  • Dave busts out one of the cooler battle-worn 1911's we've seen yet. The US flag melts in to a darkened modern camp pattern with some laser engraving and accents added along the way. This particular firearm was for a friend of both Dave and Luke's whom is a retired Master Sergeant with the US Army. We ordered a set of milled aluminum grips specifically for this job that we could laser engrave with the insignia and rank that the customer wanted. Dave then engraved the service dates of the customer's deployments and overall service on the slide.
Overall the shop spent about 13 hours on this job. Starting from finding parts to use, design for laser engraving, time spent laying out the order of operations for the 9 or so colors on this job and then all the stencil and spray work. Join us as we show the Cerakote part of the job!

Thanks for the tutorial. Flags have been really giving me a hard time. I think your videos really help understand the process.

Love how you use small amounts of Cerakote 10-15 mils, I went back to cerakote for advanced training back in January, and they we’re having me mix 40-70 mils, and pouring out most of it. I do the same thing. I have some small graduated cylinders (5 mil) I use all the time. Great work, I’m a subscriber

Fantastic series so far. What I’m most interested about here is: you lay down desert verde, tack it out, then blue, tack out, then red, tack out. I would have thought by the time you got to the ‘mud/black mix’ that the desert verde would be way beyond tacked out and this you’d start to have adhesion problems? Is this not the case? Said another way: how ‘cured’ can a color get before you start to have adhesion problems with a subsequent layer added on?
Bonus question: after using your hands with stencils, are you wiping it with a solvent to remove any finger oils?

Awesome! Question, do you fully cure before filling in?

Nice, do the rails and underneath of the slide get blasted and cerakoted or mask off?
