I really like the Rotopax bundle. The 4 gallon fuel can is centered behind the tire, so that it's weight - 30 pounds when full - is also centered above the hitch where it won't put any torsional loading on the assembly. In a Rav4 Prime that gets 40 mpg, that's 160 miles of extra driving range!

I'm tempted to try this as a way of helping my angle of departure (Under-mount tire and resonator are the low spots), but wondering if the added length of the assembly would make it a wash? Any thoughts? Product look very well made.

Any idea why my ultra swing is bouncing when going down the highway? Gets pretty shaky at 75 and the back end of the 4runner bounces pretty noticeably. I torqued the wedge. The mount doesn't move when I shake it, but the arm has a slight give back and forth in line with the car when everything is pinned in place.

I'd like to see you guys attach a hitch-mounted bike rack in that extra hitch-slot. I have yet to see where/how a mountain bike would set on that thing.
Thanks for the comment, all of us here use bike racks on our UltraSwings. We use a lot of 1-Up, Thule, Kuat, and a few other brand's racks. We've tested just about every bike rack out there, even Northshore and vertical style racks. What are the security options for the bike carriers? I’m hoping to be able to go on hikes or in to a restaurant or just sleep at night next to them with a little bit of confidence they would be hard to steal.

Personally, I use U-locks and two cable locks if I have to leave bikes unattended for any period of time on the rig.
What should the torque be when mounting/ tightening the wheel mounting bolts on the Multi-Fit? (For reference, the torque on the wheel lugs is 89 ft/lb)
Hey Chris, you can match your manufacturer torque specs, technically we list it at 85 ft lbs.
Maybe a presentation without a spare tire and other possible add ons for those maintains a spare in vehicle or under vehicle

Will one of these work for a 1991 Toyota 4Runner with 33 x 12.5 R15 ? It has a tailgate that comes down not a hatch back like that one in video. So the lever on it won’t allow 4Runner tailgate to come down without touching?

Thanks for asking. You can actually use as short as 10" or quite long like a 20". I'd recommend this option, put the 10" in your trail tools kit in case you ever needed to tighten the UltraSwing on the trail or remove for some strange reason. I just ordered mine today and I'm super excited to get it and install it! Since it's expensive and will have $500 worth of tire and wheel on it as well, I obviously don't want it getting stolen. So, I've been racking my brain trying to find the best and most secure locking pin and not being happy with what I'm finding for options. Then I realized the "wedge" locked in place is a theft deterrent thieves won't realize is there. Since most locking hitch pins are cheap, I plan to get a 5/8 heavy duty bolt with two nuts and some blue thread locker to act as a hitch pin. If anyone has any thoughts on this or a better idea, please let me know. Thanks!

How do you open the back door after installation? Does the tire support unit need to swing open first?
Yes, you need to swing the UltraSwing open to open the back hatch of your vehicle.
I'd be tempted to use stainless carriage bolts inserted backwards, so the nut was in the rear, to mount the tire mount. Might help prevent someone from simply unbolting and stealing a tire rather easily.
If I have a gx460 without the factory hitch, can I use a curt class III hitch instead for the Ultraswing?

Looks like a neat system. Does it come with options to lock it down? (i.e. locking hitch pin / locking nuts / locking everything that could lock?)
Thanks for the question. Yes, the UltraSwing is locked via a locking hitch pin (sold separately), which even if cut the thief would also need a socket extension and wrench to loosen the wedge. We recommend locking your spare tire with matching keyed lugs to your other wheels.
My Ultraswing is vibration so badly plus my 4runner is shaking so badly too. 285 tire not supposed to shaked I even tried to mount the tire lower , but still shake. What need to be done and solved the shaking .

Florida requires a light on the license plate. Just got busted with ( not bright enough ) lights on it. 🙄

So after the tire was put on, you were sitting on top of it? I thought the carrier had a max weight of 250lbs? Or is that just the rule of thumb? I have been getting mine dialed in for no more than 225lbs.. maybe you can shed some light on this? TIA
Hey Tim, thanks for the question. Our ratings are based on dynamic load potential rather than static weight (like sitting on a tire). In off-road applications, the forces are exponentially greater than a single static weight scenario. You should always try to keep within the 250lb rating for actual driving on or off road.

Does anyone know if this will work with Blind Spot Monitoring? That's all I need to know.
Blind spot monitors are usually along the outer part behind the bumper, almost to the side. Hasn't bothered my rig with blind spot and rear cross traffic monitoring.
Great product but I think it is silly that you spend $1200 but have to buy the hitch mount pin separately. Why?!
We have basic hitch pins on our site for just $4, the reason it's separate is many prefer a locking hitch pin (we recommend it). We sell a basic locking hitch pin for $24, however many also like to utilize brands like BOLT which have a lock that can be keyed to match your ignition key, thus eliminating the need to carry extra small keys. We could just include the cheap one, but so many of our customers don't need a basic hitch pin we prefer not to create the extra waste.

How does one prevent theft ? Seems like they can just unbolt it and take your tire.
To steal the UltraSwing, you would need to cut through a locking hitch bolt, once through that, you would need a 10" socket extension to loosen the wedge. If trying to just steal your tire, with locking lugs that would be very difficult.
Why the tire plate design with an angle? I think upright may look better.
The angled tire centers the load of the tires over the carrier and significantly improves the performance of the carrier off-road compared to a vertical tire.
How come the installation guide recommends 85 ft lbs but video says 100 ft lbs?
Over time we've found that if a vehicle's hitch has some inconsistencies, weld burrs, etc., going up to 100 often will get past it and to the proper tightness. Bumping up to 100 is completely safe for our wedge system, so we figured we'd just say 100.

Why are all these companies angling the wheel plate? To keep the snow off?
Angling the tire centers the load of the tire/wheel over the carrier. Think of the physics like a little kid with a huge backpack getting pulled back, that's what a vertical tire is doing.

Am I the only one having an issue lining up the hole and inserting the pin, it just won't line up
As the wedge tightens it will pull the hole back slightly, usually if you line up the holes to match evenly all the way around, if when tightens the hitch pin will go through without issue because we oversized the hole on the UltraSwing to make it easier. 35" or larger tires are quite awkward and heavy. It can be done solo, but for the sake of your back, it's best to have a buddy's help if available. If you are solo, the more you've prepped by being strong will mitigate potential strain. For tires smaller than 35", that shouldn't be much of an issue for most people.
@@rigdsupply6945 You forgot to mention that it's a 35" mud terrain mounted to a true bead lock. This is an awkward 130lbs to lift by yourself if you don't have to.
