    I made one this morning for my son! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Came together so nicely. I added an outside pocket before stitching it all together, and made my own strap with fabric. Just waiting for some magnetic snap closures to arrive so I can finish it. I'll send you a photo! THANK YOU for this and all your fun videos!

    to cover both outside and lining.

      @@TheSewingChannel yes we would like to see one that has a few dividers just to keep it simple because we could also put it in a zippered pocket. Well I mean the sky is the limit let’s try to keep it simple ha ha. But definitely if you can show us how to do the dividers then someone could just make or just turn the divider into a pocket it’s going to be installed the same way. And then there’s that question about the magnetic snaps

  • @dragonflylover1211
    @dragonflylover1211 Před 2 lety +2

    Hello, Love the simplicity of this and if I'm understanding-the 7 inches from the center of the bag will actually be the depth of it. By using 2 different fabrics we can actually start with longer than 40-40 inches so we can have a deeper bag? Example if I wanted to do a 9 inch deep bag I can add approximately 4 inches. Same with if I wanted flap longer I can increase length for that also. Going to experiment-thank you for the inspiration!❤

I have nearly everything a quilter could possibly need, or want to make many quilts, after researching for two years, and buying it all, but I still haven’t quilted a stitch. 🙄
    Maybe one day, I’ll have the courage to actually finish a quilt, with all the mistakes, flaws, crappy corners, misaligned seams, and mis-measured lines of stitching, and as I hug that mis-happen, triumphant survivor, of a reluctant quilter, I’ll say…. I will never make one as beautiful again. 💕 Maybe….. 😢

    Hey there Tracy I’m over here now watched your other video. However I still not sure how I can sew on those magnetic snaps. I know I could probably figure it out but my patience level is very low right now.
    There must be somewhere out there on adding these magnetic snaps and how to measure for the correct placement. The one on the body of the bag would have to be sewn on in between the lining and the outer fabric because of other videos I have watched where you want to reinforce that snap area with some usable fleece. The wear and tear that you are going to put on your purse without any reinforcement may end up ripping your fabric ripping

    I love this bag, but the fat quarters I want to use are landscape orientated patterns instead of portrait. Has anyone made one with the dimensions rotated?

      You would probably need to purchase by the yard and cut lengthwise instead of across like a fat quarter. It will take a little extra planning, but it can be done. (If I'm understanding your landscape is a directional pattern)

  • @dianadiehl
    @dianadiehl Před rokem +1

    I am using a directional print for my outer layer. Is the first seam at the bottom or at the top of the bag?? UPDATE: it doesn't matter about the seam. Directional fabric will not work for this because either the front and the flap or the back will be upside down. Bother! I'll use this excellent method for a different, non-directional fabric another time.

    • @dianadiehl

      @@TheSewingChannel I figured it out! I cut the directional fabric into 3 pieces: 1 for the flap, 1 for the front, and 1 for the back. Then I sewed them back together so they are essentially one piece of fabric. The seam between the front and back become the middle line that you drew. I then connected the lining piece and proceeded as directed in the rest of the video. It worked like a charm.
      There are seams that make it a bit bulky, but since I used batting and quilted it, it's really not noticeable.
      By the way, my fabric was a repeating pattern of rows of rectangles, each of which frames a different bird. So they had to be right side up.
      But I forgot to put the strap in while sewing the seams up. Now I'm figuring that out. LOL

    I am confused. You say one Fusible Fleece 20.50" x 9.5". Yet, you show one piece of fleece that may be 41". Help!

      I’m confused a little, you only use 1 piece of fusible fleecing 20.5 x 9.5. It looks like it covers length of lining and outside fabric- no biggie. The tutorial is great and I love the cross body bag. I’ve already made one and I’m making more. I absolutely enjoy this channel.
