WHO AM I:
Iâm Tom, a London Taxi driver of 5 years. I also have a keen passion for all things London whether thatâs; history, geography or a good spot for coffee!
WHY DO I MAKE VIDEOS?:
To PROMOTE and PROTECT The Knowledge of London
And to PRESERVE the high standards of London Taxi Drivers
GET IN TOUCH:
Emailing info@tom.taxi is the best way to contact me directly. - ZĂĄbava
I was a taxi driver in woking Surrey for 25 years.. Loved the job... I'm retired now. And still miss the job... I must say. Tom comes across as a very professional driver. A credit to the industry.. Hope he has a long and successful career. Good job
Still miss people asking if you were busy that day?.
Iâm from woking howâd you find ranking by the front of the station (M&S side)? Seen some drivers get funny when queuing up there
All done... cool :)
You did the right thing with the four lads Tom, I am a taxi driver and I would have done exactly the same as you. It's is better to drive away, than feel like you have been taken advantage of. Spot on!
I agree. You're a cab driver, not a market stall to be bartered with.
As a cabbie it's good to hear you little facts about the history of the streets.
Those guys probably spent over ÂŁ50 each on a night out and there haggling you for ÂŁ5 each , let them jog on , don't want or need people like that anywhere near me in the cab .
Can't believe you got to horseferry road and didn't empty your bladder .
When did you finally find a loo đ
i love this "inside the cab" genre. amazing that even after your shift you go home and do yet more knowledge-based work, analysing your own performance that day. do you actually keep a "logbook" of journey start end end points during the shift or do it from memory and video file later? dunno why you might need a logbook but maybe for TFL or the taxman. could be done by GPS automatically nowadays
No log books, but as you say, the meter/card payment usually has a modem attached so that data is somewhere.
I would really like to build some kind of database that shows the probability of getting a job in a certain area. I mean the data is all there, it's just extracting it.
@@TomtheTaxiDriver i was thinking the same thing. get a "big data" analysis done of pickup points and times, correlated with destination profitability to let you know where to hang out and whether it's worth joining a rank at a particular time. the maths underlying it would be easy. but then i figured you guys already do that all in your head anyway based on experience and gut feel, or tip-offs from other cabbies
@@TomtheTaxiDriver would an app that cab drivers pressed buttons for, empty rank, busy area, quiet area be kinda helpful?
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Viggo taxi in Denmark has an app that shows the "hottest" areas in Copenhagen to the drivers. In Oslo Taxi we can see all our taxis on our tablett and can see how many is occupied and vacant in different areas of the city.
I drive taxis in Newcastle and always analyse my day too
It never ceases to amaze me how much you know about the city. The Knowledge really makes London cabbies unique and it's honestly so impressive. Keep it up Tom, love your videos and insight into the life driving a cab in one of the best cities in the world.
Thank you! Every day is a school day and I'm always learning, that includes routes too, not just history đ
The knowledge is why I respect London cabbies so much. I donât use Uber unless Iâm outside London
Tom, if I ever happen to travel to London and spot you in your cab somewhere, I'd gladly pay you 30 quid just to drive me around London for a bit and share your little tour guide facts đ love em, hope at least some of your customers do too!
Definitely đ I do offer tours in the cab also
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Tom, would you happen to have a Web site where we can book tours mate?
@@TomtheTaxiDriver you can adjust that door to fit by the catch đ
lol heâs charges ÂŁ240 for a tour đ
ÂŁ30? đđđđ
Tom I live in South london and I watch all of your videos cos you have inspired me to become a taxi driver in the future
I had almost 40years of it......loved every minute.....greatest job in the world....
These videos always make me feel good seeing places and the city from when I used to live there. Thanks for the joy!
This is one of your best videos for a while. Loved the history lessons, and the insight in to your day. Hope the storm isnât blowing you away, cheers!
Hi Tom I havenât watched these in months but I am happy I saw this one. Thank you for such an in depth look at your shift! Iâm sorry you had to wait so long to eat. Take care please!
I did 12 years in night taxi in the midwest US in a college town. Nowhere near the territory or population you deal with, but the business was steady to busy and I honestly liked that job the best I ever had. Done with it in 2012, when the gig apps ruined the job. I miss it and aside from the sites, what you're describing is exactly what I did in the job. Nobody tested but I had the knowledge for the local area. Great job.
Tom, I rarely go to London, but I Love your videos. It's so fascinating seeing what happens on a shift. I love your presentation style and have watched dozens of your videos since I came across your channel a few weeks ago. This is the first day as a cabbie video I've watched, now off to watch some more! Take care
Great to see you out n about recording your daily experiences, being a cabbie for over 20 years I was surprised how much I enjoy your videos plus your knowledge is exceptional..
Glad you showed them idiots trying to pull a fast one to fenchurch Street & the drunks we have to deal with.
Keep pumping out them videos
Great video Tom! My father is a recently retired cabbie and we love watching your videos together, with your great insight into the job. Top notch editing too, canât wait for more!
Just watched your video,i am in total awe of you and your colleagues ability to learn and use The Knowledge. You really provide a service second to none. This country should not take the taxi drivers for granted you provide an amazing service.
Working in London for most of my life, never imagined getting hooked on Tom the Taxi Driver! Brilliant channel. Weirdly, I find it quite relaxing to watch these videos and all the extra information that Tom gives you about London is such a bonus. Man, keep up the good work!
Nice video mate, we must NEVER lose the black cabs in London or the training you go through.
Thank you, these videos aim to showcase the benefits of The Knowledge and black cabs đ
No more lockdowns will help.
I LOVE how not only you talk about the journey but also talk about all the fun facts about certain places
Nice to see the streets of the city of London is back to normal again. Another reason why I wish to be back in London again soon. Another interesting narrative from Tom as he drives around the many interesting streets of London.
Great insight to the daily life of a London cab driver! Would love to see more of these "talk throughs"! The route, the landmarks (QEII đ€Ł), Iron lung! It's all so interesting for us viewers, keep it up Tom!
Love the knowledge and all the facts that you have for London. Great insight into London and life as a Taxi driver.
Thank you justAddbricks for tuning in again đ, these videos showcase how my brain whirls whilst driving the cab
I love these driving videos so much! So good to have them back.
Glad you enjoy it!
Bloody brilliant video. So much insight into your normal working shift! I hope that you will do many more like this. Really interesting to watch! All the best âș
Came across your channel as a CZcams suggestion wow, I am 52 years old now retired Edinburgh City Taxi Owner and Driver and god did I love this video, watch bits of your other videos and it has brought back happy memories of my 20 years as a black cabbie, had to retire due to heart attack and brain injury, Wish I had never had to retire I loved my job, and before you ask I worked 20 years constant night shift starting 5pm till 5am and was blessed as my dad did the dayshift, Dad is also now retired and 72 years old. Subscribed and Liked your channel, keep the content coming.
What an interesting video into the everyday life of a cab driver in London. We were glued right through till the end. Before Covid hit us, we used to visit London fairly regularly. We live down south. So the bright lights of the city always keep us entertained.
Iâve subbed now, so Iâll watch more đ
Great contentâŠ
Brilliant this Tom, glad you can do these style videos again!
Love this inside the cab working type video. Keep em coming it's a great insight to what a cabbys life is like đđđ
Great Video once again mate, the knowledge and skill you obtain is highly appreciated, keep it up!
Thanks for the tour. Lived 2years in London years ago. Still miss it. Love your city đ
Top content as always Tom, I learn so much history through your vids while being thoroughly entertained.
Love to see fellow cabbies on the job. Great work mate! đ
You have no idea how much I love these videos! Happy Friday
I wish TFL liked your older videos (the ones you had to take down and can no longer show) but another great insight video. Keep up the good work Tom. đ
Tom, recently discovered your videos and loving them. Keep up the good work, and remember the London Cabbies are the best in the world. Knights of the road.
I'm so disappointed you didn't call it Battersea Power Station Station
Never thought of that, would make an very interesting sign!
Came here to say the same thing đ€Ł
Great video! Flying to London in June. First trip since covid started.
Brilliant insight video as usual Tom nice touch to Ascot at the end of your shift
I was on the rank at Caterham in the nineties a chap comes out asks to go to Brighton he said he fell asleep on the train and he was supposed to change at Purley
I quoted him ÂŁ50 I think and he was so grateful gave me his address at Brighton Marina and slept the whole way there bless him gave me a ÂŁ10 tip as well happy days
Another great video! love the history being brought into the video
That was really entertaining, great work Tom!
I love the way you deal with certain situations Tom, an absolute testament to your character. Keep up the great work!
Love these type of videos. Please make more of these.
Love these type of videos, really enjoyed it!
Thanks Tom, I really do enjoy your vids!! Keep them coming my good man âïžâ€ïž
Love these videos, takes me back to living in London without bankrupting myself.
Love watching your videos actually quite relaxing
Great knowledge as always. Well managed with the tricky passenger. đ Appreciated the history of the roads, and enjoyed the Oxford Street history in my trip with you on Wednesday!
Thanks Daniel, really appreciate meeting you and gaining a wealth of knowledge đđ»
Tom...you are an intelligent man. You're knowledge is proof of that mate đ
These are my fav type of vids! Good stuff
Cheers Tom, yet another entertaining and insightful video.
Love it mate - hope allâs well!
Great stuff Tom, loving!
Enjoyed that Tom....always look forward to the weekly newsletter
Another great watch. Well done Tom
That door not lining up would drive me INSANE !
Haven't watched the whole thing, but I know it is going to be a great video!
Loved this ! I haven't been to London for 30 years .Still miss it.
Really enjoyed that vid. I love it when people on CZcams are just going about their day and showing us what they do rather than trying to impress me with some made up bullshit. Liked the way you showed the route on the map along with the footage.
Haha, this is about as interesting as I can make my life
In any Large Metropolitan City you get people who are self absorbed and Have very little regard for people that actually enhance their lives like yourself or the Barista in Pret etc. A London Cabbie sees so much in life. You can meet some of the nicest people ever and in a blink of an eye an absolute horror of a human!!
Keep that camera rolling Tom as youâre doing a fine job as a Cabbie and guide.
Great video Tom, very insightful and interesting
Thoroughly enjoy your content, Tom!
Just found this and I find it curiously addictive already:-) I think you did the right thing with those four blokes as their parting expletive revealed their true nature. Same with the wild one in the middle of the road:-) Fascinating stuff and your banter makes even more enjoyable to watch. Have subbed:-)
I love these videos, Tom youâre a legend!
Brilliant work great to see what goes on during a shift đ đ
Great video and Ascot was a touch! Glad to see another in the cab video mate đ
Thank you Tom , just discovered your channel , I really appreciate the history & heritage as you go along , being a cabbie myself working late , I call Camden ,Shoredich, Clapham the Bermuda triangle !!!
Great video! Really enjoyed the back story on areas too! Cheers
Slightly in awe of what you know....big fan of your channel....and also that amazing screen behind you đŹ....good luck fella...keep swimming
Those bunch of lads that wanted to go to Fenchurch street were so rude man, anyway glad you made a nice ÂŁ400 that day looked busy fair play
Probably your best video yet. Always amazing watching the KOL in action, job by job. If the late lady had got in a private hire vehicle, thereâs no way that a nav would have routed her around the back of the National Gallery like that, hence why Londonâs Taxi drivers will never be bettered. Love the contrast from the Euston to Kings Cross job to the one to Ascot in the end. These videos give students like myself a positive incentive to keep going on the KOL⊠nice one
Cheers Craig! Be lucky mate!
Why couldn't I stop watching this? Really nicely presented channel, thoroughly interesting.
These kind of videos are the most interesting ones, with good commentary and interesting facts! Please, do more of these :)
Thank you sir, yes it's a bit of a balance between history and routes but hopefully I got it right. đ plenty more to come.
Glad you could get back into this type of video after TFL have an issue with the previous filming format.
Good shout for the madness mate I've seen them live what a great laugh and fun music old school ,thanks for sharing that pub they gigged at .
These videos are fantastic mate!
Very interesting. It's great to see into people's lives like this. Many thanks!
Great insight into taxi life thanks Tom
lol the motorcyclist who dropped the food just turned back twice was like no... OH NOOO
Love this living in Australia itâs great being back in the big smoke! đŻđŻđŻ Thanks đ
Another brilliant and very enjoyable video Tom đ đ đ
Another great video like always Tom. It's similar with deliveries for me, I love it when I get a delivery going home! I once got a delivery from Greenwich going to wapping near my home. Cant complain I got paid to go through the Blackwall tunnel
Brilliant, Tom. Interesting as always.
Keep these coming great series
nice to see some life back in the 'ol London
Another great video. Looking forward to more!
Hey tom, I loved that video from start to finish! Please make lots more, I would love to be a black cab driver, but have a young family and doing the knowledge would have me spending so much time from them, but maybe as they grow up I may do, keep up the great videos mate, stay safe.
Hats off to you Tom knowing that knowledge round London
dude for some reasons I did not see a video of yours for so long, just randomly remembered u and Im happy :D
This was enjoyable. More please. Also tips for us not living in London, but sometimes visit.
Great video Tom, especially pointing out landmarks and interesting facts. Well done đ
Many thanks Anil!
Love the facts at the different stops.
Damn Tom we need â em longer
Afternoon greetings Tom.
May i compliment yourself and your peers for your service to the fare-paying public. I have first-hand experience, lasting7 years, of the honesty displayed by your peers during a secondment in the Big Smoke. Every Sunday evening, and Friday evening, i travelled from central London to Kingâs Cross Railway Station to my home in Yorkshire. As we can imagine, i had a detailed knowledge of the route; and i am honoured to say, in the 7 years, not once did a cabbie deviate from the route.
Please continue to serve the public and we are most grateful.
Kind regards.
Thank you Anait! It is regular cab users like yourself that I applaud and thank you very much for your custom đ
@@TomtheTaxiDriverâŠit is an honour and a pleasure to be a customer. đ

Cabbie karma. Love this saying, Tom đđđ» This made me want to visit London again but always remember why my dad, when making a deliver to London from Liverpool, we would leave so early in the morning. Traffic lol Love this insight into your shift. Take it easy out there and stay safe đđ»â€ïž
I used to live right around the corner from that Camden job. 265 Royal College St was a great place to live and fantastic neighborhood.
