    It is an interesting project, but with such a giant button, it would make for a great Amiga Joystick!

      +Larry Bundy Jr Larry I was donated some brand new Quickjoy joysticks from Tim (Artcade). I am thinking of USBifying these up. Fancy trying some Turrican 2 with them :)

      Maybe he next project could be to take that V-Smile controller, and turning it into an Amiga stick. Interestingly the controllers for the console uses the same exact connector as a ps/2 keyboard, and inserting one in will make the console most likely not turn on with it in, and will crash once it's detected inserted in the console. It even had this keyboard and mouse combo accessory for the console with wireless.

    Quite possibly the greatest and most significant thing to happen to V-Tech (other than their recent security snafu).

      +Aergan (Aergan) You wait until you see the final piece, the joystick is awesome, but the joystick + console is something special! At carboot season I will buy up all the consoles I can find and 'upgrade' the broken ones into awesome.

      +The Backoffice I'd love to see this done to those Argos peddled 'TV Boy' units of the late mid~late 90's. I'd contemplated doing one a while ago but I don't have the resources (or time!) as of late. As you're already muddying your hands with V-Tech, it should be your cup of tea ;)

      +Aergan (Aergan) I was recently actually given one of these I will investigate. already opened up a space invaders TV game, but it's tight in there. has a freak microswitched joystick though, that was a surprise!

    Love the passion for the FIRE BUTTON! 2:13

    Will be great to see part 2 Andrew! Looks like its going to be alittle fiddly though?

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  Před 8 lety +1

      It was indeed fiddly, but totally worth it! Everyone who sees it wants it! The end result is a while media centre/retro arcade in a kiddie console!

    I'm trying to map controls with my vsmile controller connected to my laptop. How would I go about doing that?

  • @connormason7907
    @connormason7907 Před 6 lety +1

    Interestingly the V-Smile controller looks as if it has a mini-din connector like those used on the PS/2 interface to connect a keyboard and mouse to a keyboard, though i doubt it could speak the AT protocol or anything resembling a standard keyboard/mouse protocol. If you could find the protocol it speaks perhaps you could wire it up to a Teensy controller or something so it could work on usb.

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  Před 8 lety

      +ΓΞTRO ΓICH Thanks, it's surprisingly good as a Neo Geo controller! The final console is amazingly cool as well. I ordered up more of these sticks just to convert them, they are way too good for a kiddie console.

  • @jessragan6714
    @jessragan6714 Před 4 lety +1

    Okay, hear me out. Is it possible that the proprietary cable of the V-Smile is a slightly modified version of the USB standard, like the original Xbox? If that's the case, it should be relatively easy to modify it to work with PCs, rather than having to open the dang thing and squeeze half of a controller into it?

    Don't buy USB game controllers just to destroy them. Ask your IT department for broken keyboards to take the circuit board out of.

    Aw man, im 15 so i cant solder. Any other way to convert a vsmile controller to a controller to use on a PC for PC gaming?

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  Před 7 lety +2

      Minh Quan it's hard to think of a solution that won't require soldering 🤔 I learnt to solder before 15, just ask your parents. you can do it!

    I know this vid is over 7 years old at this point but here is hoping I can get a response, I am trying to learn how to make a modden controller much like this for my son for Christmas this year, one that could work on PC or modern consoles, and frankly have no idea where to start, I was hoping when I saw this in my recommendations it would be a tutorial on how to but frankly I don't have the knowledge needed to work off of this. Any help on this topic would be much appreciated!
