Dustin Gee had this amazing ability to make himself look like his impressions as well as sound like them. Robert Mitchum, Basil Fawlty, Larry Grayson and Russell Harty are amazing ! Sadly missed.
Dustin Gee a truly talented and much missed star of showbusiness. His Robert Mitchum impersonation was the best that I have ever seen, even today 30 years later no one else has even come close. I loved this guy's act he was brilliant.
Because nobody has done a Robert mitchum impression for at least 30 year's, Apart from him vaugely looking like him and pulling off his facial mannerisms, he didn't impersonate his voice at all and Les Dennis sounded like Les Dennis in Every impression he did
@@alberttatlock5237 I think that was half the joke; Dustin knew he couldn’t do a good vocal of Mitchum and decided to embrace it as a punchline I’ve also noticed that everytime he did the look he always laughed hard after; I think that he had to stretch his face out after so much that when he was in the impression he couldn’t do anything but look like Moody Mitchum 😂
I always remember what sad story it was that after working hard for years to be a success, Dustin Gee should die just as he had made it. I had forgotten though what a fantastic impressionist he was, many people can do voices, but he could change his looks to such an extent that it was hard to remember what he actually looked like,
My dad was a guitar player and worked for Dustin. Dustin loved the weed. Dad pissed himself seeing dusting rolling a massive splif lol. He called them Jazz Woodbines
I cannot get all this Les Dennis bashing, a double act is exactly what is says on the tin (i know i have been in a few), For one to shine takes the chemistry of a partnership to bloom... They were both fantastic and had great love and affection for each other, you can feel it in the air when they perform together... I bet you Dustin loved working next to Les, its called teamwork, Les did his bit and set the bullets up for Dustin, and i actually think they were the best double act ever, only tragedy stopped them reaching fruition.... Dustin's Mitchum was the best impression in history... Fact.
They were a great duo - saw them when I was young in a triple hatter show on Blackpool North Pier (I think) - these two, Cannon & Ball and Lena Zavaroni. Those were the days :)
Thanks for Posting, when I was young, my sister, my Parents and I saw the Late Dustin Gee and Les Dennis in a summer show at Great Yarmouth and Scarborough, RIP Dustin Gee, saw Les Dennis in Panto in Nottingham last year, and he was very good in this, I thought that his Impressions were spot on also.
A rare talent Les Dennis has. It must be really difficult to do all those impressions and have each one uncannily sounding exactly the same. Amazingly talented man.
@ Francis Artanis wow you must be one sad act yourself, belittling someone elses work. i bet you don't do anything on stage... and amounted to a lot less than les
I think Les Dennis’ appeal was that he was young, nice looking and doing impressions of pop stars and celebrities of the time…not politicians or ancient movie stars as some of the older acts were doing He’s actually a very good actor; saw him as Uncle Fester in the West End version of Addams Family
I remember being about 5 years old and thinking these two were hilarious and then feeling sad that Dustin had died. First time rewatching it at 42 and I can now say their humour spanned the ages. Very funny.
Dustin was good and never achieved his full potential when his life was cut short. As for Les Dennis....I have never understood how someone can get so much telly work with so little talent.
Dustin Gee...G 4 Genius...He was pure funny his facial exspressions were just hillarious...Les Dennis nothing without Dustin...but still a les dennis a gentleman lovely genuine man...
They were due to appear at Great Yarmouth to do the Summer Season the year he died (this was when it was still a booming live theatre town)...and sadly Dustin Gee passed away in the January (If I remember correctly Les Dennis bravely carried on the performance on his own for a bit)...Really sad as they were the rising stars of that era...the seaside and variety shows are things of the past we'll probably never see to that scale again!!! :(
les just sounds the same whoever hes meant to be doing , dustin gee not only has the voices bang on but the mannerisms as well ,he is a comedy great that never was sadly he had the makings of a decent actor as well . im sure hed have ditched les before too long
Les is one of the most multi-talentless entertainers that this country has ever produced and Dustin Gee taught him everything he knows. Even at the aged of 9 when I watched this first time, I knew it was complete dogmince, the absolute pits.
Dustin Gee was another level completely, absolutely amazing. I really do think he would have gone on to be a comedy film star in Hollywood, maybe even also acting in serious roles.
now this is fantastic just the sort of thing ive been after 80s comedy. is there any of think it was called the laughter show with les dennis and dustin gee on here im finding them very hard to get hold of as well as full shows of little and large as well. and a bix thx u to who ever put this up great work.
It was a very dark day for Light Entertainment when Dustin Gee sadly passed away - had he lived, I think he would eventually have had his own Saturday night show.
Dustin Gee died far too soon at 43 but did himself no favours. I once knew a nurse who attended him in hospital after his first heart attack. She had seen him in a pub drinking and smoking and played hell with him because a lot of people had worked very hard to save his life. Sadly he didn't heed the warning signs.
He had dilated cardiomyopathy - my father had the same (very serious) condition diagnosed in his 40s, and immediately had to stop work and give up drinking/smoking. Dustin obviously felt he couldn’t (…or just wouldn’t) slow down - very sad.
Further to some of the comments below - yes, this must be the episode where Tommy Cooper died. He was on shortly before Les and Dustin (possibly Howard Keel was on in between). According to Les, they were standing in the wings watching with Tommy's son when Tommy collapsed. A member of the production team asked Tommy Junior if this was part of the act, but he said his Dad had a chronic bad back and couldn't have sunk to the floor like that if he'd tried. At that point, the show frantically cut to a commercial break, and Les and Dustin assumed it would be cancelled. But to their horror, as paramedics worked on Tommy at the back of the stage, the commercial break ended and Les and Dustin were told to go on and do their act. Watching this with all that in mind puts a slightly different complexion on it all....
Les said in his memoirs that how they managed to get through their set he’ll never know Afterwards the shock sunk in and they both were physically sick and in tears at losing their hero
Dustin really was very good wasn't he? Not just the voices, but the mannerisms and the ability to actually "look" like the people he's impersonating. Les isn't bad, but against Dustin he sort of pales a bit.
I thought the impressions they did were great. It's already been said, but Dustin's Basil Fawlty and Larry Grayson were amazing. Some great ones from Les as well, with John Inman and his classic Mavis from Corrie. I still remember the day Dustin Gee died. Very sad and at the height of their fame. RIP Dustin x
I saw Dustin Gee with the Rockafellas at the Wild Man pub on the A64 at Tadcaster in the summer of 1961, we were returning from a firm's annual trip to the seaside (Brid that year). Happy memories. Great show.
Dustin Gee was a True Star as Les Dennis Is.this was the Royal Variety Show Tommy Cooper Passed away at Her Majestys Theater Les And Dustin came on just after Tommy Had Collapsed True Variety Stars Who will never Be Forgotton
Watching dreck like this, it really makes me appreciate what the likes of Rick Mayall & Jennifer Saunders did for British comedy soon after.....then Russel Brand came on the scene and back down the toilet it went.
Very true. Although this is 1984 so Rik was well on the scene anyway. There will never ever be anybody else as funny as Rik Mayall. Russell Brand is just painful to watch. I have to switch off when ever I see him.
Was this from 1984 'Live From Her Majestys' ...They'd had to cut to a commercial break and Jimmy Tarbuck had just filled in (for Tommy Cooper who had ,had a heart attack and passed away live on stage) before introducing this part of the show and they'd to go on knowing...that Tommy Cooper had died. Very sad....
No, this isn't the night Tommy died at Her Majesty's. I have that unfortunate episode on an old VHS. Les and Dustin were indeed the next act on, and performed a similar routine to this one, but they did it in front of the safety tabs which were pulled down during the unplanned commercial break, leaving them with only two feet of stage to perform on. Jimmy introduces them after a minute or two of patter, then Les and Dustin come on, then Jimmy comes back on and throws a unplanned spot of a few minutes. There was then a planned commercial break, during which Tommy was taken from the stage. The show they returned for its final part, now with the main curtain able to be raised, starting again with Jimmy doing a few minutes of random gags before Howard Keel comes on and does a couple of numbers.
But Dustin is clearly far superior. Whoever said that Les just does Les doing Welsh or cockney or whatever is dead right. Les's Delboy is unrecognizable until he mentions Rodney and the van. Dustin's OF&H Grandad is uncanny.
I saw them in panto in Southport the day before Dustin died. I remember being very cut up about it when i heard, i hadn't experienced a death being so close before
Seems by some comments on here that good taste has gone away, these two were brilliant in there day and still made me laugh, not like some of the lame rubbish that is around now, there is some quite good stuff now but mostly crap..
Yeah I think Tommy Cooper is still behind them, I'm sure I read somewhere that Les Dennis could hear them trying to bring Tommy Cooper back round, must of been a hard night for everyone
Les Dennis sounds the same with every impersonation he does, reminds me of Mike Yarwood, rubbish. Dustin Gee looks and sounds like everyone he does, such a shame he died so young.
@Mincy8000 -both were mustard,There was an occasion in bormouth when both came in to me and the wifes chalet, emptied the mini bar and then proceded to do the hot dog dance brass as you like. Some knob on him Gee it has to be said.
Is this the show that was just after Tommy Cooper Collapsed on stage? Not sure where this is. But it kind of explains it being a bit tough in places if it was.
according to Tarbuck the curtains were still closed and they had to go out infront of the curtains so that they could move the body away (read his autobiography) - this performance shown here is clearly not in front of curtains
I was 7 years old when he died but remember seeing them both on stage in Blackpool during a summer holiday. Does anyone know the years they played there? I'm guessing it was just 1984 and 1985?

Yes. An actor who got there through talent, not box ticking.
I had no idea just how good Dustin was... what a legend..
Watched with the sound off. So many still instantly identifiable
Dustin used to entertain us at the Windmill at Colchester in the mid-70s. He was one of us and totally genuine! One of the best! Lovely man!
Lovely to see this , it serves as a great reminder of just how good Dustin Gee was , what a shame and what a loss !
Good at what? Crosswords? Chess? Not sure how this qualifies as comedy.
Wow I'd never seen this before. That is one amazing John Cleese impression
I remember seeing Dustin Gee live back in the early 80s and he was brilliant: much better than he was on TV.
