MrOuchiez *Yeah we are. The Cubs organization said it was not his fault. After they did win the World Series, Steve Bartman received a World Series ring. Bartman chose not do interviews. That is his choice. So many people apologized to him in so many ways, but the simple TRUTH is that you cannot go back and change things. The fans were frustrated at the time. I don't blame them for their frustration anymore than I blame Steve Bartman. Other people had their hands out too. It just happened that Bartman had a glove. End of story. Move on.*

Like it was said in the video, he didn't make the Cubs choke and lose. Every fan who goes to those games hopes a foul ball comes their way. It's instinct to catch it. I hope the media and fans who dragged this guy's name through the mud are ashamed of themselves and hope Bartman eventually found peace after enduring the nonsense and ridicule he didn't deserve for so many years.

Bartman's interference wasn't even the inning-ending out - Juan Pierre doubled with 1 out and Mark Prior was 110 pitches in by the time he threw that infamous pitch to Louis Castillo. Prior led the majors in pitches per start that year, but EVEN with that it just isn't smart to keep him in that game with a 3-0 lead that clinches the pennant. If Prior had come out after 7 IP, I fully believe the Cubs would have won that game.

Steve Bartman and Bill Buckner shared a lot of similarities in each of their situations. Buckner has something terrible happen to him on the biggest stage in sports, and was vilified for it by Boston fans and media alike, and like Dan Patrick said he answered every question and he took the blame for it, and it wasn’t until after they went after his family that he finally said enough, and moved his family to Idaho, away from it all. The fact that he returned to Boston years later, had to be gut-wrenching for him. Bartman never took a dime, never capitalized on the situation, and has never been back to Wrigley since then. I hate it for Bartman , because it took the joy from what he had for the game and turned it into pain and sorrow.

He did the same as any other fan sitting in that seat would have done. Bartman had nothing to do with the Cubs choking. Gonzalez muffed double play was the start of the choke. Gonzalez makes the play the Cubs are out of the inning and chances are they would have gone on to the world series.

Chicago and Cubs fans should really be ashamed of themselves. Compared to them, I actually have respect for Philadelphia fans after that.
I know sports fans in Philly act like children at games and throw stuff, but I've never known them to needlessly ruin a man's entire life just because the team lost.

    • @jeffcanada8897

Exactly so. Philly fans will shout and curse in frustration on the way out the stadium after a losing game, but then it’s over and tomorrow is a new day.

at Yankees stadium first row always the conversation comes up what to do if the ball comes into the stands. this back in the 80's, 90's, 2000's. if the Yankees are at bat we play defense and dont allow a catch by opposing team. if the Yankees are on defense we ALLOW them to catch it come into the stands to make any catch. but I guess in Chicago this conversation doesnt come up. remember Jeter flying into the stands against Red Sox. no one tried to catch the ball. in chicago what was said its human nature to try for the ball. WRONG not when your team is on defense.
