“Am I being fitted for a dress, or am I going under construction for a building of a dress?” “Both” I don’t remember what book it was I read, but that quote fit for a few outfits, and seems to fit for this imagery.
Gods, I don’t remember the book. I read it years ago. It was some sappy romance book, not quite one of those Harlequins romance stories, but close. That quote was from the heroine being fitted for a gown for her debut and the underpinnings were made of thin pieces of wood to hold the boning in place, with silk being the support, hence the construction comment. I just remember the two instructors of fashion (one man and one woman) giving the answer of “both” and proceeded to burst out laughing. Wish I could remember the book for you, but it was over 20 years ago and four moves ago, so it’s long gone. My apologies…
The scene in which her sister came to her, the night before; the Bed sheet had also 2 dragons… and she was laying down with her sister.. meaning they both are gonna face the dragon
It called symbolism not easter eggs 😅. An Easter egg is usally in reference to something or someone else completely unattached and outside of that particular story. For example it there was a hidden 11 somewhere in the film referencing her time in stranger things that would be considered an Easter egg. 🐣
We watched damsel the other day and my parents and i were discussing how uncomfortable the wedding outfit seems and like thats purposeful. This movie was so well done and it was really really good.
Fun fact...there is actually sort of an original version of Beauty and the beast, called Eros and Psyche, which, with the Dragon motives, that also appear there, I would dare to Venture they mightve also used that as an example...
This isnt an easter egg. An easter egg would be her nickname being el since she played character with that name. An easteregg would be a reference to the enola holmes stories. What is being described here is simply structural storytelling with world building. But I'm glad people really took those lessons seriously in english classes where they find more meaning than the author intended, so things like the ones described here could be placed intentionally

A busk was not used "to keep women standing upright". A busk is part of the structural support of a corset or set of stays, busks also provide shape to the corset or stays depending on the look one is trying to achieve, like underwire in a bra as corsets and stays are early forms of bras. Like a bra a properly fitted corset should not be uncomfortable, many forms of busk are very flexible while some are not and the same holds true for different types of bras, some are soft and comfortable and some are more rigid and structured. Please stop spreading misinformation about corsets, stays and the busks used therin.
I think you misinterpreted the use of “them” in her sentence. She was referring to keeping the stays upright (structural support), not the women. Ambiguity in language is tough though 😅
@@haileydykstra659no chickatita was making a video full of statements about historical costume that were uninformed at best. The busks also would not have been hard enough to hurt anyone. They were made of wood or occasionally baleen but both could be accidentally broken by a girl bending at the waist instead of the hips. If you tried to sharpen it or poke something too hard it would just break. There’s a historical piece that was given from a brother to his sister, it was engraved as many were, “To my beloved sister, and don’t break this one”. If the dress and it’s destruction wasn’t a main set piece people wouldn’t be so bothered by it.
@@haileydykstra659 Please explain to me how I in any way misinterpreted the usage of "they" and "them" when the exact wording used is "they would put them in women's stays to keep them standing upright" so "they(referring to tailors and Mantua makers) would put them(busks) in women's stays to keep them(women, based on context clues of the next words used) standing upright", no part of that sentence means "to keep the stays upright" as stays do not stand, people stand. While the sentence is deliberately worded in a way that is clearly meant to be misinterpreted, I am also taking into account the unbearably common myth that corsets and stays were used to hold women up. Unless I have been englishing incorrectly for my entire life in a way that isn't on purpose. I would also like to add to someone else who commented that historically, busks could be used to conceal daggers, poison, jewelry, momentos, and various other things. They could be removable, but not always, usually made from wood but sometimes metal. Typically steel busks are closure busks rather than solely support busks and are not removable, the wooden busks are not fragile and not something that could be broken by bending over, that is also a myth, it was made to help provide structure and support to the outer layers of garments, which could be very heavy depending on the standard of fashion for the time, as well as providing support in the same way that bras provide support so wooden busks needed to be fairly sturdy and by themselves could be used as a weapon for a few solid hits before breaking, corsets and stays are also surprisingly stab resistant. Bernadette Banner, Morgan Donner, Jill Bearup (addressing the stabability of corsets, usage, wear), Abby Cox (has a 12 hr tight lacing test), Snappy Dragon, Nicole Rudolph, and Kaz Rowe(discusses cycling corsets and corseted people in sports) all have long form videos about corsets and stays which are extremely informative while also being enjoyable to watch. Fashion historians are out there and working hard to break the misconceptions we hold about our ancestors, please give them the respect of refenceing them and their hard work instead of continuing to spread misinformation pushed by media corporations and television shows. Thank you.

I feel like elodie is like a bird at first she's free and then moved from one gilded cage to the next it then brings to mind the birds the dragon sets on fire as if to embody all of the damsels that came before her because elodie is the only bird that makes it out of the cave alive and fixed the thousands of mistakes made by the royal family and by the end of the movie the sweet innocent bird turns into a fire breathing dragon and became her own hero like (chefs kiss)
Actually, the maids knew that she was going to get through off the mountain so they put that light and sold that’s a little bit and put it in there so she survives but then they both got like two and then they stopped. They both got angry and then he started it to kill people, but Millie Bobby Brown and the Dragon came friends and killed the evil queen.
I couldnt make it out either and ive seen the movie 😂😂 But to explain what i think he meant and correcting it. (SPOILER..but not really) The maids didn’t know she would survive. They just knew what was coming and they possibly tried to help her in a small way by giving her a dagger (but its never maid clear if its just part of the dressing ritual) as for the egg light, i think that was like one of those “scented rocks” type of thing that she lit on fire, so i don’t think it was planned to be used as a light source, since it was just normal aromatic jewelry. Girl ends up in cave, girl uses resourcefulness in cave with cave items to make her way through avoiding dragon. Learns history, Outsmarts the dragon, she comes back to make sure the princes wedding is lit 😎 😂 and then goes home after the rager.
@@twinrovasheikah5940the “dagger” is a busk it was likely made of soft wood or baleen. It would have broken immediately if she had tried to sharpen or poke anything with it.
The costumes in the movie are amazing until she starts to suddenly look like a spirit halloween character while in the cave, all that work for her to end up with a spooky witch dress and dark eyeliner like it's 2012
I still need someone to explain to me why she cut her hair. At that point she’s already climbed up the huge crystal cave with her hair the same length that was free, no issue, so I just don’t see the justification of doing it in a story sense.
I mean it’s a fantasy story. While there are definitely fantasy stories that try really hard to be as historically accurate as possible, the only requirement is that they take inspiration from real historical time periods for their setting. They obvs took very heavy inspiration for the dress but that doesn’t mean it needs to be 100% accurate, as they’re not portraying a real historical story or time period.
@@KS-tp1um ok riddle me this. How did she sit or bow if the hoop skirt was so ridged that it had to be put on over her head? If the busk was that hard why didn’t it damage the silk busk pocket in the stays? The dress is a main character in this movie having it badly made is a problem for the story.
@@KS-tp1um the busk is another issue. They were made out of whale baleen or wood (sometimes ivory but never metal) and were very breakable. You could break your busk by bending at the waist instead of the hips. If you tried to sharpen it or poke someone with it, it would break. The nicest ones were made of ivory, but to sharpen ivory you need tools or it will break.
