I use a 5 gallon bucket with a tool apron on it to carry my things around the garden. All my most used tools are in the pockets and the interior of the bucket can carry whatever is needed-my irrigation tackle box and a roll of line, empty pots after planting back to the barn, my water bottle, etc. I’ve really found this to be an invaluable set up for me.

I have a large plastic tote with all things fasteners - clothespins, clips, Velcro tape, twine, panty hose scraps, bamboo stake rubber tops, and scissors. I grab the tote when I do my routine staking, twining, etc. I save those large spice containers from BJs for things I shake like milky spore, kaolin clay, diatomaceous earth. I keep all my small hand tools in a cloth tote with lots of pockets that I bought from Target two years ago. I also have a gallon ziplock bag full of washable garden gloves. Since I help my husband with our landscape business, I use this for work too. I have a little drawstring bag we got from who knows what that I stuff leaf bags into. At home, I use one of those round collapsible garden debris holders, which I love, but sometimes I have to dispose of things at the curb so I use bags. Once spring hits, I place my measuring spoons and long paint sticks which I use as stirrers on top of my rain barrels. I keep watering cans and five gallon buckets near each one, so when I grab my fertilizers, my tools are already at the rain barrels. I garden a lot in containers, so I find I need to supplement.

That lazy susan thing for small tool storage is just what I didn’t know I needed! Thanks for sharing!
We use Dollar Tree wire mesh garbage cans for cheap cloches for small plants. They stack up and store easily.
We store netting and row cover in large plastic totes with wheels for easy transport. Mice get in everything here, but at least the tote locks and is a little more resistant than a bag. They’re really destructive.
Old mixed nut containers or any other larger plastic food container with a screw on lid is what we use for transporting smaller amounts of granulated fertilizer. It’s also good for keeping small amounts of de-icer by the door during winter.

Great tips, especially the Dollar Tree mesh cans. I always thought cloches were expensive for what little they protected, but doing it that way would be perfect.

I had to smile-that's exactly what I do. I use the shakers from cheap parmesan cheese (don't judge) for deicer for the side steps and walkway. Thanks for the cloche idea, that's brilliant.

Great ideas. I use a larger plastic tote similar to the one you use for landscape staples. In one side I have trowels and weeding tools etc. and a couple pairs of garden gloves. In the other side I have 3 of the 750 ml yogurt containers. One has plant labels and markers. One has scissors, hand pruners and a small ball of twine. One has tomato clips and clothes pins which I sometimes use with my row covers to clip them down.
I also use large S hooks to hang items from the rafters in my shed.
Edit: I take the tote into the garden with me so I have what I need. It helps to save trips back and forth.

Solid ideas, thank you. I use a small 2-3 gal bucket to transport my supplies to the veg garden and another for harvesting. I'm forever setting down a small tool or gloves and wasting time looking for them or forgetting them entirely. Taking the bucket from bed to bed is easy and I'm losing less stuff.
I use a 5 gal bucket for larger bags of fertilizer and amendments, sealed with a Gamma lid. It keeps everything protected from moisture. I transfer smaller amounts to repurposed plastic jars for use and the larger bucket keeps it all contained.

  • @accidentalcountrygirl
    @accidentalcountrygirl Před 2 měsíci

I'm a "How can I use this again?" kind of gal. Repurposed plastic containers, i.e. ice cream buckets, nut/candy/salsa canisters (the plastic ones w/ a lid), etc. I figure I've already bought the container, so...🤷‍♀ Waste not, want not. Happy gardening. 🌱🌱🌱

I had a friend save all their 3 gal kitty litter buckets. They aren't as bulky as a 5 gal, they are square so go on the shelf without wasted space like round ones, they have lids and handles. I label them with a Sharpie marker on the side with no printing. Free and so convenient for everything, including carrying around.

The drip irrigation supply box is something you can buy at Home Depot. I’ll need to check what brand I have, but I got it at Home Depot. It has two sides that open so on one side I have the 1/4” size drip heads, barbs, etc and on the other side I have 1/2” pieces. It works great.

What a coincidence; I was looking for row cover storage tips 2 days ago! I found on Rodale’s site that they use 10 ft x 1.5 in PVC tubes to roll them up and mark the size of the cover on the end of the tube. I do like the ziplock idea but I lack shelf space so think the tubes will work better for me. Thanks for sharing all the great ideas. This isn’t a topic I’ve seen before on gardening channels and I think it’s sorely needed!

I read somewhere about this: Designate a bucket for a tool cleaner. Fill it with small rocks, old marbles or bearings and pour old or gently used motor oil into the bucket. After you used a shovel, how, trowel etc dip it in the rocks and it's cleaned and oiled at the same time.

I am using 2 carry bins, one has everything I need when I'm transplanting, harvesting or light pruning, and the other one has scissors, pruners and string, which is useful for maintenence of vining plants. Gloves, secetears and everything I need is in each of the bins, so I can grab and go. 😊

If I had a grow room, I’d totally use that shoe organizer! Today I bought a shallow plastic bin from Target that holds two rows of seeds. I had a sturdy cardboard box and used packing tape to attach a cardboard divider down the middle. Then I used the cardboard to cut dividers for my categories. This is just for seeds I’m sowing this year. The rest of my seeds are stored in photo boxes - flowers, herbs, warm season, and two cool season boxes with index card dividers.
