One of the absolute best channels of this genre. If this fella can spend his valuable time to show ppl how to play the classics, u owe it to yourself to pick up a guitar and play. Much thanks and respect for sharing your gift with the world.
Marty you did a great job showing details and variations of this "3-chord" rock classic. You made it possible for us to sit through a gig and cover those vital rhythm guitar parts. Btw, am blessed to have seen LS perform live just months before they left us. Music like this and musicians - like them -- and the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd -- live on forever. Thank you!
Began a few months ago. Just bought a Gretsch G5220 Jet and can play SWA now. I've never played and my son got me into guitar, so I'm forging a new relationship with music I have been listening to for decades. Thank you for this straight forward tutorial.
Marty is the best. I gotta admit...I've cheated and looked at other folks teaching songs on CZcams....but always come back to Marty. His method of teaching is so relaxed and just entertaining to follow along. I am just a beginner so I am constantly rewinding to learn this...but loving it. Marty is the Man....I only hope to play half as good as him one day.
AHAHAHAHHA I LOVE HOW AT SOME POINTS HE GOES "AND THEN AFTER THAT, ITS JUST *PLAYS THE WHOLE SONG*"
Yeah it just confuses the hell out of me haha
"First thing is we take a D chord" aiight imma head back a few videos
You should be learning the CAGED chords first.
Marty you are hands down my fave guitar teacher on youtube! Your directions are clear and concise, and I love how you break down each section of the song. I've picked up the guitar after a 13 year break, I was afraid I would fail like I did the first time, but with your videos I've been able to build a repertoire and become a confident guitar player. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Marty. You are by far one of the best guitar teachers out there. I've been stuck in a rut for years and you have my playing moving forward again.
thanks. I'm gonna play this for my sister at our wedding.

I started a couple months a go but I got better trying to to learn this
How's it going so far?
Sooo I suppose you got a bit better for a year. :D
I started guitar about a year ago. I progressed at a steady clip for the first few months, until - like many others - I hit a wall. Thanks to Marty, though, I'm busting out classic riffs and licks like nothing! These videos have played a key role on the developing my skills as a musician. Thank you so much, Marty. Keep on rockin'!
playing the licks is easy enough, but do you have the technique down?
Not perfect by any means, but constantly practicing. Finding what works and what doesn't and building off that. I'll get there.
Started playing in the summer after 30 years without a guitar. Your tutorials are awesome- it's all coming back to me (slowly!) Thanks very much.
Almost 6 minutes into the video but I've been watching for 2 1/2 hours :(

It felt so amazing to hit that intro Marty I'm 15 and have been watching your stuff you've helped me out a lot with Holiday TNT and enter sandman thx marty!
I saw Skynyrd many times with the first time in the mid 70s and then in the 80s and 90s. Loved them so much, I now play in a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band "Almost Skynard" . Great job with this song
but can you play free bird?
LOVE this Marty. It will take me 100 years to master this, but once I do, I will never stop playing it!
You did it? 🙂
Marty you're the man, everytime i'm stuck and cant figure out how to get something to sound right and you have a video on the song your explanation is on point and i get it down.
Best tutorials on youtube as always. 90% procent songs that I can play I have learnt from you. Literally.
Marty - this is awesome stuff! You brought me and my guitars back together again. If you ever can do "gimme three steps" that would make my year! Your the best! Thanks
Marty, you're a legend and much needed in these uncertain times.
I’ve been trying to learn how to play this song for ...are you ready? ...30 years. I learned it in one sitting with you Marty, thanks to your patience and your very detailed way of explaining how to play this song. Thank you my brother. Be safe in these corona virus times.
Great tutorial and thanks for showing a few spicy flavors in the piece to make it more fun to play. Its the little bits that can be over looked when playing this song or any song. I started to learn this song 10 years ago and love playing it and letting the true feeling come out of the song as my skills get better. Its teachers like you that spot the Gems in the song that make this song great to play.
Marty party Ur the best ive learnt 6 or more songs from u and im fluent at it. thx Marty music.
Great lesson Marty! You make most things look easy but in this case, everything seems fairly manageable as long as we take it slow before trying to speed up.
Happy holidays! - TGD
Awesome lesson Marty. For me, it is one of your better ones. My wife has been asking me to play it just about every day. My problem was I only knew the intro! LOL! But this has helped me so much. I really appreciate it!
Dude I am in Corona lockdown and bought a guitar because I have more free time now. I have like 3 chords and two songs rudimentary learned and I am loving it!!! Much love!!
Freedom rock! I remember that commercial from when I was a little kid. Haha
I left the guitar like 15ys ago, today I'm back thanks to you Marty.

Marty Swartz you Rock that is the best easy to follow fun to learn Sweet Home Alabama Lesson that I have seen since I first heard the song when it first came out. Being Sixty Five (one month away from 66) believe me I was there wishing I could play it. I learned an "Almost Rendition" couch pickers version.. .. you however gave me the real deal as always.
Hi Marty, Thanks for this tuto. I've tried many times to learn this song on tabs but I've never reach to play it good. Thanks to you now I get it ! You have really strong teaching skills !!!
I played this at my sisiter's wedding, although the ring was a little restrictive.
BAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

How the hell is such a seemingly simple song so hard?!
Amazingly Awkward it’s the other way around for me, this seems easier than I thought.
Because he's not playing it correctly! go search for ed king and how to play sweet home Alabama and see how much is missing from this guys lesson.
@@TheChristoph68 I don't know about the ed King version, but I did find this a little harder than I tought because im not used to the cord transitions of g5, c add9, while picking individual notes, as much as the usual g major, c major, and it feels weird, even though its super easy. ITs not muscle memory as much, not a big deal, (not that i don't use g5 a lot as I play a lot of ACDC). but add that with all the subtle lick changes and it it just made it a little harder than it should have been. I tend to be better at leads than anything chord related though, spend 90% time practising scales and soloing, and 10% chords lol. Still managed to learn this version pretty much perfectly in one day, but took a lot more hours than I thought.
Confidence
this is so simple wtf
What a great lesson....Had you and the internet been around 30 years ago when I picked this up with no talent, I may know something..hahaha...love following you Marty!!

hey marty. I like the swamp music style shirt.
Hey Jeremy! I really appreciate that !
Is this a new CZcams channel Marty? I noticed I wasn't getting any notifications and wondered why lol I just subscribed I have learned a lot of songs watching you. In the late 80's to the early 90's I always wanted to play Smells Like Teen Spirit thanks man. I have been watching you for years
did I say otherwise? Isn't early 90's considered as 1991? I guess the no . sign threw you off
And your point? Late 80's in my mind are 1987,1988,1989 Early 90's 1990,1991,1992,1993. 1994 is mid 90's
I didn't say I wanted to learn this in the 80's dude I was talking about the songs that were playing when I was in High School and when I got out and got married I ran across "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by the way I got married in 89 had a daughter in 1990 and was working in 1988 to 1994 and I heard it on the radio at work. No where did I say I *HEARD* it in the 80's
nice shirt man and great lessons as usual!

Fun to sing along as you're playing. My window is open and I'm listening through headphones and singing. My neighbors must think I'm nuts....lol Just learning how to play, and the only song I have down is "A Horse With No Name." It will be a long time before I can play this. You're fantastic! My wrist is killing me...

Omg ya I do! It would be awesome if there was a Shine on you Crazy Diamond tutorial!
Thank you!! One thing that I would also like to learn as you play these songs is what your amp settings are and what your guitar tones are set at. I can see where your pick up is, but it would help us at least understand how to get that sound. Nothing crazy, just a quick "these are my settings for this song to get the similar sound". Thank you again!!
Hi Marty.... You're a great tutor and great to see my favourite songs taught by you...
