Yes, You do need a Masters degree to teach at a University level. Not sure where you got the stats on art professors in animation, but the ones that I know have worked at Pixar etc.. Also if you look at the technical directors and other directors at Pixar, many of them have Masters degrees in computer science, Film, etc.. But I wouldn't recommend a Masters in Animation.Don't forget about one of the co-founder of Pixar: Edwin Earl PhD in Computer Science. Education is good for higher roles like director etc unless you are super talented and knowledgable in many areas of tech and art. Also the inventor of SpongeBob, He was a marine biologist and later went to get an MFA in experimental animation from CalArts.
