Here's another true story. I drove taxi on Friday and Saturday nights in Toronto while attending Community College many years ago. One Friday evening, I received a radio call to pick up a take-out order at a Chines restaurant on Danforth Avenue. It was a warm July evening and, as I waited at the open side kitchen door for the order, I observed two kitchen workers using a pail, situated right beside a crate of vegetables, as a urinal. Lot of "splashing" onto the vegetables. When done, they simply "gave it a shake," zipped up and went back to cooking without hand washing. I left without the order and contacted my dispatcher and told him the story. He called the customer who, I found out later, appreciated he fact that I didn't pick up the order. The next Monday, I called the City Health Department. The woman with whom I spoke told me that they receive many calls about dirty restaurants and over 80% of them are about Chines eateries.

The rats and mice were employees of the restaurant...the health inspector should respect them doing their jobs guarding the front and back doors and restocking the shelves...
It seems Chinese restaurants are always the worst. My mom was at one once and found a roach cooked into the food. When she told the owner the she said I'll give you a discount.
I don't understand how these people just don't care. Do they like staying in filth? They have to work there. Aren't they concerned they can kill someone? It's baffling.
No excuses for these restaurants but I will say that people have NO IDEA how humid and wet FL is. EVERYTHING just molds and rots! Roaches and centipedes or spiders are just insane down there. You have to keep everything poisoned at all times. Also, they don't design things well. You should be able to pressure hose out with near boiling water the floors and at least the bottom third of all walls. They just don't want to PAY people to clean. Really good restaurants PAY an outside vendor to come in a clean in the mornings.
Im gonna be straight up. I've worked in The food industry for my entire life. Most places I have worked at had some sort of issue. IN louisiana, fruit flies. In Florida, roaches. I've seen mice in kitchens. Every time I have seen the full gamete of attempts to get rid of those pests. As disgusting as it is, it's not easy getting rid of something as simple as fruit flies coming from out of drains. The sad part is the place in Florida had known about the little roaches for a while and it wasnt until I started working there that we fixed it. I mean I had to basically tell them...those roaches are living in the hotwell, they arent coming from the wall. Pests aren't as easy to deal with as "Just take action". Mice and rats are a vitrolic issue, they come back, if you dont find the source, they come back, poison works for only so long. Then you have dead mice and rats in your walls. They are smart and avoid traps. On the one hand no one wants to eat from places with insect or rodent problems, but, most of the places you go eat there is a creeply crawly somewhere that no one talks about...but they are there. Being a responsible food professional doesn't deter animals from looking for food.
Here's a story that will (or should) stop you from ever stepping inside a Chinese restaurant, I mean EVER!!! My late father was a meter reader for the electric utility in a major Ontario, Canada city. This was "back in the days" when all meters were inside and in basements. He ALWAYS had horror stories about the filth in Chinese restaurants. He saw, over the years, dead rats and mice (in every place), live rats, mice and insects crawling over crates of vegetables, overflowing toilets (a lot of them), floors covered in layers of mouse and rat sh*t, flying insects attached to walls and even a few dead cats. Considering that, if it swims, crawls, walks or flies, the Chinese will eat it, he always assumed that the cats were next day's Chef's Special. I refuse to either eat in a Chinese restaurant or even order take out.
It’s about time you did some investigating into all restaurants, all so I’ve noticed some dirty little restaurants in shopping malls don’t go to any of these disgusting smelly filthy restaurants , check the coffee cafes in shopping malls they are just as bad 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Money over peoples health! Disgusting but all to common especially when the staff are immigrants who've grown up with Appling conditions all around them. It's as if they just can't grasp the fact this isn't safe not even for themselves! Check out the staff, you can ask for a kitchen tour and if there's nothing to hide they might question your reasons but will let you. Your dining safety is up to you, don't just assume their standards are the same as yours. Happy dining and trust your instincts. Don't be afraid to contact the health department if things are fishy or your refused access to the kitchen.
