Viewing the Joseph Christian Leyendecker exhibit:
"J.C." as he was called, was one of the most prominent and financially successful freelance commercial artists in the U.S. He was active between 1895 and 1951 producing drawings and paintings for hundreds of posters, books, advertisements, and magazine covers and stories.
He is best known for his 80 covers for Collier's Weekly, 322 covers for The Saturday Evening Post, and advertising illustrations for B. Kuppenheimer men's clothing and Arrow brand shirts and detachable collars. He was one of the few known gay artists working in the early-twentieth century U.S.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Oh Ron you came across gold!!!. I thought it was Norman Rockwell's paintings as well. I am so fascinated with his paintings. Amazing to find another person who inspired Rockwell. Thank you so much Ron for taking the time to stop in and show us. ❤❤ I definitely am a person who won't forget him and now we have a new person to remember❤
Thank you
he is gold & works hard 4 us all.
This absolutely blows my mind! To think there was someone who inspired Norman Rockwell ! Who would have known those magazines (10 cents maybe) would have become such a huge part of our lives and an era gone. Thanks again Ron for bringing the past alive again for this and hopefully the next generation.Never to old to learn.😊
It's so cool to see something on Leyendecker, he's one of my favorite artists!
I think you are one of the few, actually the only person here so far that has known about and recognized him. How soon forgotten people are….
Wow, I have never heard of J.C. Leyenecker before. I would have thought of Norman Rockwell too. We are never too old to learn something new. Thank you, Ron, for showing us this cool museum.
Thank you Amanda!!!
Hope you join FOTF to explore Ron's Channel.
Thank you Ron!!! This was incredible! I never knew Norman Rockwell had a predecessor who did this style artwork. What a treasure trove you and Amanda introduced us to. I love museums!!!!! This is awesome and will be one I show my Mom when I go home for my Birthday in latter part of Feb.
We always get educated on your journeys. Thank you for all that you do. Your compassion for others is so heart warming.
The art work is so real like, it make you feel as if they will just come to life, Thanks Ron another brilliant episode
So cool!! Thank you Amanda and Ron!!
Wow hows come I never heard of this guy. Beautiful art, so Norman Rockwell. Thanks for taking us along.....😊❤
Rockwell made me feel what was in every painting. I wanted to melt into every scene. Just goes to show you, everyone comes from a predecessor, family or influencer. Thank you. Blessings from Michigan.
Leyendecker's approach looks to have differed markedly from that of Rockwell's. Where Leyendecker painted from his sketches of studio models, Rockwell's paintings were based on his photographs of set pieces --- tableaus, I guess you could call them --- with "costumed" studio models. Rockwell would trace off of the photos.
What an amazing episode .I'm not a big art person but these pictures are very Impressive Ron ,thank you for taking all us with you on this adventure .Here in Wisconsin getting ready for another round of snowstorm tomorrow an single digits Arctic 🥶. air moves in ahead

What a fantastic story! Amazing art work!Thank you so very much for sharing this with us!
Wow, I am so happy you shared your "find", Ron! I have always been a fan of Norman Rockwell, in fact, I have a collection of figurines depicting 12 of the paintings he did for the Saturday Evening Post. I was never aware that he had a predecessor who, I am sure, inspired him. Thanks again, Ron, I will be doing some research
I have info about a Norman Rockwell painting. When I began my position with Purdue University as an Extension Ed, I noticed that one of his paintings was hanging in our office. It was the painting of Purdue Ext. Ag rep. working with a farmer and 2 young girls. (I think it was 2)and their pet 4-H cow. The youngest of the girls in the pic was my boss when working for Ball State Univ. The Purdue Ag Educator was her father. The girl, my boss, was Avanelle Reed from Ripley Co, in Indiana. Found out later that this picture is hanging in every Extension Office in the state of Indiana. I think there are 92 offices. Avanelle said that he was the nicest, kindest man .
Thanks for sharing that. Very interesting
Those paintings were amazing, so lifelike. Thanks for showing us Ron ❤

This was very interesting Ron! I too had no idea that Norman Rockwell had a predecessor. And he was as good an artist as Norman Rockwell was too. Glad you gave some recognition because it's long in coming and very well deserved!
Amazing! Thank you Ron, and Amanda!❤️
Wow ! Now we see the rest of the story… thank you Ron ! We can surely see where Norman Rockwell got his influence or perhaps he was asked if he could do something like his predecessor did ,so he continued the style.
That was awesome❣️ I love Norman Rockwell. it's great to see his possible inspiration. Thanks Ron❣️

Awesome!
There's a museum in Hannibal, MO that commemorates Mark Twain and his stories. There was original artwork by Norman Rockwell. I did not realize Norman R. Illustrated Mark Twain's novels. There's also a death mask of Mark Twain's baby.
I have actually been there. I was down in St Louis doing the story of the Mad Doctor McDowell, czcams.com/video/kjswRTsbvHI/video.html, the grave robber, and there I reference the cave.
but when I went to film there at the cave, the owners said "no filming, no no no".
dumb - it was their loss.
Very interesting learned something new thanks Ron
There was quite interesting!
That was fantastic! 😊
That was amazing ❤️❤️
This is such a good companion video to Kaz Rowe's videos on Leyendecker
