers. I don't normally sympathise with such behaviour but I couldn't deny it, this scene deserved such appreciation.

Came with no deep metaphorical meaning like how Dent died in this movie, just got killed off ex machina style which didn't do Tom Hardy's Bane justice.
