  • Dhaka truly is a fascinating city, and we are coming to an end of our time here before we head on to explore deeper into Bangladesh. But first, we were lucky enough to meet some kind locals who decided to take us around!

Normally Real Estate and shiny buildings come after a good street, pavements.. But in Bangladesh, you can have vegetable market and office buildings on the same gully..

This is not a village, what you visited was a wet market that specializes in bulk fruit and veg.
The settlements next the train tracks are slums/shanty towns, some of the poorest people in the country live in these areas. This kind of settlement is very rare (i'd even say almost non-existent) outside of dhaka. People perceive (sometimes rightfully) dhaka as the place where they can realize their dreams. Many move to dhaka in search of employment and end up in these areas either temporarily or for a longer period of time (specially if they don't have good trade skills or education). There are many negative aspects to rapidly and unequally developing a country, things like this show the cracks in the system; a very real look into the extreme inequality present in dhaka.
I'm personally conflicted when it comes to these people, honestly. On the one hand I can't help but empathize with the kids that end up growing up in these environments, I want every kid to have access to at least the basics so they are not set up for failure down the line. On the other hand I've personally (while working with some charities) experienced some people refusing to take a job even if it was offered up to them without any sort of preconditions; while the pay wouldn't be the best it would put a proper roof over their heads and specially allow them to send the kids to school. Many of the men are extremely proud, and tend to have the mentality of "this job is beneath me" or "I don't want to take orders from someone every day". I say men, because in way too many cases the women work multiple grueling jobs as maids and household help for very little pay just to keep the family fed while the husband wastes all day roaming the streets chasing his next m-e-th or sol-vent high.
Then again I wouldn't blame it all on individual failures, our society and the system has failed these people and we should be doing more to get them back on track.

You should visit in rural side of Bangladesh. Sylhet, Sunamganj is best of them.
You can come to "Shimul Bagan" in Sunamganj. Shimul Bagan means “Cottontrees Garder”. During this season the trees are covered with red flowers which are very attractive to look at.

I don't know whats so touristy about wet market and railway lines 😄
ummm if you want to then go to old Dhaka and experience the bustling lifestyle of millions of people who lives there ( if you can handle the hustle and bustle only then go there) there are approx 52000 alleyway in that small part of Dhaka.
Then you can go to sonargaon (panam city) and experience around 400-500 years old majestic Bengal architecture and also do visit the beautiful museum over there.
I personally don't recommend the pink palace or lal Bagh fort because yeah they hold a lot of history but they are kind of underwhelming .if you want to you can visit those to.
Then hop on a train and go to sylhet . You will experience the beauty of endless tea plantation and the most northern hilly area of Bangladesh.
Than take a plane ride to go to Cox's bazar( home to the largest unbroken sea beach in the world)
    Experience the beauty of beaches.
Then take another train ride to Chittagong ( home to one of the oldest sea port in South Asia )
Chittagong is the 2nd largest city in Bangladesh, so you will see a lot of similarities to Dhaka but also it's very different and if you visit Chittagong then you gotta have to go to bandarban and experience the majestic scenery of kaptai lake and sajek valley ( it's truly breathtaking)
Then take bus from Chittagong to sundarban and finish your travel to Bangladesh. Sundarban is the largest mangrove forest in the world .although it's not easy to travel there because it's dense forest but you will easily find a lot of tour company even govt tour companies for travel , it's kind of expensive. It's like $150 per person for 2/3 days including food and everything but I can assure you that it'll be worth it and say good bye to Bangladesh. I think this will be better tour of this beautiful country than just roaming around slums and densely packed areas of Dhaka. This beautiful country holds history of over 3000 years and experienced rise and fall of countless emperors and dynasties. Mahasthangarh is a burning proof of that.hope this helps. Have a great trip to Bangladesh

Karala is known as Bitter Gourd in English and you will find it in asian shops in England. It is good finely sliced in a stir fry on it's own or with potatoes. It is a little bitter to taste as the name indicates but I have grown to enjoy it. I know that it is good for the blood and I think it is also good for diabetes.
