About The Game:
The story and structure are similar to Metroid II, but the game adds controls, visuals, and gameplay, and introduces features new to 2D Metroid games, such as a melee counterattack, the ability to fire freely at any angle, and a selection of abilities. Development began in 2015, produced by longtime Metroid developer Yoshio Sakamoto. The game received positive reviews for its visuals and improved gameplay over the original game, with many viewing it as a return to form for the series.

Metroid Samus Returns review | The Completionist

jirard. i never wanna hear you say "punish me daddy" ever again.
agreed
I want to hear him say it more.....
same
LMAO! I both laughed and cringed when I heard him say this. Not sure if I'm ok with it, disturbed, or something else.
Agree! I paused the video just to comment, but thank you for doing it for me.
"Just think how stunning this would look if it came out on the switch"
Hes gonna be real happy about Metroid Dread
Lol, exactly what I was thinking.
The extended boss footage they showed looked tedious as heck. I really hope it's a great game but that video took all of my excitement away. Crossing my fingers.
@@ELCHimoiX1 lmao get over yourself💀
@@ELCHimoiX1 why do you type so fucking weird you gotta be a virgin man🤣
@@ELCHimoiX1 yep for sure you definitely type like a socially awkward virgin lmao you laugh so you don’t seem hurt “hahahahaha.”
“Imagine how good this would look if it was on the switch” METROID DREAD ON SWITCH COMING SOON & IT LOOKS AMAZING
Yeah I would be hyped for an upres version of Samus Returns for Switch, updated to work with Switch controls vs the dual screen stuff.
You can actually get this game looking clean as heck on emulation, but its never the optimal version to play when compared to playing it on 3DS because of the touchscreen aspects.
I would buy this game a second time for Switch if Nintendo decided to port it.
@@ELCHimoiX1 Samus Returns didn't exactly look "soulless." Sure, the atmosphere and feeling was kinda pants like Zero Mission's, but at least it had good backgrounds and animations. Dread, however, has a nice art-style like SR while ALSO maintaining the creepy and lonely atmosphere most Metroids are known for. Hype!
@@ELCHimoiX1 You might have a better picture of this if you weren't busy projecting yourself onto it lol. The tone and atmosphere is clearly different from samus returns, it has more consistent, brooding themery from what we've seen. But we've barely seen anything yet, it's way too early to be making any of these kinds of judgment calls.
Oh my God. I NEED that game NOW!
The outfit for Fusion mode is Her Fusion and Zero Mission outfit. Both outfits are also in Smash Bros.
Gonna guess Jared has yet to go full completionist with Zero Mission if he didn't know. Either that or it's been a while since he played it.
Marche800 so samus actually still has her skin and can be sexy after the horrible surgery and genetic fuckery she suffered in Fusion?
sixstringpsycho
Have you ever died in Fusion? She still has the same death animation in Super where her suit breaks.
Seacliff But her suit design-wise is different in fusion. It's not her Zero Suit. However, both designs are in Smash 4.
TheTriforceofAwesomeness nono, I'm asking are the ass and tiddies intact because they are a treasure to this community. Not the main attraction necessarily, but you'd have to be lying if you said you wouldn't be saddened if a body like that suddenly went all Sarah Kerrigan. I mean, at least Kerrigan kept her stacked form, just with zerg complexion and all those insectoid organs and appendages... eugh
I was hoping the mystery meat was...
Prime Rib.
Yes
I was hoping for Hamus
ha ha ha ha ha
Dude yes. Huge missed pun opportunity there!
**clap** ............. **clap** ............... **clap**
Wow Jirard. You did something really impressive here. Not only did you show your prowess in completing a game, and your skill in beating it quickly, but you combined your extensive knowledge of completing games in general to develop a strategy that worked --the first time--. You're like a scientist of completing games, you didn't just play it until you knew the game inside and out, you used past information from other games and experiences to derive a path to take in this game, and you were correct. Holy shit dood. Congratulations!
Is that a House Party reference? Did House Party exist in 2017?
1:12 Hey, don't think we ain't seeing that cover of AM2R hidden in the backround. ;D
I came back here to celebrate Metroid Dread getting revealed
this is what I'm going to be doing since there will be no online maps the first few days
I'm so hyped
Metroid Dread has a full map in-game
Damn, all my respects to Jirard putting so much effort and going "old-school completionist" and nailing a Metroid game without any guides or info available. That shit is satisfying.
"Hey, Jirard, Metroid Samus Returns just came out"
Jirard, looking up from 3ds with creepy stare: "I beat it!"
ryhansen1 how
I get the reference
toa Ventron pre-release copies
ryhansen1 "NINTENDRRRRRR"
lol, I miss that bit.
You didn't even call it Meatroid: Sandwich Returns
HAHAHHQAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHHA
Hey also missed the Metroid Prime Rib Pun.
He did for a moment.
Justin Bailey Samus is in this game?!??! Thats the first time ever she's been referrenced in metroid since the original game in America (not japan)
Oh hello there. I didn't expect to see you here. I don't know why i replied to a 10 month old comment.
@@elijahlundby6387 I just replied to a 10 month one as well!
@@popgoesfan5211 Hey, I just did it too!
CJPlayer13
I'll be back in 9 months. Remind me when the time comes.
Dunban: "The time is now!"
@ the hiring Samus to kill the Metroids alone part. To her credit, she defeated the Space Pirates alone multiple times, blew up multiple planets, defeated her dark version twice and destroyed phazon for good all by herself at this point. She's more than qualified for the job
Not at this point, considering this takes place immediately after the first game, she only defeated the Space Pirates alone once so far. Remember, this is a remake.
Incorrect, the entire Prime subseries takes place between M1/MZM and M2:RoS/M:SR.
hmmm, that seems really odd. although in the Prime series, Metroids still live, i thought Samus was then sent to wipe out all the Metroids after her fight with Mother Brain. but then again, in Fusion, the X parasite was only kept at bay thanks to the Metroids.... the timeline is all over the place.
Fusion is fine, since it's at the end of the timeline, and there's no real indication how long the X parasite was infesting Zebes (or whichever planet they infested, can't remember offhand), not that it matters since they could've been in stasis/hibernation thanks to the metroids anyway.
They were on SR388
How many of you are going to complete this game?
I would if I could get my hands on the amiibo :(
Like Sonic Mania, I'm gonna destroy this game until there's nothing left. I'm gonna love this game.
I know I'm going to once I finish up MonHun Stories.
That One Video Gamer i will just to have the extra saddisfaction in Fusion Mode
That One Video Gamer me
I don't mind the melee counter, except it made so many enemies way easier to defeat.
But with the bosses, on the other hand, those melee counters can really catch you off guard when you are still learning the patterns, and when you manage to pull one off, it feels amazing, and you get rewarded with a really cool animation
The problem is that it feels forced or shoehorned into every encounter, and _not_ using it makes the fights take much longer, so it feels like a necessity.
This is my first Metroid and it's easily one of the most immersive game experiences I've had in a while. Not been this immersed in a game since Breath of the Wild. I have nothing but praise for the game, no matter how hard the bosses get or how much I rage over said bosses, because they are still fair.
And me not getting bored to pieces with the gigantic maps is a testament to the environmental design and gameplay. Can't wait for Metroid Dread.
Oh man, if you think this is immersive, you REALLY need to play the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Hopefully we'll see an HD port/remaster on switch - if not, highly recommend picking up a Wii U (and wiimote / nunchuck) and buying it from the eshop. As an added bonus, all of the other 2D metroid games are available there too (super metroid, fusion, and zero mission are also must-plays)
@@aether3885 I want to, but I'm not paying like 300 bucks to get my hands on a collection.
9:11 I don't know. I think Prime 3 showed us that Samus has an easier time when she doesn't have to worry about backup trying to kill her.
pokemaster361 TRUE not to mention other m
Oh God, those Marines in Prime 3 were so unhelpful. xD And the fact that it basically became an escort mission was a pain in the ass too.
Did you really have to put the link on 9:11 lol
Happy you were able to put the amiibo to good use!
>:(
i hate what amiibos have done to this game...
The amiibos look so good
I'm glad we have them.
I drink your tears.
Rogers base on the completionist!
Zachary Erickson because some like it difficult. Also fusion suit has less shielding.
Mercury steam did such a great job I believe in them for metroid dread.
And they delivered
@@TheBanishedWind why yes they did
According to my 3Ds activity log, I've put 110 hours and 32 minutes into this game so far.
Guess that shows how much I love this game :D
I wish the ZL button on the New 3DS did the Morph Ball.
ZL for Morph Ball and ZR for switching Beam modes would actually have been incredible.
Tapping the bottom screen does it.
Randøm Blue Tøad we know. But its not conveniant at all tbh.
Kai SchSp Good point.
Or switched to missiles
"Just think of how stunning this would look on the Switch!"
THE PROPHESY HAS COME TO FRUITION, THAT BEARD GIVES HIM THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE GODS
Now I can't wait for Jirard to complete Metroid Dread
There is something nice about when you give a game a "Complete It"
To all the people arguing about AM2R vs Samus returns I have to ask. Why not both? They both reimagined Metroid II in fantastic ways. Both have different perks to them, and to deny the merits of either game would be an insult. To the people participating in the turf war, just chill out. Fan games and official remakes are two different concepts and to act like they're in some form of competition is stupid.
Just enjoy videogames for god's sake and quit acting like one has to reign supreme over the other.
Because Nintendo was a dick over AM2R.
Robert Lehto get over it
its called buissness
BlueBitProductions You know for everyone kissing Nintendo's ass your kind of ignoring two things. 1. Before they decided to shut down a fan made game, Nintendo ignored Metroid for SEVEN YEARS and 2. Don't you think it's kinda odd that only they started announcing the new games ( along with forcing the developers to change the remake from Fusion to Metroid 2) after the AM2R got the series notice?
1.they shut it down at that time because they where planning more meteoroid games coming (returns, and prime 4) You do know they start making games years in advance right?
2. OBVIOUSLY they where planning these new releases FAR before that. A game like this takes YEARS to make
BUY THIS GAME IF YOU WANT TO KEEP SAMUS RELEVANT
not to mention Prime 4
Id love to but its on the 3DS.
If it were on the switch (which it should have been) id buy it in a heartbeat
This man is going to get war flashbacks when metroid dread comes out
Mercury Steam should be given Zelda II to remake next.
Welp they’ve been given motherfkin METROID 5!!!
Better
Fusion Mode ending suit was from Metroid Fusion, not Super Metroid.
We definitely need more Video Game Show! I want to know what kind of sandwich Earthbound would be.
Either a Skip Sandwitch or a Lucky Sandwitch, however, I believe the best meal to represent EarthBound would be Beef Jerky XD
Although there already is an in-game recipe for making jerky. Obtain some type of meat, slice it into pieces about half of an inch thick. Hang the pieces on a laundry line or something like it and leave out in the sun for maybe 6 months... Well, that's what my recipe says. When eaten, you recover about 150 HP.
Mr.Saturn's Mother Burger, a 2 lb Beef Burger topped with salted fries, ketchup, sugar and american cheese, between 2 large pizzas.
A ice cream one
When you get stuck in a game and think, “Oh I’ll just look this up.” So Jirard is the guy on the other end giving you the answers. Thankyou sir
"This sandwich is on the 3DS" is just...a great quote
unbelievably impressive Jirard! also why do I suddenly need a cooking show with Jirard?
Mike O'Shea with Jared! /s
Mike O'Shea I'm sad he didn't say "Super Metroid and Super Metroid and Super Metroid" as he was just piling on the bacon strips.
Needs more Super Metroid
The Sandwichtionist. Oh man, that might just be my new favorite part of any Completionist video yet. Of course I scroll down to type that, scroll back up, and now you're channelling Godot with the meat plate! LOU! GIVE ME A PLATE! PULLED PORK! Anyway... yeah it sounds like this game really is a Prime example.. uhh, screw the puns. Great job though.
Remember you need a Kuhh-knife
Heya Tim! How's biz?
Tim! I didn't know you watched this channel. What a pleasant surprise.
*Screw Attack* the puns, FTFY Tim :]
I wish there was just a 20 min video of him sitting there in silence, eating the whole thing.
POST THOSE MAPS, BOY
They have maps at the Metroid Database!
8:57 you know, in retrospective, I realized now why they didn't. Prime 3 tried that, and they whole galactic federation got split in two in the process, while her backup became mind controlled traitors.
...and they were all just hanging out together on the ship, they weren't on mission yet
Looks like someone wasn't paying attention; most of the major tracks from _Metroid II_ do get remixes in this game, while music lifted from other games in the series is in the minority; it's just hard to notice most of the time that they're reworked versions of the original tracks by sheer virtue of how much BETTER all of them sound now.... God, this game is fantastic.
Yeah, all the beeps and boops are weaved into new ambient melodies. It's so great.
While true, I noticed the remixes from other games more. Though probably because I've only beaten Metroid 2 once, while I've beaten Super, Zero, and Prime 1 dozens of times
*+Thomas Molina* It also helps that outside of the track "Surface of SR388," the tunes from all the other games were way more memorable than anything in _Metroid II_ to begin with (to the point that they actually feel kind of out-of-place when they crop up in this game, despite how great the tracks by themselves are).
He doesn't have the best ears, he said something similar about breath of the wild.
Jirard definitely goofed the music section.
I mean he said the "hot areas" were lower norfair, which they're not. They're actually magmoor caverns from Prime.
The only Super Metroid music used was from brinstar.
Sandwich Returns T-Shirt when? I need this.
I just want this shirt to be white with a huge stain of BBQ sauce on the front XD
can make your own then.
Damn, man. finishing under 4 hours on Fusion. I am extremely impressed
26:25 jarard starts his decent into madness
The fact that they used all three non-power suit Samus designs and used all of them for sub-4h runs shows how much MercurySteam cares about the legacy of Metroid.
Wait. Zero Mission had endings for having like 15% of items and then finishing it quickly. What if Samus Returns has the same requirements for some endings?
Nah, collection percentage is all related to the Chozo memories.
That's a bit of a relief. Getting the 15% under 2 hours on hard mode ending was a pain.
Barcey The Zombie i thought the 15% run wasn't time restricted??
Luis Ullrich My mistake, been years since I played Zero Mission so I had to look up the requirements again. The 15% runs only required to be done once on hard and once or normal.
I'll never forget playing Metroid 2 on my Game Boy late at night… Every time I came across one of the bosses, that music would start playing and it literally freaked me out every time! It felt like I was in the movie aliens! It was terrifying for a kid! I played it every time I wanted a good scare when I was 9 years old. Good times
Oh man Jirard, this was a joy to watch! So awesome seeing you so sincerely enjoy completing a game man. Keep up the awesome work!!
Take a shot every time jirard says Metroid
Big Smoke aww that's rough
I like being alive, thanks.
Big Smoke why would anyone do this!? Why did I do this?
You want people dead you sick fuck
take two shots when he says Daddy
So if I play the game really fast I get to see samus in a bikini
Ah hell yeah
To do that you will need the metroid amiibo and beat the game on the hardest difficulty in under 4 hours, so.... good luck to ya
Don't underestimate the power of thirst, Dycie
So if I play it SUPER fast will I...uh....you know...
or you could google it
Sadly it's not cool art like the gba games instead it's the 3ds character model :/ still cool metroid one reference
Literally marathon-ed your entire playlist before you had to take them down. By the end of it, I was inspired to start my own channel up. Thanks dude, keep up the awesome work!
Where's the metroid prime rib?
I watched this whole thing, and now I just want AGDQ.
How many of you would LOVE to see the Beard Bros. play through the Metroid Prime Trilogy? I especially think Alex would enjoy it thoroughly.
oh fuck yes
Yes please!
God damn dude. Respect to you and the team for doing this all before walkthroughs or guides were available.
You and your team are absolute beasts.
I hope you do some similar videos for Metroid Dread!
Keep up the good work.
14:51 “Slow down time with the Phase Drift ability.”
(Doesn’t use it properly)
lol
So, how about that special edition Metroid style 3DS?
I copped it. It looks even better in person.
Nana-Kyoto
Why would I buy that if the 2DS XL was released about 3 weeks before?
I'm in heaven!
Gravity Falls Canada because 3d is better.
Kauris Azurai
Depends on the person. Face tracking 3D doesn't work well with the millions of people with glasses, eye disorders, or simply just have one eye...
Jesus Christ, 52 hours? Holy shit.
WOLF FORCE is that bad or good for a metroid game?
Nick Dawson well considering metroid games are usually 8-10 hours its awesome
Solid Fox 117 oh never played one so I didn't know
Nick Dawson That's pretty damn awesome.
Nick Dawson I highly recommend you try it
Bravo, my man, BRAVO! As you started talking about the ending times I was afraid you weren't going to do it, but boy was I not disappointed. Great work!!!
Thanks for the shout-out, Jirard! I saw that physical copy of AM2R in the background.
I was hoping the meat would be Metroid Prime Rib
Jirard for AGDQ 2018 with Samus returns?
He wont stand a chance
+carsten h. Real talk though, if he recorded his playthroughs, he should submit them to speedrun.com.
There are no 100% runs yet, so Jirard could hold the WR for it.
squaswin ok thats true..at least for a few weeks
"...theoretically could lead to more 2D metroid titles."
Pretty much exactly what Sakomoto said led to Dread's development. Nicely done Jirard!
I think it's awesome that you went back to speed run and did all that work mapping out the routes. You sir are a true completionist.
I' love to see The Video Game Show as a real Series xD
there are ppl doing foods based on games and other media already out there, check out Feast of Fiction.
Just for the record, you can tap the touch screen to go into Morph Ball mode. It's very useful!
Gokou Blacc - Subarashī
I would give this two likes if I could. Not enough people know this. During the end bits of the game this is a godsend
Zach B.
The game tells you when you get it!
Gokou Blacc - Subarashī
Yeah, but people just assume things and end up missing it haha.
Eh, I don't think it's an issue of people not seeing it, I just feel it's a problem of needing to specifically touch the _map_ screen in order to morph that becomes a problem.
I have to reach pretty far with my right thumb, off of my jump and shoot buttons, over the beam switch buttons in order to press the map screen specifically in order to morph faster, it's a neat idea, but I feel it should have just been a button I could map.
Honestly I used that feature so little I ended up just getting better with double-tapping the circle pad down in order to morph faster, it is by no means simple, it's actually pretty awkward to do, but it's something you get used to and I find it's less out of the way than clicking the map screen.(They could simply remedy this by patching New 3DS owners who have this game so that they can map morphing to one of the triggers, or, and more likely, rebind Aeion to a trigger and map morph to A, it would be very nice)
Zyad48
I use it almost exclusively. It's all about when and where to do it.
Much respect for you and those speedruns, The Sandwichtionist
Thanks for the Efforts you made, especially the speedrun part of the Game. I really appreciate it!
I want metroid Fusion hd remake now
Slick Tactics we'd first need a super Metroid remake
gamonstudios why remake a masterpiece?
Solid Fox 117 that's is true
No they should remake Fusion and make it to where you can sequence break without crashing or soft locking the game
johnny elkins that's even better, also i would like a throwback super powersuit for Samus. The unnamed suit was disappointing imo
Yay! Best part of friday is new Completionist episode. :)
Great Episode Mr. Sandwichtionist! Just a couple things I'll correct you on is that the Hard Mode Perfect Ending you saw was actually Samus's secret Justin Bailey Outfit! And for the fusion suit, although very similar to Super Metroid's End Outfit, I think matches better with her end suit from Fusion. Super cool endings regardless of where they're from and it's extra cool that you got all the best ones! Congrats!
That might be the world's first, Jirard! Awesome job, man!
"Hey, for your review of a sci-fi horror game based off of Alien, what music should we use?"
"M O R E D O N K E Y K O N G C O U N T R Y"
"would have like to hear more of the haunting, bizzare, and sometimes downright terrifying music from the original metroid II"
DID YOU PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME ON MUTE???
I just watched this, and I gasped with glee when you found the poses!
Great Job! glad to hear you felt acoplished when you where done. appriciate the show. Gl HF with the next one
Mercury Steam originally wanted to do Fusion... Please let that be there next project!
Nexious Imrex would have much rather seen a remade fusion than metroid 2.
if Nintendo gives them the Green Light on that... Oh what good that day will be
Nah, an updated Super Metroid would be best, NO design or map changes, NO mechanic changes, NO feel changes. Only graphics and pressing a bumper button to change to missiles and Super Missiles, Like Zero Mission
Picked this game up on your recommendation, and so glad I did. Easily one of the best entries in the series.
Thanks for showing me the ending screens! I know I might be able to do it on normal mode and get under 4 hours...the other two would whoop my butt up and down the block so I wouldn't see them for a LONG time, so thanks for that.
This was the best video Ive seen from you thus far. Much love, keep it up!✊🏼
236 episodes. excuse my language, but holy shit!
And over 2,860 videos across the six channels, and I didn't count the podcasts on ThatOneVideoWebsite, his twitch streams and his involvement in collabs for other channels...
The past 6 years were REAL busy for Jirard!
alouette200 And then there's his music...
Yo, let's be honest- Metroid Other M was alright, but the story was a poorly scripted sloppy mess. But that's the only bad thing really. I'm so hyped for this!!!
Emmanuel Monroy "No Samus, you can't use the suit that reduces lava damage in the lava zone because I said so. Fuck u lol"
The controls were weird too
I definitely see games taking combat mechanics from Other M like the finisher moves for example. Hell this game did it XD
The whole game sucked, many core elements of metroid were just removed. Inexcusable.
@Blazing Zephyr Cool opinion bro
This game is just what we needed for the series. Also you are a brave soul for doing what you did!
AMAZING video. Great job man.
Slowly Jirard is going insane from all the hard games he is completing
Sonic Mania As I scroll through the comments the comments become more and more applicable.
LET'S MAKE A SANDWICH
Well he is taking a break for a week, so he's certainly not gonna go off the deep end just yet.
game4brains 123 yes he isn't yet but maybe when he tries to complete super Mario odyssey or kingdom hearts 3 that might be when he starts to go a little CRAZY FOR COKO PUFFs
Dark Souls, Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom will be more taxing than Mario Odyssey or KH3, as they wont be new experiences...
The Gaming Paladin good point I'm betting sonic 06 is when he will break
This game is sooooooooo goooooooood it’s one of the best Metroid games I have played.
you're a legend, man. thanks for doing the leg work for us
Wow, nice speed runs! Congrats Jirard!!!
28:20 At first, I was diappointed that beating the game fast just left her in her Zero Suit, since you see her in it every time you die, and Zero Suit Samus is playable in Smash. But the fact that you get other costumes if you play on harder difficulties totally made up for it.
Draygone Fuzzbottom yea. fusion ending is pretty sweet but i wont get it LOL. only all item runs for me.
I think this episode does what a lot of others dont: if shows off how proud Jirard is to be a completionist and how at the end of the day no matter how grueling a game can be, if it gives those brave few a reward for going above and beyond its worth It no matter the Size of the reward
it shows because he had a wonderful time completing it, and the sense of accomplishment that he got from speedrunning this game, reminded him why he is a completionist to begin with.
I saw in his face the same manic energy that possessed me as I was toughing it out my first time in Dark Souls: that ferocious determination to never give up on your goal no matter how insane the challenge is. And I'm so glad that he pulled it off, three times no less! Man, now I'VE gotta do a speedrun of this game, I haven't done one since Fusion and I forgot how much fun they were.
@the completionist Jirard you should be damned proud. your dedication is amazing and it brought a tear to my eye that you did basically what we had to do with pokemon red and blue...couldnt use the internet had to discover it all ourselves. you did wonderful and i personally appreciate you sharing that lovely mode easter egg upon finding it.
you did it dude! great work and great video!
13:45 "SCREWATTACK" - somecallmejohnny
"Punish me daddy.. And continue to punish me!" -Jared, 2017
hey that tune during the sandwich-making section, super mario paint, my god so many memories of that game back in the snes
Awesome job! I'm proud of you myself! Damn that's a big challenge, great job!
Is anyone else surprised the completionist didn't react to Metroid Dread I know I am extremely surprised.
"Punish me daddy"
- Jirard Khalil, 2017
Amazing episode you guys. This is one of my favourites so far. Keep up the great work all of you.
Much love from Jonas ;)
Gotta say Jirard... WELL DONE! As a faithful follower of the Mets in all forms from Nes to Wii/U I am LOVING! this game ^^ Can't feel more happy about it! And I do see how the controls are " Janky " a lot of the time you want to shoot ANYthing with that control scheme >
ok i gotta come clean . i really really wanna watch this video rn but i just cant
i am not familiar with metroid games. my exposure to them has been minimal. and i probably cant hinstly say that ive ever really played one.
BUT
im super excitied for this game and am very much looking forward to getting it now that its out. i have no doubt it will be a TON of fun , it looks awesome, and will be a great addition to my DS collection.
therefore, jirard, i somply cant enjoy your content right now. being new to the series, and seeing that this is a newly released game, i just dont want to spoil my experience, or be biased in anyway. (only because i really trust your opinion)
anyways. sucks for me ill have to wait till i get the game before i can watch.
know that i tried to watch it but i just couldnt do it.
i love you, keep up the hard work and thanks for the great new content
christian pierce i completely agree.
I just listened to it without watching the video. There's no spoilers in the audio.
In all honesty, I recommend not starting with this game in particular, Zero Mission is a much better starting point
Jirard didn't mention this as much in his review, but enemies hit like tanks and can also tank a ton of hits as well, it's not the kind of thing I'd recommend a newer player to start with.
Zero Mission is much easier and also is more open and non-linear, but also conveys things to the player better than this game does(that's also another issue this game has, poor conveyance, which isn't an issue in Zero Mission for a standard playthrough)
It's a much better starting point for someone completely new to the series, I recommend going with Zero Mission first, Fusion second, Metroid Prime 3 third, Super Metroid fourth, and if you enjoyed those games, give Metroid Prime 1 a shot and if you want after all of that, _then_ I'd recommend Samus Returns, and if you can find a download for it, AM2R(Another Metroid 2 Remake) which in my opinion is the better game. AM2R also got a better balance for difficulty too, the game is by default pretty okay with the difficulty scaling as you go on, but if you bump it onto hard mode, not only do enemies do more damage and take more hits, the A.I. is also improved and makes it _actually_ more difficult since the computer shows better competence.
Honestly if I had to put a pin on the issue with M:SR's difficulty, it's got the A.I. of AM2R's easy/normal mode, while also having the damage of AM2R's hard mode on the base difficulty, which in my opinion is just bad design, difficulty should come from enemies having specific patterns or competence with hitting you, not just going a billion damage when they hit you with stupid easy patterns and dumb A.I.
It may sound like I hate M:SR, I don't, I'm just rather critical because of what nintendo did with AM2R since I still feel it's the better game, and I'm a Metroid fan who's had their opinion of nintendo soured by what they've done with recent releases, I'm not going to just settle for mediocrity anymore, if there's some kind of issue, I'm going to fucking call nintendo out for it. I like M:SR don't get me wrong, I think this is a pretty great direction for them to take, but it's going to definitely need some fine-tuning and a lot of polish before this new 2d formula really hits it's stride.
thank you. i apprecisate your opinion.
im sure most of those games (zero mission esp. ) are on the estore, ill look into it
by the time i bet that the new one will be cheaper lmaoo ;) :P
Yeah, hope you have fun playing them :)
"Polygon, Kotaku, and IGN" You could've just said "a urinal, a toilet, and a used rusty needle"
Cain's Brain That implies they deserve to see our nudes.
They're more like the pig toilet and wind toilet in Stardust Crusaders
Hey now...a urinal, a toilet, and a used rusty needle all have practical uses unlike the aforementioned cancerous game journos and can likely play video games better than those journos.
This is an awesome episode. I'm not nearly as good as you- I probably have no chance of completing this game the way you did, but the amount of Samus love from you is really cool. M2SR deserves every bit of love we can give it.
Now, Jirard, be my hero and please upload those god damn maps!
