    Ok ladies, just to be clear; never do this to someones guitar without their permission. This technique will render the guitar as just an ornament, playing it at this point will ruin all the work on the fret board and really dull the sound of the guitar. You would have to approach this in a different manner if you still want the guitar to be useful, and you would not do anything to the fret board. If you still want the guitar playable watch this: Easy-to-make comic book guitar design: How-to Decoupage! Great video overall, Thank you.

      +Thomas Gosselin I was wondering why she was protecting the strings, since the guitar is basically useless for playing now, I guess she wants it to be ornamental.

    • @patioelf
      @patioelf  Před 8 lety

      +Curious Watcher Yes, strictly ornamental. :)

      @@pg.6065the shit still applies if you are male, female or non-binary. This video is for a guitar that will be a decor item ONLY, after finishing. If you want to use/play the guitar, they are several more videos online that apply to that scenario.

    I watched your video and i understand this is for decorative purposes only. Something like this can be done on an electric guitar body though...
    A few suggestions though :
    1) remove the strings, nuts, and tuning pegs
    2) maybe do something about those guitar frets ? because the way you do it, you are going to have a bunch of paint on the side of each fret. So maybe try to do a more delicate work, not painting the frets, then polishing them with a dremel tool ?
    3) you should definitely seal the fretboard wood : it's often porous, oily wood that won't let paint stick too well. So for that, i definitely suggest applying some pore filler before you paint on it.
    4) the guitar is finished in lacquer : you should definitely rough it up with some 1000-grit sandpaper, just so it's nice and smooth for the paint to adhere and look good.
    Have a nice day !

      k jobson Hi K! Thank you….I know what you mean. It's a good idea to practice first on something that's not that expensive or that you were going to toss anyway. There's another Facebook page called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage, that focuses primarily on decoupage. There are a lot of people from the UK on the page as well, and they're very helpful. Someone is always on the page and ready to help when someone has a question. I also have a Facebook page but I take a lot longer to respond. Once you start though you'll probably just keep on going. :)

    I love it such a cute idea for a decor piece I wish I could of got my hands on these guitars that this music store just threw away in the dumpster because they were slightly damaged because of the sprinkler system went off when there was a small fire.But sadly when I returned with something to take them with me the dumpster was gone.I could of made a bunch of those and kept a few and still have some to give away to friends there was at least 10 or possibly 15 in there that would of been so fun to have that many to work with.

    I want to thank you so much for this video, you inspired me so much!!! I lost my 17 year old son, almost 18 years ago, shortly before he died, my parents gave him a bass guitar, he didn't have it long and was trying to learn to play. I have had it in a closet all these years, it was broken by movers, and I never had it fixed, anyway after watching your video, I dug it out, started painting and gluing!!! It looks fantastic (not as good as your amazing work) but I am very happy with how it turned out. A friend of mine wrote a song about my son called Brandon My Love, so I placed the name of the song on the front of the bass and the words of the song on the back, and it is covered in red poppies!. Thank you so much for the inspiration!!!!!!

I'll bet you felt his presence around you as you worked on this. Hugs! Your work is beautiful, made from the heart.

    This was great! I have a child's guitar sitting in my closet and it is perfect for a project like this. I was wondering if the guitar was still usable after this treatment? Maybe if I use a varnish on top, it would be more durable?

      Trouble O'Hara Hi Trouble,
      One of the viewers on this video asked me to please let people know that they can NOT still use the guitar after you paint it or decoupage it. I did not know that but I'm glad she let me know. Mine is strictly for decorative purposes so I hadn't thought too much about it.

  • @2vamp1
    @2vamp1 Před 8 lety +1

    Thank you, great video. Do you have to remove the wooden polish on the guitar with something first?! Or just add primary color? I am afraid the color might peel, or the image might peel if I apply it directly?

    • @patioelf
      @patioelf  Před 8 lety

      +2vamp1 You are welcome and thank you! I would remove any polish that's on it with a good degreaser before you work on it. Then paint and decoupage your images and add a top coat or varnish over it. What images are you afraid of peeling away? Are there already images on your guitar that you don't want to paint over? You can skip painting that part if you want. Was that what you were talking about?
      Patti

    • @2vamp1
      @2vamp1 Před 8 lety +1

  • @OfficialRedDirtNurse
    @OfficialRedDirtNurse Před 8 lety

    You can simply un-string the guitar prior to painting. Just push the strings through the holes in the bridge - then, when finished painting - push the strings through the holes and re-string.
    To maintain authenticity, you should wrap some masking tape (like a tag) around each string, denoting it's position. Number them as you like.
    The strings are ordered by thickness. Just search CZcams or Google for "guitar anatomy" or how to string an acoustic guitar.

    • @professortim7809
      @professortim7809 Před 7 lety

      I agree, this is a cool project, but I would also remove the strings first. They either push directly through the bridge of the guitar or sometimes have bridge pins.
      If they are strung through the bridge, you would remove the strings from the tuning keys and then just pull them out of the bridge and set aside. And of course, reverse the procedure to re-string. (the guitar in this video has strings that feed through the bridge).
      If you have bridge pins, you just loosen the strings and remove from the tuning keys, and then use pliers to pry the bridge pins out and the strings will come right out of the hole. Then of course, reverse the process to re-string.
      One other thing, I would also have removed the tuning keys. It would look much nicer when finished. It is pretty easy, usually just a couple of screws on the back and a nut on the front depending on what kind of keys they are.

    Hi Patti, I just love this video, I live in the UK and have just purchased an old guitar for £2.00 sterling so I want to decoupage it following your video.
    I have got as far as the top coat of paint, and I have a 'script' stamp but I don't know what 'Stays On' is exactly, I can't find it in the uk ... so any ideas .. I think the script will run if I don't use something to stop it!

      Heather Thomas Hi Heather! Thank you…..There's a page on Facebook called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage. If you friend that page a lot of the people on it are from the UK and Oh so helpful! They can tell you what to use instead of the Stays On. It's really a stamp pad that uses a waterproof ink-if that helps. I thought all stamp pads were waterproof since they are ink! But I found out the hard way that isn't true. The inks get wet and smear and run, that's no fun. :) If you friend them on Facebook please let them know that Patti from youtube sent you, they'll welcome you right in. ( they were getting too much spam and had to close the group) It's a fun page too where people share their work and get and give inspiration. If you're not on Facebook please let me know and I'll ask them what you can use instead of the Stayz On. :)
