He Mike I just did this job this morning and want to thank you for your expert DIY videos.
I bought the spanner wrench, the 3/8inch 12-point socket, the water tube kit and the seals.
to my surprise everything worked just perfect. The only thing that gave me trouble was the vertical large seal, when I went to punch it out, I could not get anything to punch the very small lip, (about 1/6 of a lip), so what I did was I had so 3/8-inch rebar about 18inches long
and ground a flat chisel point on it with my bench grinder and punch that sucker out. worked great. Another tip for DIYER's is when you punch the small seal out place a washer on top of the seal and punch it out with a long 1/2- inch extension, worked great with a rubber mallet. Saved $700.00 that the marina guy wanted to do the job.
Thanks again, DIYer from Ohio.
So on my Gen II, if I replace the shift shaft seal, Can I just carefully pull the shift shaft out, replace the seals and slide it back on?
Love your videos but got lost on the pre-load. I am changing the seals on the upper yoke and A dealer showed me in the Merc. shop manual says 100-inch pounds using the old gears, just new seal.
Thanks for watching, that’s awesome you were able to get the exact torque for your exact serial number outdrive.
We recommend following your exact serial number service manual to alleviate any issues or premature failure.
We follow our exact manual. 😁👍🧰
Help needed HELP Need right wording to bring up video in youtube, please. was not able to find any video of the shaft being stuck inside the gimbal bearing

Good morning ☕️ any update? Is the shaft of the outdrive stuck in gimbal bearing or it it an alignment shaft tool? Please keep us posted.

I'm not sure if you see the comments on older videos. Why did you take the top cap off?

bout to reinstall drive shaft but confused about pre load setting.
i changed drive shaft and oil seal reusing original gears and bearings.
Should pre load be at 5 inch lbs. or 80 ft. lbs.???
Hey guy, I have the same problem, I am changing the upper yoke seal and I get everything he said but got lost about the preload. talk to a dealer and he showed me in the Merc. shop manual this should be 100-inch pounds. And I don't understand how he got 7inch pounds for his. If you found out what it is supposed to be please let me know.
Thanks, Gary from Ohio
I just need to replace the seal. Can you show that?
Thanks for watching John, the upper unit seal replacement can be found in our full upper rebuild. You can fast forward to the parts you need. Link below.

Please let us know if you have any questions. 😎👍
Why do you need to change it??
Thanks for watching, we did a full rebuild because the outdrive was wearing out being 30+ years old without any replacements.
Running like new now. 😎👍☕️
You have great videos👍👍👍 i have alpha one gen 2 on tks 3.0 2013 model at 300 hours; my big problem is when the trim is up, water is comming to hull, but when in down position theres no problem, what can it be ; 🙏🏻

We appreciate that, water is definitely sneaking past a seal in that case. Leaking through bellows…possible…🤔…but also possible that water is leaking through transom gasket/seal…
Hate to think the transom gasket has already failed…but the outdrive is pretty heavy and trim rams are very strong. When rams lower drive down, the weight of the drive might be just enough to seal the gasket however when drive is trimmed up, it may be separating at the seam…hard telling…🤔
Thanks for your answer and time, 👍 lets watch all your videos get some skill and begin the job 👋🏻

Why can’t I find a video of someone actually pulling that final drive with the pinion gear to replace the lower seal ? And it kept bugging me that you was calling the out drive a engine. Lol
Hey Dave, thanks for watching. Let’s get this figured out! We have a Playlist containing several helpful videos on servicing this outdrive. Link to our Playlist is below.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I appreciate you looking but that’s not it. So on your video I previously made a comment on it’s the upper unit but the final seal in the lower section of it. It’s the seal the driveshaft slides into or out of . I accidentally pulled the spring out of the seal when I pulled the lower unit off.
