    I would tell the customer that I understand he is going through a hard time and I would like to help. I would ask if there is any way he could remember where he left his receipt. If he mentions he tried looking for it, but wasn’t able to find it, I would then speak to my supervisor. Maybe she is aware of a policy that I’m not aware of being that I’m a new employee. If store policy still doesn’t allow for a refund, I would then help the customer come up with ideas to raise money for his daughter. I would ask if she has a fund raiser in place and go as far as donating 20 dollars out of my own money .

    Since all receipts are linked with a name and a phone number, I'll ask the customer for further details like the time and day he bought that toy and I will try to judge if he's telling the truth or not. Although the price of a toy is marginable for paying his daughter's prescription, I'll look further into his receipt details. I may also ask the manager or a coworker for a suggestion and I'll respond accordingly.

    in the company system you can tell when that stock item was purchased. Ask time and when approx, and verify that way.
