You know they did something amazing when the biggest drama around this game is other game devs saying "it's too good to be the standard."
This game is so Good; I makes AAA devs insecure. "Don't expect that level of quality from me." Literally said XD
They act like a 5 year development cycle is impossible, but look at Cyberpunk. It was like 3 1/2 years in full development, but it took 2 more after launch to make it good. Now, if they do attract new players, they're selling it at a discount. Larian was clever to make EA about community feedback and tweaks. Fans were included in the development, and I think that is going to resonate well with everyone on the final product. The problem is AAA studios with tight deadlines, to ensure maximum returns for investors. Those studios have ripped the heart out of the gaming industry.
@@ericede If Cyberpunk did an EA like Larian, maybe a lot of the initial jank could have been avoided. By time I played it, all but 1.7 was in (I believe) so it was an enjoyable gam. Now the xpac I hear will give a soft reboot of the whole game. That's good. Still no BG3, though.
If you have even the faintest interest in RPGs, you should try this game. It is an experience on a scale that virtually no other developer can match. And don’t worry about “messing up” your character, they didn’t have some of the more forgiving options in early access, but there will be a story mode difficulty, respecs for your class and your ability scores, and they removed race specific attribute bonuses to now being a flat bonus separate of race so that you can play whatever you want and still be strong. There will be no other game like this on this kind of scale for a long time, definitely look into it if you are an RPG fan of any kind.
I hate turn based combat, so that's the only reason I will never touch this game (or other similar RPGs that were previously released with that style of combat).
@_Diktator that's just a lack of patience though. Turn based games teach you to think more strategically about your encounters and you have to be careful how you use your resources

lol same I played +10 hours and had to stop because i know i'll have to play again so I don't want to spoil too much. My favorite part is how every level up branches out your character, even something like a Ranger starts as a super basic bowman but becomes a hunter marking his prey and dealing massive damage with various cool perks or a beast tamer with huge companion pets that change the combat in different ways. I think I might end up even prefering a less magic party without Sorc or Wizard in this game, cuz magic seems overwhelming as hell.
I played it on release and restarted it a few days ago. My resolution of only wanting to try out the bard class while keeping exploration for the full release faltered quickly. Time flew by and I played for many hours each night, until everything was fully explored. Hype has completely gripped me again. I can't wait to get access to the full game. It's gonna be great.
As soon as a release date was set, it was like a switch flipped and my patience flew out the window and now I can't stand the wait. Luckily we're getting a month earlier than initially announced.
Should you buy the next GOTY ?

Maybe, but this looks like a packed year with Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, Spider-Man 2. Which all could also get GOTY.
@@Ahglock Other games may come out, but they won't be to the same standard as BG3. That's fine for many games, but any game calling itself an RPG won't compete.
You can respec your character and also companions at any time. The only thing you can't respec is your race. BG3 also has a character generation version where you get +2 to one stat of your choice and +1 to another stat regardless of race.
So if you e. g. selected elf as a race you can put +2 to strength and +1 to constitution and make a fighter. You're not stuck with +2 dexterity and +1 intelligence that wouldn't suit a fighter.
So the final version is very forgiving for a player new to DnD 5e. You should never have to restart the game if you made a bad build. Just pick a race and class you like and these will work. If you e. g. find an item boosting an ability to 18 you can respec on the fly and dump the ability so you can distribute the build points differently.
And I think origin characters always have at least 1 lvl in a certain class for story reasons(I mean, one character story about a pact with a devil would make no sense without having a lvl of warlock class). Other than that you can multiclass them freely.
@@chillax319 This is what we don't know yet. We will learn after August 3rd. Larian Studios haven't told us about any respec restrictions except not being able to change race.
I agree it doesn't make sense removing the warlock out of Wyll. Karlach has barbarian rage so it won't fit her story making her e. g. a sorceress.
@@borgerborgersen372 I think they said it on the panel from hell that, the companions classes are tied to their stories so you wont be able to change that here.
Thankfully Racial bonuses are not race locked anymore so you can created a Gnome barbarian with max strength if you want too
I bought it the moment they selling it for early access. It is my first and probably last game to buy as early access. Best decision of my life, best RPG for a very long time, best D&D game of last 2 decades. Most AAA companies spend more time, got more money with more people to work with and still manage to release unfinished, bug heaven, money trap dull games. Even in early period of early access BG3 was performing better than most games that released years ago and still cannot manage to fix bugs that people hyped for. That's why all dev's from big companies went into cry baby mode. BG3 not just a game changer for genre but also for game development.

06:10 Not an issue anymore. As is with the table top rpg, race stat bonues no longer exist. You can put the bonus wherever you want: dumb elf, smart orc or barbarian gnome? All doable!

Bought this years ago on early release and been very much enjoying watching it develop more, gain more classes and races etc. This is a FANTASTIC game, especially for old folks like me that cut my teeth on the previous games and the original Neverwinter and Neverwinter 2
I've gotta say, this comment made me really excited. Loved Neverwinter Nights 2 (never played the first). Just hope it's true to the franchise and actually FEEL like a Baldur's Gate game. My fear is that it'll feel like a reskinned Divinity OS 2. But honestly, if I got the choice to make any developer make a sequel to the BG franchise, I'd choose either Laran Studios or CD Projekt Red.
To the point of „wrong“ race (even beside the updated stat rules and respeccing): outside of tactician difficulty this does not matter. First of all it’s 1 character out of 4. and second of all it should be a choice of what you WANT to be, not what is optimal. In your first playtrough there will be so many moving factors that optimizing should be the least of your worries. Just be who you want to be, play how you want to play. This is not D4 or a MMO, you are not compared to other people.
Been playing early access and the dialogue alone is insanely impressive but once I got the hang of combat I loved it and I’m hooked
+2 +1 to any stat, agnostic of race choice confirmed. You can also change your base class later. Race, however, is not going to be changable in game without restarting.
An update. Bonus stats are now tied to class. Not race. You can’t gimp yourself with race selection when the game is released.
No, they are still part of your race. But you can choose to use the standard 5e rules or the BG3 homebrew.

Other game devs are already taking to Twitter, out of fear, that BG3 will change everyone's expectations. The scope is unprecedented. I put over 300 hours into early access, and if the final game never released, just the early access version would have been worth the $60.

they actually changed the racial bonus to a +2 +1 system where you can choose any attributes to have bonuses too
Bought it 2 years ago. Reason= Larian + my favorite lore setting Forgotten Realms.
The only thing Im concern about is whether or not the hirelings are customizable. As with most RPG's, I know I'll only be able to tolerate 1 or 2 of the companions, so I really want to be able to make custom hirelings to take with me. Also, they said the hirelings will only be with you "temporarily". What does that actually mean? They've been really good with being transparent with some things but terrible at clarifying others.
Turn based combat just killed it for me.

Theres so much restrictions, from time to how to chose your character, feels not friendly at all to new players, and a big no no for full time job people and casual players, thank you for been truthful and saving us from wasting our time and money in a game that we most surely will not enjoy ❤

Been curious about the split screen situation, if we play on PS5, does only one have to buy the game as it is with Diablo 4, or do need both a copy?
they said in the final Panel from Hell that it's going to have split screen. (max 2 players per console) so if it's a group of 4 people, you'd need 2 copies and 2 consoles total

Dont worry about the racial min/max aspect. In a real rpg such as this, your characters flaws can sometimes be way more interesting than its strengths.

I bet this will be covered or was already but races no longer have stats. It is either everyone gets a +2 and +1 to their choice or the modifiers are tied to the classes. Race shouldn't have any change for min/maxing on a character.
Playing a little Dungeons & Dragons finally, nice! I’m more of a pen and paper D&D guy, but this came does look good for co-op and multiplayer.

One thing you got wrong -
One of the recent updates to the game (or just an announcement from the latest showcase from hell) is that racial stats are no longer a thing, and instead the stats are tied to the class because larian wants us to be able to play what race we want, instead of being forced into a specific race for min-max purposes.
Outside of that nothing you've said has changed to my knowledge.

HELL YES.
I don't subscribe to the idea that min-maxing is the only way to succeed at the game. Will you be more powerful and finish combat encounters faster? Probably. The problem with designing a game around always being the most optimal build possible is that every other build is locked out from finishing the game. I highly doubt Larian designed their game with min-maxed characters as the minimum requirement to enjoying it.
I feel sorry for starfield. Based on what I hear around, BG3 is going to release in a more complete state while I'm doubtful whether starfield will even run on launch.

I think it's funny you compare it to skyrim, the way I see it there are two schools of RPGs : Bethesda style and Bioware style. Bioware is the party based RPG with companions and banter, whereas Bethesda isn't.
Well, Bethesda games also has companions, but to me they feel very one dimensional. When playing a Bethesda game and bringing a companion I still feel *alone*, with Bioware games much less so
Think you’re way over exaggerating picking your race plays. You aren’t gonna hard lock yourself from beating the game because of your race choice. No need to scare new players like that

I've always loved Origins and have missed it so I'm very excited to play this game. My biggest concern is the whole "I chose the wrong race and now I can't progress"... I don't exactly like hearing about that. I have a HUGE problem with making alts and never getting anywhere in games because I'm constantly restarting. With Origins, I tried each of the races and played until the tutorial was done and then made a decision on which one I wanted to stick with until the end and I went all the way until the end (which is a pretty impressive fear for someone like me).
If I put 30-40 hours into this game and find out I made the wrong decision when I created my character... I highly doubt I'll ever touch the game again. (I mean, hell, 30-40 hours with a game is pretty darn impressive, but I hope my point comes across).
Gaming sounds like an interesting hobby for someone worried about wasting 30-40 hours 😅. Best regards in your passions

Bruh, check your intel before throwing it out into the world.
The worst possible idea for immersion is constantly switching from isometic view to third/first person and to cutscenes. Feels completely scripted, unnatural and fake. A much better path eg took Hades, with just using the world itself tell the story, without the unnerving switching between perspectives.

Not everyone cares about min maxing. Not sure thats a fair judgment when it comes to character creation. Its a DnD game, role playing is like 50% of the core gameplay.
So. I've been playing MMOs and such for 20 yrs and DnD since Adnd... I can honestly say that Baldurs Gate 3 is MOST DEFINITELY NOT a game I want to play. The lore is super attractive to me but that Final Fantasy one style combat? Nope. Not worth 60$ let alone $200.
So, even if you are a TRUE FAN, chew this to the bone before you drop cash . You'd only be encouraging future development of turn based games like these...
