  • La Petite Ceinture, which translates to "The Little Belt," refers to an abandoned railway line that encircles the city of Paris. Built between 1852 and 1869, the railway was used as a circular connection for freight and passenger trains, providing a direct link between the city's major railway stations. The railway line stretched approximately 32 km (20 miles) and passed through various Paris neighbourhoods.
By the mid-20th century, the railway line fell into disuse, and the last passenger service ceased in 1934. The tracks remained abandoned for several decades, with nature gradually reclaiming the space. Some sections of La Petite Ceinture have been transformed into public spaces, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy green areas within the city. But some sections remain abandoned, including this one we explored during a rainy afternoon.

The old Petite Ceinture has always been a great draw to me. I'm always trying to explore new sections of it, even parts that are kept behind high fences. I've got a short film on my channel about a different section from the one you visited. This area is near the old junction with Austerlitz Station.

When I was a kid my friends and I would find all sorts of discarted Nazi parafenelia along those tracks and especially around that tunnel which the Germans used to store equipment during the occupation. Rings, buckles, belts, daggers and lots and lots of bullets were scattered and buried all around that area even 40+ years after the war. Brings back memories. Thank you for posting video. 🙏🏼

Thanks for sharing! It's amazing from my perspective as a Canadian to hear about those types of stories so closely related to WW2.

We climbed down to it from street level. There are multiple points of entry.
