  • The National Resistance Army (NRA) commanded by then rebel leader Yoweri Museveni took over power in January 1986 after a five-year bush war.
However, the new government had to contend with several armed groups, especially in Northern Uganda, sought to also oust it.
One such rebel group was the Holy Spirit Movement led by Alice Auma Lakwena. However, the NRA defeated Lakwena's group in Busoga in 1987.
Gillian Nantume revisited the village Nawanganda village in Busedde sub-county, Jinja district where the peasants recalled the fierce battle.
