    “No they’re not…shut up” oh man, I loved this sentiment.

    I’ve never conditioned a pair of boots of mine in my life…ever, and I’ve been wearing boots my whole life. When they get dirty and scuffed up I wipe them down with a damp cloth and once in like 5 years I’ll brush the welt. As for jackets, some jackets really need it. If they are in good shape you rarely need to condition them, and I’m talking about vintage jackets. There’s also a difference between rehydrating and restoring a topcoat. I try not to buy jackets that are dried out.

      Yeah boots need it less than you expect too. And yes of course there are vintage jackets that need it, but this video is mostly for people who are buying new and modern jackets that absolutely do not need it. If I do a vintage conditioning video, I'll be consulting you on it👍

      @@almostvintagestyle Oh yeah if it’s a new jacket you won’t need to condition it for like 10 years. There are exceptions of course, like if it’s a veg tan jacket and you ride and it got soaked and dried over and over again, maybe then you’ll need to condition but even then it’ll be sparingly.

    nice video! Great info! I can't believe you've only scratched your boots once! How in the heck? I feel like every time I step into a car im scuffing them up. Of course Most of my cars are 50 to 80 years old.

      Thanks! Well I've definitely scuffed them many times, but when I say scratch I mean a full cut

    Not the main topic maybe but I would like to know your toughts about it. What do you think about the Yves Saint Laurent leather jackets? I mean, I just tried it (the biker one) yesterday and I know it's expensive but, it's like the best fit and look that I ever saw 😱. I have a Real McCoy's and this easily surpass that one. I can't find one that looks better that YSL. But what do you think? Maybe I am not an expert and in missing something 😱

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před měsícem

      I think they're overpriced and the product does not feel anywhere near as durable. Also, you can find other brands that fit better than mccoys- Freewheelers, Himel Bros, Thedi, Regius, etc

  • @brunonjezic6208

    Yeah it really depends of climate. As person living in Germany and getting rained on almost every time I ware leather jacket I get feeling it is getting dry approximately once a year. Especially the veg tanned one that at the moment i have only one unfortunately

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yeah if you're getting constant rain on certain veg tan jackets, you'll need to condition a bit sooner. It also depends on the specific leather. Some veg tan jackets need more moisture than others

      @@almostvintagestyle true. This one is on the dry side. It does smell excellent to my senses

    My main problem is cotton and viscose liners are problem, especially in white and bright colors. I'm thinking to give it to dry cleaners but I'm super suspicious they don't mess something up. Mind you my leather jackets are embarrassing next to any of yours. Still I do love them

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Oh do you mean that they get stained easily? That definitely can be an issue. Some of the viscose liners make me feel sweaty

      @@almostvintagestyle well white (cotton) one got looking quite nasty after few years of regular ware. With viscose liners I do have mixed experience, but mostly from my sport jackets. Some runn hot and some are great breathable, soft and smooth. I guess there is quite a quality distance in those. Sometimes it performs like different fabric

    What’s your opinion on driving with the jacket on? Would the seatbelt not leave a mark over time? Or wearing a backpack ocasionally on vacation?
    Love your videos, keep up the good work

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It depends on the leather. I had a veg tan tea core jacket that did fade in the shoulder because of the seat belt. However, my vintage chrome tanned jackets are unaffected

    I just bought a vintage leather jacket from Sweden that has similarly deformed shoulders from hanging on a bad coat hanger. It's from the 40's-50's and has a removable sheepskin liner for colder days (that I won't be wearing). The jacket and the liner smell pretty bad. Or a lot. It has a punchy odor. Do you think that some "miracle spray" (vinegar, dish soap, water) would help to remove the stench? I already sprayed it ;) but I'm curious as to what your tip would be? I might even powder it lightly with some baking soda if the spray doesn't help. Yay/Nay?

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I would definitely say to air it out as much as you can and wipe it down with a damp cloth. I could see treating it more seriously if the leather is in good condition and can take it

      @@almostvintagestyle thanks. How did your shoulder bump fix you mentioned that you would treat with water or conditioner go with the jacket in the video? Any update on that jacket coming up?

    Hey Jake, do you do anything to your jackets like wipe them with a damp cloth or brush them periodically?

  • @Threedog92
    @Threedog92 Před 3 měsíci +1

    I go alwasy after the formular: „Feels the leather like realy dry skin, I give it care.“ Shoes and boots are a little different than jackets (they are more exposed), but in the principle the same. Too much is never good, of course.

    • @Threedog92
      @Threedog92 Před 3 měsíci +1

      And this discussion „blue collar/white collar“ (diaregarding it is an very american term) is often very strange. I know people who work in offices and need constantly new shoes. And on the other side people who work manual (like my self), who get their shoes not worn down.
      What i would say, the individual manner of wearing things is not always connected with the job.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes good points. I agree that individuals put wear on boots differently.

    Seems like the advice given here is an exasperated and somewhat pedantic “you don’t need to condition your jacket”. I feel like it would be much more informative and practical to describe what dry leather that needs conditioning feels like - when should you condition? And why shouldn’t you condition?

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 3 měsíci +2

      I am exasperated because people are messing up their jackets by overconditioning them
