I saw a video where a lady used a square container and a rag on the edge (one of the corners) to catch drips. I haven't tried any bubble technique myself. You did wonderful work and teach well. The shape of that bowl is so beautiful.
I also teach high school ceramics and I love your style it reminds me of my studio. I did this bubble technique with my students. When we were playing around with it we got a lot of drips rather than bubbles. I had the cup tilted but it didn't matter. We had success too but it was pretty inconsistent. Did your students struggle with this at all and if so did you find a solution? Thanks!!!
We did not come across that issue. Perhaps do not blow the bubbles as hard or use more soap. We are all about refinement. I leave it up to the students to keep experimenting until they find their desired results.
Hai! this video is old but ill try my luck anyway ahah I did this technique and when the bubbles pop, the lines were hard, like it was not hard paint. Btw thanks for the advice on the best angle to blow, i was doing it wrong xD
Do you ever use glaze or only underglaze? After blowing the bubbles onto the pot, do you put on a clear or other glaze on top? Once it is dry of course.

I have not. You should try it and let me know!
Is it better to put a white glaze before blowing the bubbles on or just blow the bubbles on after the first fire?
Up to you! You could use any base color underglaze. We are using Laguna BMix clay here so it is already pretty light in color.
Do you rinse it before glazing and firing?
We always rinse bisque ware in our studio. It gets dusty in here. We did not rinse again after the bubbles tho. Dip in clear and fire!
