The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Paul said he was very honored by this cover of his song. It’s in the book Many Years From Now.
Holy smokes!! Ella Fitzgerald COMPLETELY transforms this song into a swinging masterpiece!! (The talent this woman had--indescribable!! NOBODY has or will ever approach her artistry and brilliance!!)
1st class all the way. She has grace, elegance, poise and beauty all wrapped up into a gorgeous package!
She made it into a whole new song.
A good song is always good. She recognized it.
I bet John and Paul were amazed that the First Lady of Song was a Beatles fan herself.
Let me just say, what a talented lady she is/was.
The greats including, the incomparable Ella , are so open minded. And yes she put her special and unique touch to this song.
Love this version! - and I’m a Beatles fan. And the crane/dolly in shot toward the end of the song is why I love 1960s TV -
That voice and that dress; ASTOUNDING 👏🏾👏🏾💐🌹!!
Very Good! I usually don't like covers that changes too much the original song, but this version is pure talent!
Interestingly, the era that she first grew in as a singer was all covers. Literally 10 different bands would all record different versions of the same song, and multiple recordings could be hits at the same time. The whole bit of artists performing their own work was more of a 60s onward thing.
This made Lennon and McCartney so proud.
Fabulous arrangement by Johnnie Spence. The studio recording was recorded at Abbey Road with George Martin.
It would have been nice if arrangers and the great CBS Orchestra conducted by Ray Bloc would get some credit on these great jazz performances.
Absolutely! In one show, Ray and the orchestra had to perform jazz, classical, rock and roll throughout the run of the show.
Ella jazzing up the Beatles! Wow! 🤩
Yeah, it might have gotten some headbangers in jazz earlier.
Yes..great arrangement.
The Greatest voice in American Music in my opinion.
Immortal goddess and unforgettable Jazz singer, she will always be remembered in the world in any homage to American music.
I own the Ed Sullivan dvd set..haven't watched it in a few years..time to pull them out. These are great.
She was one of Sinatra's favorite singers.
Thank you for including the introduction by Ed! Really appreciate it and Ella’s music is timeless!
I had no idea how good this would be. Wow!!!!
a great song plus a great singer!
The voice, the dress ♥️♥️
The Beatles must have been floored by this 😀❤
Just listen to that voice...... absolutely superb.
What a Talent! What a voice! Ella, we sure could use you here on Earth, today. ✨
Have a listen to Samara Joy... Ella would be proud!
@@pjprythms How wonderful!
An actual earthy female, vocalist. Throw away the demonic rap, and flood the world with healing music for our younger Souls.
Swing it Ella!
Wow. She sings the hell out of that little tune. Makes you realize that it is a BLUES song. I'll bet young pre- Sir Paul flipped when he saw this.
Paul's songs were covered by many Black American singers in the 60s! he was living in such a crazy tornado at the time, I HOPE he saw this!
He did comment on this version saying he was particularly honoured. Perfect showcase of how far a good song can get !
Swing it sister!
Can't buy me love is my favorite The Beatles' song, but Ella Fitzgerald's cover is better than original.
Love her interpretation! ❤
great version of a great song
Ella sings the Beatles!
Thats the true diva.
Her voice alone speaks for herself *no pun
I loved Ella Fitzgerald..this is the sweetest. Thank you Ed Sullivan for all the joy and diversity you brought to us back then.🎼🖤
A God given talent. She’s stunning.
Awesome. Absolutely love Ella's interpretation.
Best version Ever!!!!! Oh my... Sorry Beatles, I adore this!! Oh and Mr. Ed's hippie beads too, this is quite a video!!!!😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩
never be sorry! they wrote a great song, and she chose it!
Everything is better with Ella and some jazz
best voice of all time
She could make any song her own - we'll never see the likes of Ella again...
Have a listen to Samara Joy... Ella would be proud!
I don't believe that I found this channel! I searched for that place for much time
I like the way Ella sings,SCATS, and sways
Amazing...
Amazing!!! The best!!! ❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Superbe reprise! Cette Dame est un oiseau!
Ella Ella 💗
ED SULLIVAN WAS THE UNITED STATES TV SHOW.
WoW!... Wonderful...❤️
Was hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
This was actually very good.
HUH? It's Ella, how could not expect the best. SMH
That's actually quite ridiculous. Ella could sing anything. That's why she earned the title "First Lady of Song". Not First Lady of Jazz or First Lady of American Standards, but First Lady of Song. Her musicality was just that profound.
Sorry for the critique. But I had just come from a Dionne Warwick video where she was singing Hard Days Night. It was horrible because it deviated from the original so much, I couldn't understand what song she was singing. Aretha put her own spin on this and was true to the original at the same time.
@@apocalypseplough8089 Hahah well I do understand. Dionne could never do the things either of those women could do musically.
Perfection
She looks like the word "Confidence".
my love! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

That’s how to own a song
Wow ❤️❤️❤️
Go Ella, Go!!•• I love it!!!!!!
👌
Never heard this but good version
So damn cool
Already added to my car wash jams.
Uau!!!!!!!
la grande ella .
No.1 Ella - forgot about the rest...
I would Love to see a Reaction Video from Paul or Ringo
Can you upload something by THE MCGUIRE SISTERS?

UWAH!!
I was born like 30 years too late.
Does Ed have hippie beads on? Lol
He does! It is hilarious!!
Love the beatles, love ella, dont see the point of this, one of the vids I'll only watch once

Is Ed a hippy now?
Like Pat Boone doing Little Richard....
Seems like someone bought 12 people love
Money doesn’t buy those diamond ear rings or that Swiss Chalet or the limo driver or the agent and publicity - great artist , great pop tune ( McCartney) - cynicism aside - poverty sure don’t buy anything and the cause of much misery .
That's actually the first time I've heard a 'normal' recording of her voice.
All my vinyls have her sounding grainy due to the equipment of the time. I prefer it to be honest. 'Perfect' voices and recordings just sound generic and boring. People like Macy Grey, Liam Gallagher, the singer from The Animals, Johnny Rotten, Jasmine Thompson, the woman from Catatonia, etc.
