    Yes, mother didn't like the gun ( 11:54 ) but it didn't matter because good 'ol dad was the boss. Now, mom runs the house and the country, so guns are deemed bad. Dad walks around with the baby strapped to his chest in a baby harness type device, and he carries a man purse.

    Great document. They knew back then that gun control would not keep guns out of the hands of criminals but it would instead disarm the law abiding. Back then getting a gun was so easy. You could buy a gun at a hardware store, through mail order, or at a gas station with no license, no registration, no background check, and no waiting periods and the crime rate was low with zero school shootings. I wish it was like this today.

    This is a great film. I doubt the military would be allowed to make a film like this today. Everyone should see this film. I remember my first BB gun (Daisy Model 105 "Pal" lever action) at age 9. The manual had a pretty good primer on safety and marksmanship, which i read many times. Things were different then. Society and especially our entertainment media tends to trivialize violence. The analogy with driving in the film is a good one. The object doesn't need burdensome regulation, but the behavior with the object might.

    The control freak should have to watch this video continuously, for hours, and be reminded that private gun ownership was once championed by our gov't., as well as many citizens. An armed population was regarded by the gov't as an additional deterent to possible attack from an outside enemy, not as a check to gov't. power (as the gov't probably sees private gun ownership today). Hitler apparently did not allow private ownership of guns. If this is true, it is all to obvious why.

    • @steveb6103
      @steveb6103 Před 4 lety +3

      Hitler didn't allow private gun ownership! From a D-Day broadcast of how Hitler took over Germany- First take over the media then take over the schools lastly take away the guns. See a pattern?

      You are COMPLETELY incorrect in your thought that the right to bear arms was protection from foreign countries. It was to protect the government from coups from militant groups that wanted to overthrow the government. Check out your Constitution and its reasons for existing because you dont know! Dumbass.

    I attended the NRA national matches in the 1980's once at Camp Perry, OH. Camp Perry now an Ohio National Guard base, during WWII, was used as a POW camp where German and Italian POWs were detained. The huts where the POWs stayed were still standing in the 80's and were used by the participants of the national matches. They installed a steel box in each hut that the participants could lock up their firearms that they were using in the matches. Recently, the national matches were moved from Camp Perry to Camp Atterbury, IN. Camp Atterbury is an Indiana National Guard base and has also been used by the Army as a training base for the Iraq and Afghanistan engagements.

These days, if that same thing were to be done...I can make a sure bet, there would be a hell of a lot more reaction than just some staring. People scrambling for their cell phones in hysterical panic, crying for the police to come and save them from the big bad gun toting dude! oh their crys of panic..."there's a gun! run for your lives!" The M14 is heavy. I own an M1a
      Which is the civilian version. It is a 7.56 caliber so you can carry less of it than lighter smaller ammo. That’s one reason why the military switched to the 5.56mm and the m16 which has less range. Now the military has learned that it needs a larger more capable round and is looking at 6mm variants.

Go more on a mentality of isolation not policing the world.

    I got my first gun at age 7, it was a Daisy Red Rider BB gun. My father, a Vietnam veteran, taught me the gun safety rules before I got to shoot it. I got my first shotgun at 11, a .410 single shot, my father continued to educate me on how to use the shotgun for hunting. He always stressed safe handling and shooting procedures with me and my younger brother. I was allowed to go hunting by myself at age 11 as long as my homework was done. Times sure have changed.

    While this video does touch on gun laws, hinting at the debate that we currently have, it obviously focuses on national security--the basis upon which the 2nd Amendment was written. Both Right and Left have forgotten this reality. The 2nd Amendment was written as it was for a point--to ensure there would always be a pool of competent marksmen to enable our defenses. I'm always suspect of the Left on defense, unfortunately. But I'm also suspect of the modern Right whenever it comes to the common good--I think of that spoiled brat of a Senator Rand Paul . . . he talks about "liberty" incessantly but what is he personally willing to do on liberty's behalf? Is he willing to give his marksmanship skills over to the country? In other words, put on the uniform and fight if necessary? Is he willing to offer up his son for that?
    We forget the other half of the 2nd and pretend that we're just supposed to collect military-grade weapons for the hell of it. No, friends, there is a clear purpose for which we are to enjoy our 2nd Amendment freedoms.

    • @rkba4923
      @rkba4923 Před 5 lety +1

      The Second Amendment was written to ensure the people's right to defend themselves and to throw off tyranny would never be infringed. That includes the right, which Lincoln denied the people of the South, to alter or abolish a government they believe is destructive of their rights. In other words, becomes a tyrannical Police State passing laws it has zero lawful Subject Matter over and so forth.
