    GUYS….
Just last month, for the FIRST time, Queen actually had a famous concert of theirs shown in IMAX theatres!
(It had originally been filmed back in 1981 with high HD film that would enable it to be shown in 3D, then the project had “stalled”.)
When the IMAX showings took place recently - it was only for one 4-day weekend - IDK how broadly it was advertised/how many folks were aware of it, so IDK what the attendance numbers were…
HOPEFULLY they’ll run it again sometime, because it’s an opportunity to see FREDDIE MERCURY, LARGER THAN LIFE IN 3D, for only around $20 per ticket!!!🤯

The reason they were dressed up as Women was because a TV Programme called Coronation Street had been going on about Women's Liberation for ages. Queen were taking the micky. NO Freddie Impressionist is anything like Freddie, you can tell that straight away. 'Time Waits For No One' was brought out after Freddie's Death and it is such a Meaningful Song. You should look it up.

Btw. John deacon (the base) wrote the song and roger taylor the drummer insisted they play in drag. ❤
It was a slice of British the life with the grandmother the unsatisfied housewife the schoolgirl and the unmarried very sexually active woman. 😂😂😂

I wish when reacting to these films that reactors would acknowledge the other three band members. Roger, Brian and John. Because Mercury was nothing without the other 3. And visa versa. The four of them are Queen. John Deacon wrote this song.

This is the video that lost the band their American audience! The start is a parody of a long running UK soap, about the day to day hard slog life in a Northern town, hence the person wanting to break free, and not just Freddy's sexuality, as a lot of people thought when they saw him dressed like that. Oh, and Roger Taylor as a school girl is so cute! Queen are still touring, just recently in Japan.

It seems MTV had it out for Queen considering the Body Language video had been banned prior to this one. Some Like it Hot, Milton Berle, Flip Wilson, Tootsie, Bosom Buddies are some comedy drag examples of popular shows/entertainers enjoyed by Americans prior to 1984. The video would likely have been better received if Coronation Street were familiar to Americans thus knowing it to be a character parody. They simply weren’t in on the joke.

Written by John about women breaking free from stereotypes (notice he wrote it without a guitar solo in the middle 🤣). I believe it was the London Ballet with Freddie in the dream/death/rebirth sequence. And the part with the lighted helmets was a show of support for British miners who were on strike at the time. Very interesting video and I absolutely love the guys as the characters from Coronation Street.

This video featured the band dressed as the cast of the popular British soap opera Coronation Street and has Freddie Mercury dancing with members of the Royal Ballet Theatre. Mercury plays a housewife who wants to “break free” from his constraining life.
Although music video is often believed to be Freddie's idea, in an interview with Q magazine in March 2011, when Brian was asked whether each band member’s character in the video was an accurate reflection of their personalities, he answered:
"Of Course! Everybody thinks that was Freddie’s idea because it looks like something that he would love to do but it actually came from Roger’s girlfriend at the time, strangely enough. It was her idea to pastiche the Coronation Street women."
Freddie, although shocked that the others suggested dressing up in drag for the video, doesn’t deny that he was actually dying to dress up in drag, and it was something in the back of his mind.

Thank you...John Deacon, Queen’s bassist wrote this song about women’s lib....the opening sequence references a popular soap opera in the U.K......then we have the reference to a huge miners strike at the time.....see the helmets and headlamps?.....moving on the members of The Royal Ballet performing an excerpt from L’Après-midi d’un faune...by Debussy.....there was a charity gig and the Royal Ballet asked Freddie to dance with them...Freddie said he couldn’t follow their directions...so they just carried him around..Roger’s girlfriend suggested that they dress as women for the video....Freddie said, “everyone thinks that it was my idea...no...the others simply ran into their frocks”......Actually he was asked to model at a Fashion Aid charity show...he played the part of a groom and Jane Seymour played the bride....he lived life to the full...he certainly knew the meaning of the saying “Carpe Diem”......you’ve just got to love Freddie🤩

This was based on a famous British soap, called "Coronation Street".. the guys dressed up characters from the show... (Roger made a pretty cute girl")... it was done for humor... much was made in the U.S. of the "drag"... but it was so common in the UK, nobody thought anything of it... (BTW, written by John Deacon, bassist)... I had mixed feelings about Adam Lambert at first, but when I finally gave him a chance, I saw his talent.. he is awesome vocally.. in a way, Freddie paved the way for Adam to be who he is now.. I think Fred would have approved! appreciate your listen...

Queen just finished a tour in Japan on Feb 14, 2024 all shows sold out and did a North America Tour in the Autumn of 2023 all the shows sold out within one day for both these tours, so they are still out there rocking. This song is a really great one written by John Deacon (bass). The idea for the video came form Roger Taylor's (drums) girlfriend and is a spoof on a British soap opera called Coronation Street. The whole band said that this was the most fun video they ever did. Thank you for your reactions. It is hard to move around when you are glued to the piano like Elton John is. You can't compare Elton and Freddie because they are so different and they were great friends, right to the end.

Great conversation between you guys. Whatever your views on Adam Lambert, the bottom line is he is keeping Queen music alive and he is doing a fantastic job of it. Adam is a very talented person who can express himself freely, he has never tried to be Freddie and has a wonderful voice in his own right. I'm just so glad that Queen is still being heard around the world 😊

  • @Sharon_Clawson

Adam Lambert was picked because of his voice too. He can hit his voice high like Freddie Mercury. But Adam Lambert is his own person and people should respect that. Even though I don’t like Adam Lambert at all but I do know that Roger and Brian choose him from all the other people to carry Freddie’s Legacy. So Queen will continue on for Freddie’s memories. And the future generations will get to know who Freddie Mercury is.

Unfortunately, when “the old men at MTV” banned this video, Freddie Mercury was SO PISSED… He said the band would never tour the U.S. again. (Unless they had a hit song on the American charts first… which is too bad, because it was less likely for a music audience to buy your records if you had zero presence in-person performing/promoting.)
So in the USA, after the band appeared on Saturday Night Live in 1982, American audiences wouldn’t have seen the band “in-person” again until their famous performance on TV at Live Aid in 1985… and then sadly, that would’ve been the last time Americans saw a live Queen performance.

This video got Queen banned in the US because they were in drag and they never recovered in the US until the infamous Bo Rap scene in Wayne's World. As you about know there wasn't a history of drag in the US as there was in the UK, so we in the UK just found it funny but you in the US, some found it disgusting or simply baffled people in the US. They are dressed as characters of British soap Coronation Street and it was actually Brian's idea I think that they dressed in drag for the video.
