    STORYLINE:
Members of the Greek Orthodox Church celebrated Palm Sunday in Jerusalem.
The Greek-Orthodox's Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III and clergy held palm fronds during a procession leading into the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where Jesus is believed to be buried.
Fewer pilgrims attended this year's event due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
“We pray for the entire world, for those who suffer,” said Father Samuel Aroyan, who attended the Palm Sunday event.
“Hopefully that God will direct the leaders of the countries, so that they will do the best for the people and for the world that peaceful life will be established in the world," he added.
Israel’s assault on Hamas has killed more than 34,000 people, most of them women and children, according to health authorities in Gaza, who do not distinguish between civilians and combatants in their tally.
The war was sparked with Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7 into southern Israel, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, according to Israeli authorities, who say another 250 people were taken hostage.
Hamas and other groups are holding about 130 people, including the remains of about 30, Israeli authorities say.

    "Because whatever has happened to
    humanity, whatever is currently
happening to humanity, it is happening
to all of us. No matter how hidden the
cruelty, no matter how far off the
screams of pain and terror, we live in
    one world."
