Another surprising voice said to have had perfect pitch was Ricky Nelson, of all people, which is why session musicians held him in such high esteem above his teen idol peers.

Oh, that's just your prejudice, which is fine and sweet that you love her so much. I would say that Julie Andrews and a singer you likely never heard of, Ofra Haza (listen to: Im Nin Alu and You've Got a Friend), have very clear voices... and many more. I think that Karen has a somewhat deep voice and that may have something to do with the appeal for you and why hear her voice as being so rich and clean... I'm not disagreeing with you on that at all, but there are other people with very clear voices. There were times when Whitney's voice rang like a well-crafted bell also. Donna Summer singing Someone Who Will Watch Over Me is very different from Karen's but it shows a different kind of magic that Karen didn't have. Another great voice - Dulce Pontes singing Cancao do Mar.

John Lennon once encountered Karen Carpenter in a restaurant and complimented her on her singing. KC reportedly told those she was with afterward, "he couldn't have meant that". I imagine KC arriving in Heaven in February 1983 and meeting Lennon again there (assuming Lennon "imagined" wrong, of course); Lennon looks at KC with an expression of mild reproof and says "I did mean it, you know, dear..."❤️

Don’t forget Julie Andrews. I’d argue that more people have heard her sing than any other female singer of the 20th century. Generations have seen Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music multiple times. All the Broadway performances all the TV specials, all the stuff with Carol Burnett, singing in various other movies, Grammy awards, Emmys, Oscars, Golden Globes she was part of everyone’s life for decades
I had the pleasure of seeing Ella in Pittsburgh Christmas parade in 2007 and to know that Karen Carpenter and Perry Como, who is from my hometown do a Christmas duo together on Perry's Christmas show! What a treat it was!
I've been in love with these two ladies voices since the first time I heard them both sing. I was astounded to find this video of the them, together. Young as I was, I'm so very grateful that I was around, when they were.

I love both of their music, but they are lip synching here. It gets old, seeing all of these so-called "live" performances that are not at all "live."
@@aboutness How are you doing today pretty ?
Karen, Ella & Aretha... The quintessential female voices of 20th century - thanks so much for sharing Karen & Ella together
Quintessential...That's a Wonderful word.....
and lets add Whitney
Y Mercedes Sosa
Don’t forget Julie Andrews. I’d argue that more people have heard her sing than any other female singer of the 20th century. Generations have seen Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music multiple times. All the Broadway performances all the TV specials, all the stuff with Carol Burnett, singing in various other movies, Grammy awards, Emmys, Oscars, Golden Globes she was part of everyone’s life for decades
Connie Francis was voted the best female entertainer of the 20th century and sold the most records .
Wow! Two of the greatest voices of the last century singing a duet. Goosebumps....
