How do you make a million drag racing? Start with 2 million.
If you’re a formula racer this is definitely true, but drag races are different
My father’s favorite quote
Jayden Valentine indeed. Professional dragsters don’t cost 2 million. They cost 20 million
Best advice on how to do anything you want, Just start with 2 million lol
@@jordy2299 No they don't.

Bracket racing is how a lot of independent race teams support there racing programs, rather it be what they do for a living or as a sport. It’s good exposer for them if they have a shop that builds cars or manufacturers race car parts. But some people just like index racing for whatever reason, that’s beyond me, cause I think it’s boring as hell. A lot of bracket racing events are huge and cause so many people participate the pay outs are substantial and there’s usually something to take home for more than just the 1st place winner, I’ve seen events that pay something to everyone that makes it to the semifinal and even quarterfinal rounds. And like the guy said, your not pushing the cars to there limits or chasing any records so there’s less breaking and replacing parts or changing set ups just to go faster, cause your just trying to be consistent and regular maintenance is all that’s needed.
Very few people make any money from bracket racing! It's like putting a band together and thinking you're going to hit it big, as you fight along side 500,000 other musicians who think they are going to make it big, and after 15 years of trying, you finally realize, it ain't so easy!!!
Where bracket racers who make money, actually make their money, isn't from winning giant events, it's from sponsorship deals!! They are essentially salesmen and women for their sponsors. You have to have a knack for something, or an audience you can present to sponsors and show them you can get their products sold via your connections with other people. If you can do that, you can make enough money to race, and enjoy it, and pay the bills too.
Some of us "index" race, because we can't afford to build $100,000+ race cars to compete in heads-up events, but we love racing and going fast. Again, it's the "we're going to be a big successful band" syndrome, most of the time it just doesn't happen.
Brilliant, back in the early 70's, I had a dirt track car and 2 engines (6 and V8) that I used at two different tracks on Friday and Saturday nights.
That’s my brother!! I am so proud of you bub. I love you!❤️

Yeah ok you don’t need. 100000 car but you do need about 20 thousand for engine drivetrain reared and all the other stuff
You honestly deserve more views and subs, great video of an sweet ride
this guy is every bracket racer... I ran a 68 chevelle... ran 13.20 every pass...In 1992 it was a "fast" street car... finished 3rd at our track. Won 3 races final in 2 and semi in 7. that year it didnt cost me a dime...made a couple of bucks. red-lit and first round lost in 4.
Too many guys are having to pedal it where he's smart and has it dialed in. Not a lot of variables and the right power levels obviously. Nice!
I agree. This is why I won't lose my mind modding out my cars like I used to do years ago trying to chase a number. Keeping things simple and consistent you learn a lot about your ride and become very familiar with what it's going to do in all situations. Keeping the power levels perfect for hooking up on the street and strip is where it's at for me.
The very first pass
was 12.03@ 106
A couple others were 12.00 @ 102 and
11:00 @ 117.
He is holding a bunch of numbers.
Probably capable of 10.00 @ 135+
😉👍
@@BuckI2Bdad Man I wish! 4.30 and 28" mickeys keep me far away from those times. Later on down the road though!
he is damned good,he is doing multiple classes and dial ins and nailing them all, don't know how without the electronics cause it sure aint easy to do 11 second,12 second etc brackets and move around in the classes and hit your dial in without going over.

Best well known secret is how consistent these chassis are. Build a bullet proof combo and keep humble with it, and you become the limiting factor.
Huh?
@@dawsonshamblin2575 He's/she's/they're/them are/it is/shim is saying, 3rd gen F-body's are extremely consistent drag cars if you build them moderately! Now as far as being humble goes, yeah, I don't think that matters at all!!
Hell yeah man! Good job Josh! Glad I could be there to experience all these events with ya. Keep it up! See ya in Atlanta in september!
I used to win the 11.00 class every weekend at the local 1/8th mile track. I had an 06 Malibu 4 door that I drove too and from the track. The car was just so consistent I ran between 10.99-11.10 every pass. Unfortunately the 11.00 class didn't pay out money. 😥😥
Man an 11 second 1/8th mile is like 17 seconds for a 1/4 mile
This takes me back to high school when i didnt have mom n pops $$$ to buy me a fast car...there were only 4 classics in high school the rest of the kids had modern year cars, I had a 78 pontiac Phoenix coupe I spent all my $ on that car my brother had a Porsche 944 my dads friend sold it to him for a good price...the good ol days
Man hes really got that thing dialed in!
That is pretty rad man, thats the way to go
People hate it cause they don't take the time to understand how it goes. Bracket racing is where it's at! Man and machine with a mind game twist. Started when I was 8 and still love it. Would love to see a heads up race bring over 700 entries to one single race...SFG 525 it happen for 525,000 to win.
Josh is a great guy and a hell of a racer. Raced with him for many years. He won a IHRA Summit team finals at just 17. Way to go Wonderboy!! Keep kicking ass!!
Wow you talk about cutting heads off, you just ate everyone out of the hole! Keep it up mad respect to you.
Tree and leave! Get out in front as fast as I can
I just found this channel and love it😍😍😂😂
Yesssss showing em that the SBC can still run with em
Can still run index racing? XD LS guys are competing with the Hemi guys running 4s back to back
this - the guy and his firebird formula - this is what I want, everything about this video is how I want this to go with my "plan" for 2020 as I get back into a car and racing over the winter after more than a dozen years since I last worked and raced at a proper drag strip - Im shopping for a solid streetable buildable FBody that runs and guns. Everything about this video, and this guys attitude and his bracket wins, that's what i want to do. this this this. this is racing the right way, for fun and some enjoyable successes in a sweet clean car.
Thank you! I'm @dragraceweekly on Insta if you want to see any more. Good luck with your future build!
@@joshayers I don't currently do instagram, but thanks back at ya all the same.
89 Firebird formula....Same year and model as mine!!! Only mines bone stock rn
Well I race round track asphalt cars and the key to be very consistent every time is once you get the right formula or recipe you take notes from day 1 and when you get the right formula you reference the notes and keep taking notes and do everything the exact same every time when I say exactly I mean exactly same thing as in you turn a certain bolt or nut at the exact time at every race you have to be over the top ocd and that's what makes a consistent performance every race in any type of racing. The race is won in the shop before you even get to the track
If you saw how exact and how I operate during week before race weekend and at racetrack you will see what I mean I know what this guy does takes alot of time and work to get that perfect every run
I race a low 9sec rat truck and it's great. But today I just scored a 88 Camaro with a 427 big block with all the bells and whistles. Gage's roll bar ect. Guy used to bracket race it in the early 90s runs 12.0s
Best part coming 2000 fricking bucks!!!!! Lol I feel almost guilty.
But he said he wanted it to go to a good home and it is.. seeing this video I'm going to do the same with it.... Race the shit out of it

Some of us actually don't even care about the prize money. I sure don't. It's just a great way to compete at something with our hot rods without mortgaging the house. I couldn't stand to just go to the track week in and week out and only make time shots.
TurdGen FTW!
I have a 89 thirdgen I'll never get rid of it
86 here,love it.will be buried in it....
Epic car
No spinning your winning!
Alot of these classes (eg comp eliminator) used to have prize money where you could cover your costs of competition and pay yourself a wage 20 years ago, but now you're lucky to get 1/5th of what you got back then if you get into the finals, even then it's not guaranteed... It's kinda like the musician lugging 15k worth of gear in a $2000 vehicle on a 100 mile round trip, playing for 4 hours packing it up and doing it all over again next week all for $50 and a $25 barcard
Still sounds fun!
Did you really ask what his secret was? If you watch the video it’s pretty obvious, he’s the only one leaving on the same day the tree flashes 😂
its bracket,not heads up
What is your point? Cutting a light is necessary in either form.
Damn, I was at SCT Columbus and missed this car somehow
I wanted and was hoping to see a payday from the firebird
That's the body I always love
The best way to make $1000000 drag racing? Start with a bank account of $2000000.
You know the deal
how much money to build this car?

Is bracket racing the same as index,if not what's the difference, let me know
It's the same but with a pre determined "dial-in" that applies to all racers in that index.
Can you use your daily driver in bracket racing?
Yes, you definitely could!
@@joshayers I have a turbo Cruze and was wondering what it could do.
I have a 85 firebird thats my street n strip car n my wife has a 91 firebird. A his n hers deal works great lol
Would be curious to see his reaction times, it looks like he treed everyone! I also wonder if when he bracket races he treats it like an index race and sets his time at 11.0 to keep his consistency.
Decent, but rough leaving off the footbrake on a .400 pro tree! I don't run 1/4 mile unless it's an SCT event, but I've ran many different 1/8th mile index classes. It's not technically "set up" for any certain class. Thanks for watching!
Drag Race Weekly ... driver mod.
@@joshayers are you changing the pill for the different classes?
@@russellbroadwell Nope, not changing a thing other than how it's driven!
@@joshayers very impressive. You are holding a 100#s and not breaking out!

His car is capable of of mid to low 10’s so he can back into almost everyone

Out standing keep doing what you are doing. The guy in the other lane might have 40 to a 100 thousand in his race car and guess what? Hes expected to win cause hes got all the cash out lay. The pressure is on him. Keep up what yu are doing, cut the tree down and drive the finish line. Be double 0 take double 0.
I think he can get that exhaust a little close to the ground!
brian ross. Those F bodies had one exhaust tunnel down the passenger side of the car. He ran true dual exhaust so he had to go under the pan.
Close. But he can probably get in another half inch closer before it scrubs.

Dude really looks like a yard gnome. Solid videos though, thanks buuuuuuuudy!
Geez, somebody knock on the window and wake the other guy up; there's a drag race going on.
Yeah, a $1 million to win race costs at least $500 entry fee, so not so cheap, especially when you go out first or second round, then they try to hit you up for another $350-$500 for the buy back race!!
How do you know it's cheap didn't see a run down of the setup
He said it was a 383 sbc on nitrous.
I wouldn’t get into drag racing with the soul purpose in mind of making money. Doing it on the cheap is fun but it’s almost impossible to “profit” from it.
Jacob Young As long as your car doesn’t break for a while it’s possible. he’s built a very consistent and reliable vehicle. Fast enough to have fun, not fast enough to break shit. As long as he’s consistent, he’s making money
Definitely not why I got into it! Just so happened to become better and make money later on. Have been doing this almost ever weekend of the season for 15+ years. Loads of fun doing it on the cheap and winning cash!
So He Spent Like $10K-$20K On That Thing? And Got Out With More Money?
CZcams caption said your name is "Big Collab"..... That bothered me way more than it should have
They did me dirty! 😂
I’m about to build a car 🤷🏾♂️
Go to a million dollar bracket race and spend 5k to run 1 event and run with 800 of the best bracket racers in the country lol it’s not that simple
You are absolutely right. Easy to win often if you're good and running small races. Big fish in a little pond.
Montgomery, AL has the Million Dollar race every year. And the competition is tight. And even when you're good, sometimes a dog gets lucky. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
But I plan on making passes this year and getting back into my groove.
Good job. Killing it
How does he win with a 12.49 vs 12.41? I know nothing about index racing so forgive the question.
@Rique ikr it throw me off cause it was a few races like that in the video. Hopefully someone will break it down for me lol.
He beat him on tree, so a .400 (on a pro tree) is a "perfect" light. So they guy could have cut a .400 and ran a 12.49 but he got the line faster than the guy who cut a .490 light and ran 12.41.
Index racing is just bracket racing with a pre determined dial in. The first car to get to the finish line with out "breaking out" running faster than dial in or index wins. As long as you dont red light
@@RobsGarage Thanks
@Rique essentially but the number you gave no. It goes off a "pakage". So say you run a 11.00 index your "daily in" is 11.00 if you run a pro tree a .400 is perfect but you have a .410 light and run 11.00 you would have a .010 package. Would be the exact same as a .400 light and running a 11.01. A .600 on light and a 11.00 would be like running a 11.20. And so on
☝️
