  • Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I take our flagship Peterbilt 389-X, Miller Industries, Century 1150R heavy rotator towing and recovery unit to tow a specialty piece of equipment. I'm tasked with towing an All Wheel Drive utility company pole grapple and auger truck. This machine is designed to replace utility poles. They are very interesting to watch work and I've been fortunate enough to see them in action. It's just me and the Rotator today getting some windshield time and enjoying a fairly simple tow for once. Yes, this is simple and routine for me, however, I hope my viewers enjoy the drive and the job anyway. I know I did. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching. So, it seems that the most commonly asked question from this video and a couple of previous videos is "What did you do to your finger?" OK....here goes....I don't know exactly HOW it happened, but the tendon in my left hand ring finger snapped with what the doctor called a "swan tear". I've had to keep it in a brace and wrapped for 6 weeks. I am no longer wearing the brace, but the finger is still swollen and I cannot straighten the outer knuckle joint. I have the option of surgery, a long rehab, and all with a small percentage chance of getting the finger to straighten out and back to 100%, or I can leave it as it is and perform some physical therapy, deal with the bent knuckle joint and try to regain the strength in my left hand, which is already coming back some. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. Either way, my hand is still functional and, for that, I am grateful. Thanks to all for your concerns and prayers. God bless.

I was going to ask about your finger. Whatever you choose to do, may you have the best outcome with the shortest recovery time possible. I can't imagine Midwest running very well without you at the helm. Prayers for you & your family.

Organ regrowth can help regrow it back to a like new condition. Just saying, if the surgery doesn't work out this could literally fix your broken tendon and knuckle joint. They are getting quite advanced at doing this. You know how arthritis happens when the cartilage wears out? Organ regrowth can literally grow back new cartilage to replace it, meaning the joint can work as if it were new.

Gotta LoL, back in the '90's there would be up to 30 bucket trucks in my parents yard waiting to be picked up to go to the trucks new destination, and a lot of the new trucks had either flat tires or the two speed axle would be stuck in low range, we had a cat the driver's called "the inspector" , she would climb up and "inspect" the trucks when they were in the yard, one driver had left the yard and got fifty miles down the road when he had to pull over and turn around to come back to the house, the cat had climbed in to the engine compartment and took a ride, the driver rescued her and put her in the cab and brought her back home

Its interesting how you went about towing that. Great work as always! I work for the equipment manufacturer that built that truck and I know for a fact we haven't considered how you would recover one of our pieces of equipment. I would love to know more about what you would like to see on a bucket truck or a digger derrick that would make towing and recovery easier? It's sparked a fun conversation in our office of how our equipment gets used in the field.

In my opinion, having discussions about how the things you manufacture are used in the field is one of the most important parts of the development cycle. And not just among yourselves, but with actual users, the ones using the equipment several hours a day.
I work in a hospital, and when we implemented a new electronic medial record system, we invited all the departments to join us and tell us what they want. Most of them did. The ones that did not are the ones complaining the loudest about how the new system doesn't fit their needs...

Hi Ron! Awesome video as always!
If I lived closer (I'm in Florida) I'd break out the motorcycle and come video for you!
I was watching that light bar you have and had a couple of ideas. I don't know if any are incorporated and just weren't obvious, so I'll list them out:
    a. Add a wireless dash-cam to the bar so you have live view/video from the rear looking backwards - it's not a case of you-never-know, more a case of 'when'!
    b. Add a GPS tracker to the bar, so if it does come off for any reason, you can find it again!
    c. Add a charging port to the bar so, like with the remote for the tator, when you put it in the bin you can plug it in and charge it ready for the next use.
    d. Add a security cable to it to keep it attached to the towed vehicle in case the rubber bungees fail - kind of negates the need for point b above!
When it comes to the breakaway chains (between the towing and towed vehicles) I'm amazed that they still rely on 1920's technology! Why isn't there something to take up the slack on those chains to prevent them from dragging on a corner? It should be easy to design and implement, take up very little space/weight on the back of the truck, but I'll leave this here for others to put in their ideas!
Hope your finger gets better soon - you know for sure that murphy has his sights set firmly on it!
    have a blessed day!

Those rollers for the safety chains always seem to cause trouble for you and others I’ve watched on CZcams. It’s to the point where you don’t use the rollers and they are just in your way! Would you consider removing them to get them out of your way?
I wonder if there’s an improvement that could be made on the design, because it’s a fantastic idea to make the safety chains easier to use so operators are more likely to utilize them.
I love these “odd” vehicles that you get. It’s always fun to see different units wether it’s a hi-rail truck, heavy hauler, car hauler, etc. These are my favorite type of videos!

I am always intrigued with the different ways Ron solves problems when the usual orthodox methods aren't convenient for the tow.

Hello, Ron. You presented an interesting way to hook up the break away chains. As you have taught in the past, there is more than one way to get to ten. Too sorry to hear about the condition affecting your left hand. Glad to hear the condition is getting better with strength returning. Please be safe and God Bless.

Ok Rotator Ron, I've seen that ring finger wrapped up at least 3-4 times now. Do we need to just cut it off or what lol. U got to be careful, hands are precious and necessary for your line of work. As always, your videos are great. Keep up. The good work and God Bless you and your family and staff.

That song that you use regularily use on your videos, was used in another CZcamsr's channel - containerman2 ; awesome aerial 4k view! nice big lashup. This is just a head's up notice, letting you know that someone else likes your taste in music also.

I might consider longer breakaway chains, but that problem seems pretty rare and I don't know how deep those pockets are for the chains. If my little work pickup has taught me anything, it's that it can adapt. Encounter a problem, find a solution. Rinse and repeat with next problem.

Ron, based on your comments in this video, I am sending you 5 Round Tuits and 5 Stick Tuits. That is one of each for yourself (you did say as soon as you get one), and the other 4 as you see fit around the shop. Always enjoy your videos, best wishes and thoughts for you and yours, and hoping you don't have to work too much on this Memorial Day holiday.

We had a excavator stuck in about 15 feet of clay and, it ended up snapping like 4 steel cables that the 3 50 ton wreckers had😅

Dis connecting from anything is always faster than hooking to it. Hooking uo requires get things lined up and figuring out where to hook.

I love the dashcam view on the drive there and back. Please keep it if you have the time to activate it when going on calls. Also if its a tricky tow out of a tight spot might have it view the load?
Love the work and stay safe.

Enjoying very much and learning a lot from your videos Ron thank you very much for sharing but I must say you're going to have to keep your fingers out of them bad places because it's got to be tough working with one hand and one finger being bad😂
