Glad your knee isn't screwed. I fell on jetties once, and gashed my shins so badly, I had to stop fishing for a month.
Hope that knee is doing alright, brother. If it continues to feel a little unstable, consider a level 1 or 2 knee brace to help the sprain heal quicker.

I use to go spend the night out there all the time when I was younger. I have many fond memories of those days catching all kinds of fish with my buddies. I only get to fish four or five times a year now, I bay fish for reds, trout and beach fish mainly for shark, maybe one day I'll go back. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on the tarpon, Coop. Might be worth having it looked at--I've got friends who blew the ACLs and never had surgery. They could walk and do all that just fine, but they couldn't do anything that required lateral flexion, such as snow skiing, football, basketball, most sports, etc.
If it was just a sprain, then I'd say it was well worth landing a silver king. Peace!

COOP, I'll third that! It could be a minor tear & if unchecked, it could blow out. MAJOR difference in repair / surgery methods, costs & rehab times! You are still young, do what you can to stay as mobile as you can for as many years as you can! The key to longevity & a better quality of life. (65 yrs & still Yakkin' & castin' - after shoulder surg.)

i partially tore a ligament in my right knee when I was 21 and it swelled up to the size of a small toy football and my orthopedist actually recommended against surgery. He said, you are young enough that it will heal itself up ok, just give it time and wrap it up. I had jumped off a platform and landed on both feet, like normal, and, pop! Yep. Same, “pop” in the knee. So who knows what actually happened to Thresher, I definitely recommend going to an orthopedist to at least get an assessment. Maybe a pop could also just be a sprain.

2. As someone who tore an ACL, go get it checked out sooner rather than later. I waited 3 years to get mine repaired and wish I would have done it right away

I've had several knee injuries, they're not too terrible. Buy a brace from a sporting goods store and don't do any running or jumping for a couple weeks

I need recommendations for jetty rod. Just got my slammer 4500. What braid strength do I go with? It’s rated 30lb. Targeting bull reds and jacks.
30lb power pro will do the trick. Make sure to use about a 36" fluorocarbon leader, I use 20lb seguar gold label for my leader. This is good for anything I've encountered on the jetties or surf short of like 6' sharks obviously.

What size hook did you use?
Coop please be sure to look after yourself man, just get an experts option on your knee if possible, it’s often those small injuries that really can get you. My left arm has been 40% numb for almost two years now because I didn’t properly care for a small injury and it’s made me regret not fixing it early on when I could have.

Coop from experience i strongly suggest that you get an MRI . I didnt and im definitely limited now. I didnt have any serious pain untill a month after i injured it. Torn A.C.L. your young. You dont want permanent damage. Take care bud.
Good chance it is your meniscus, it can take weeks or months to fully heal so be very careful with it, I'm not saying lay up for a month but even when it doesn't hurt be very deliberate in your movements and aware of not twisting in certain ways. I'm tall as well and it can be a reoccurring issue if you take feeling better for granted. Tweaked both of mine hiking and chasing a tiny dog that blasted threw the screen door at the airbnb, fun fun, lol. I hadn't been hiking as much the first 6 months of the pandemic, plus the winter before it. Thought I was fully healed a couple times but then a slight wrong movement or twist that shouldn't have hurt at all made it tear again. It was an on and off issue for another 6+ months for me, but I have been good to go since this spring since I'm on a trail and or rock scrambling every week again. You should check out "Kneesovertoesguy" on here he specializes in knee pain prevention exercises.

Man, you should baby that knee. I'm not much older than you (late 30s) and I got knee effusion after a 36-hour fishing peir grind three years ago. That knee hasn't been the same since; even though I stayed off it and kept it elevated for three days afterward. Injuries to the joints will stay with you forever. Getting old sucks.
