Great video - but I sometimes wanted to get a taxi to a nearby train station (like Staines, from Terminal 5) or possibly Slough, but obviously I'm not going to take a taxi from a rank after they've been through all this waiting - any suggestions?
Certain places such as slough and Staines have a fairs fare scheme. Itâs a fixed fare where the driver gets to come back to the terminal within 75 mins (Staines) 90 minutes (Slough) đđ»

If in doubt, speak with a rank Marshall đđ»
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Ah ok, I would consider that then. Rail and public transport connections to Heathrow aren't the best if you're coming from the South West.
@@TomtheTaxiDriver I was just about to ask you this :) I live in the west end and say i am heading to Chiswick business park. So reading that article you posted, if i said i was going to Windsor, a Driver has 90 minutes to make it back ? Also now with the smart motorway the speed has been reduced but still the same times.
@@andrewclark8630 just get in a taxi and tell them where you want to go, they'll drive you there and you'll pay them. it's not your job to conceive a way to maximise their profits. they take that chance ranking up.
@@cliveramsbotty6077 I don't think they make massive profits. I did actually try a couple of times about 10 years ago, first refused because it's a short distance, second time quoted an outrageous fare to go to Woking.
Tom, my dad was a black cab driver and he used to say kipper season lol He just passed away at the age of 81, cabbing was his life. Thanks for sharing your cab life we us.
I'm SO happy you're allowed to create in-cab content again, Tom! All the best to you in 2022!
Literally the best news I've heard in a long time.
What happened to stop him?
Laws are changing. Soon it'll be illegal to video while driving.
@@JollyRogerTheDodger how can they enforce that? How about CCTV in taxis and dash cams?
Surely not? Cctv is getting more popular in cars. And most cans and taxis have cctv in them anyway
For a 4+ hour wait, I'd expect continuous use of that rank until the time that I decide to finish that day! The fact you only get 2 or 3 fares out of it (at best) just seems outrageous to me...
Thought the same thing. Your wasting those hours, when fares can be made.
Totally. Itâs nuts. I reckon those Heathrow drivers canât be arsed to work very hard. Plus thereâs Uber at the airport. I got one the other day and the driver said he hardly had to wait at all.
you could make money by doing local runs only from a dedicated rank
Fabulous to see the driving videos back Tom, Iâm glad that TFL and yourself have worked out a compromise! To be honest I think your videos are a great advert for the cab trade. When Iâm in London itâs the easiest way to get around. đđŒ
To be honest until I watched your videos I had never been in a cab whilst in London. Gave me the confidence to get one knowing the work you guys put in and not having a fear of being ripped off. And the journey was lovely. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Stuart
So glad you can record as usual again. You were literally the reason that I started relying less on Ubers in London.
@Fred Arthur so are cabs that refuse fares unless you spend ÂŁxxx with them. No sympathy if they go to the wall then.
The feeder park queueing system is very interesting and clever. I didn't know about it before.
Yesss the POV in-cab videos are back. Keep these coming Tom and well done mate
So glad the in-cab videos are back. Really informative, and they've made me stop using Uber when in London. Just wish our local cabs were proper taxis rather than those horrible converted Peugeot vans!
They actually arenât converted, believe it or not. Probably a Rifter or a Partner tepee, weird names, typical french
So happy to see in cab stuff! And great to see you at Heathrow. I was a airport driver for 5 years but unfortunately the way things have been ive had to pull out. I do a school run now Monday-friday and deliver food on the weekends.. we do what we have to do! Really enjoyed the video. Can't wait for some more in cab!
Nice to have these videos back great that your allowed to do these again keep up the good work Tom!!
Itâs like a history lesson as we go as well . I go London with my mum every so often and itâs so interesting for someone who lives in the countryside .
Great to see you back behind the wheel again Tom, I look forward to seeing what you bring us next!
Loved this one Tom. Great to see the driving videos back!
Hi Tom. Such a pleasure to be on board with you once again. The music mixes very well with the content. Always looking forward to your next video!
Honestly brilliant to see the in-cab videos again! Great vid as always Tom :)
Such a treat having these videos back.
This popped up on suggested videos and I Love that your doing this! I manage a private hire company and the public just donât realise what you guys as drivers have to go through to just try earn min wage! Iâm sure itâs very different around London than where I am but the basics remain the same. Keep up the great content x
Loving these videos. I find them so therapeutic to watch
So glad to see you back with driving videos! đ
Great video Tom, so good to see some driving POV back again. I like the day in the life of style too
More great content Tom. All the best for this year!!!
Hi Tom. Great to have the driving videos back đ
Hi Tom so pleased that we can see you again live!! đ keep them coming, you are inspiring me to go out and do the knowledge! đ
Sooo glad you made this!! It was so informative. I just thought you just turned up there sooooo so much the public donât see or understand. God bless âïžâ€ïž
Just wanted to add that you do more for cabbies as in informing people than most councils do!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Great to see you back on the road, looking forward to more videos & great you can record again as per before. :)
Love these style of videos Tom! Interesting insights all around.
Oh, and that book by Craig Taylor is great! I thought it was a lot of fun, as a foreigner.
This was such an interesting video!! I never thought Iâd learn about something like this, but really appreciate you making this đđđŒđ€đŒ!! All the best to you man
Love the in-cab content / a day in the life type videos, can just switch them and listen along
Another great video, nice to see videos back in the taxi
Quality video once again. Top work Tom đđŒ
Love your videos, always look out for you when diving in and about London, love the new format your doing off your cabbie days too
Glad to see you back at it! đȘ
Great video glad you can do these sort videos again. From fellow taxi driver in Plymouth đ
New subscriber here! Came across your channel randomly, but love the content. Very refreshing to see a Cab driver's day to day routine.
Keep up the good work.
New subscriber. Great videos and you're everything that's great about London cabbies - polite, professional, knowledgeable and friendly.
This style of video and editing I think is the best I've seen of yours yet.
Awesome video! one of my favourite so far
Another good informative video Tom.
Kipper season is always incredibly hard.
The reality of it is that once you take your overheads out the dayâs work of wages drops below minimum UK wage.
The upside of self employment is itâs freedoms and the downside is the lack of trade in January and February coupled with Covid restrictions.
Four hours plus the fare to Sloane Street is on average half of a working day.
I hope trade picks up for you.
Good to see you back in the cab again, I like all of your uploads but in the cab is particularly interesting đ
Thanks đ
Nice to see Tom the taxi driver doing a day in life again can't wait for a another day in the life video
Like this sort of video alot. Glad to see then back on the channel.
I echo all the comments its great to see the in the cab videos are back Tom,
And the smooth jazz music back đ
Good to see u back tom
Magic wee videos. Good on you mate.
Hope you make a fortune
Great video Tom. Really enjoyed the content.
Tom your a good man .trying to do your best .I love watching london with you .what a city âș
Hi Tom
Totally agree with u about the Euston underpass, since Iâve been out Iâve never used it.
Brilliant Tom, really enjoyed that đ
Fascinating! Glad to see that not only Brisbane Queensland and around driversâ donot use their indicators. I would rather pull teeth out of the mouth of my Hen, than drive a taxi. Kudos to you, good Sir!
wow, never knew about the long waiting for drivers! great video
Omg so great to see you driving video again tom that makes me so happy there so interesting and gives us a show of London areas too pls pls keep them up thanks so much wish u loads of pick ups takecare
Thank you Gordon đđ»
Fantastic video Tom.
Lovely vlog mate!! Top editing too. đ
Loving this content. Greetings from Barbados
Wow, that was fascinating to watch. I had absolutely no idea it worked like that!
Love that this randomly popped up on my CZcams feed, nice job Tom and loved seeing into the world of London cabbies which I've never really known much about! +1 sub
Fun fact, I'm usually watching aviation videos so I guess the use of the word Heathrow in the title made CZcams decide to send your video my way đ
Thanks Matthew!
Maybe CZcams just lumps it in as transport, who knows, I do love the odd aviation video from time to time
Excellent job black cab good quality đđŸđđŸđđŸđđŸ
Great vids, love the little touches little showing the route you took drawn on the map with a marker so we can visualize it too, good stuff keep it up
Thank you
I donât know why I have just watched 15kmins of your driving about ! But I enjoyed it and now you have a new Subscriber!!!
Loved the video where you played âthe Getawayâ greetings from a Amsterdam taxi driver
that's a great idea to have multiple rows that can move forward, so you're not constantly budging forward every minute. but after waiting there so long hoping for a rich tourist to a central london hotel, what if a passenger gets in and asks for somewhere just round the corner? as a passenger i always hated using a taxi rank in case my destination was just round the corner and the cabbie hated me.
Short journeys allow the cab driver to skip the queue when they come back around, he mentions this in another video
Fantastic video mate very interesting ranking system at Heathrow âââââ
Tom so happy your back... maybe next time more airport pickup 's
Just found your channel pal and very informative and entertaing this video was!
Keep well mate
Thanks for video, very interesting. Great to see you again.
Thank you too!
It's nice to see about Heathrow Airport, I had no idea about the queuing system, they have the same in Miami cruise port.
Thank you for a good vlog.
I love these pov videos Tom đđ
I'm a taxi driver in Hamilton, Scotland. We do alot of hires to Glasgow Airport but unfortunately, we can't rank up there as Glasgow City Taxis have the right to do so. Frustrating at times but there is always a chance to pick up a hire on the way out who don't want a Glasgow Taxi.
Woo-hoo!! I'm back in the cab riding with Tom in my favourite city!
Itâs a great place! Thanks for watching
Great video tom Liam in ireland keep them coming
Really interesting insight.
Great video!
Never realized how this taxi thing works at airport but it doesnât make sense to me why thereâs an âinventoryâ of 4+ hours of taxis waiting idle for the next ride. Whatâs the business model behind this? There must be so much data available that forecasting the actual demand for rides should be easy and should allow for a system with just a minimum of taxis queuing up for the next ride.
Sounds like there's way too many taxi drivers if it even makes sense to sit there for 4 hours for one fare
Oh man he doing it. Glad to see you're back at it again!
What's the starting fare at Heathrow if you have to sit and wait for over 4 hours before you even have a chance of picking up a job?
To be fair you deserve everything you get after doing that knowledge smashed it for life .
Thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching đđ»
Very good Tomđ
Great video Tom .
As a fellow London cabbie , I've just subscribed.
Good on you đ
Thanks Graham. Be lucky đ
Great video as always Tom. Could you perhaps do a city airport video similar to this?
Ooh it's been a while so certainly would need to learn it all again, but sounds like a great idea!
it's much harder to spot people hailing you than i expected. you've got eagle eyes. even when the white arrow points out the fare i cant see them. i used to think taxi drivers were blind whenever one passed me by but it's well hard to see passengers at night
Tom I'm taxi driver in Sunderland love watching your videos classic mt
Tom, another great upload with fab interesting content.
Was Heathrow worth it, guessing it turns out being a very long day for you.
What do other cabbies waiting on the ranks at Heathrow do to while away the time?
How do the cabbies get on with the "mini" and Uber cab drivers?
Talking about underpasses, do you use the Waterloo bridge/Holborn Underpass that used to come out top end of High Holborn?
Great video
Great to see some cab content! Whatever the tfl rules are, stick with them! This is the stuff we've missed!
Brilliant I drive in Taunton I shall watch more thank you
Great video as always, Iâm always on the road on a moped doing the knowledge looking at black cab drivers but never seen you! Maybe one day
Definitely one day! Just depends, if you are an early bird then probably not đ
Thank you for the tour of London streets at night time. Hope to be back in London and Heathrow Airport after 12 years away.
đ
Great video đâșïž
So so pleased to see you've managed to come to an agreement with TFL. I do wonder what the terms of the agreement are, but I suppose that doesn't matter. You are back!
Looks like it's just "mute the audio when there's a passenger" - I can live with that!
Love the new format of you driving and then the interlude with you commenting. BTW how many maps did you go through with the marker đ. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Itâs a laminated map, so just wipe clean đđ»
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Of course!
All this talk of ranks reminds me of the one in my home town, on Haven Green (opposite Ealing Broadway).
That was a nice cruise around. Never had an idea about this Heathrow ranking system.
Thanks! Yea I find the whole system fascinating
@@TomtheTaxiDriver it is and organised too.
Brings back some good memories
Great vid Tom, loving the format of this one. Thanks! Also, can we get an address for that rock cake? It looked banging.
Astral Cafe, Regency place đđ»
So, this is the first video of yours, I've seen... and its great.
I had no idea about the pre-wait zone at LHR. Plus the little history points you mention. All Very interesting.
Lastly, I love yr London Geezer accent. Its exactly what I imagine... when I think of London.
Oh, I'll be looking for more videos from you.
Haha! Thanks! Yea sometimes it does come out thick, itâs actually Essex but Iâm sure a lot of cabbies have the Essex accent rather than London
I'm an uber driver, I could not stand to wait for 5 hours for a job! It's insane, especially if it's a shit fare but whatever works for you mate. Stay safe đ
My dad was a London taxi driver and he packed it in the overheads were to high the cost of a cab is to expensive and there is not enough work to cover all the expenses how ever I take my hat of to you guys for the work of you put in
Great videos
