    This could be a good one to watch if they had all of boxes lined up somehow and then had to advance them every 50/100 reps. It's also one where you could have the male and female athletes going at the same time which is always a cool comparison for long workouts.

    • @mcgeek4781

      This. Advancing to a new box every 100 reps will make it watchable.

      Yeah I think they have a plan of how to make it more fun to watch. Part of why people should chill out and withhold judgement until they, yanno, actually see the event. Dave did say in his recent athlete interview that there will be two heats, because of equipment restraints.

Half the field would check out because they didn’t want to even be there. It was a great opportunity to nut up and grind it out and get a W. Constantly Varied. I think a lot of people and affiliates have forgot that part about the sport and programming. CrossFit is not just the 21-15-9 WOD but also a 5k run, an obstacle course, and even going for a swim. Games is looking for the Fittest, not the best Fran time or the heaviest snatch. Love this workout, done it about 6 times, one of my favorite.

    • @mccask
      @mccask Před 3 dny +2

      You're missing the point that it will be neither dramatic nor fun to watch for many spectators who paid to attend the Games. I trust the athletes that made the Games have trained in broad time and modal domains. If there were an actual challenging ascent and descent (Texas is largely flat) that these step ups are attempting to mimic, that would be fun to witness. And, no, "a lot of people" have not forgotten "constantly varied" is a core tenet of the methodology.

    @lukesherwin4137 Před 3 dny

    I think this is an awesome workout and I’m super excited to see it. Those who are crying that it isn’t “spectator friendly” aren’t paying attention to the pacing strategies employed by each athlete and the drama of when an athlete hits a wall 600 reps in because they went too fast and suddenly they are slowing down dramatically as someone who started more conservatively eventually overtakes them. Or maybe the person who started fast has enough of a lead that despite being in agony somehow holds on and wins by just a couple repetitions.
    I guess as someone who has ran 3 marathons and had a completely different experience each time (due to certain aspects of each race such as pacing, nutrition, mindset, and the course being different working or not working to varying levels in each race), I guess I just find myself fascinated by endurance events more than most people.
    Don’t get me wrong, I love a good max C&J event or a short 21-15-9 two-movement metcon as well, but I find something super special about the endurance events. To each their own, I guess.

    Step ups went so well in quarterfinals 🤔

  • @animatedshockwave4796

    I hope they do it in the stadium on Friday night as event 1. Can you imagine having to go through the remainder of the Games after having done that workout?

    When I first heard this I was excited to watch the games because I know how much chad1000x fucked me up and Castro said there’s going to be a twist.

    The twist should be a penalty at the end of the workout. After you do the thousand step ups you complete a penalty of some other exercises (burpee for ex) based on how long you took to complete Chad.

    Whatever, there’s so many creative ways one could program that “energy pathway” and not bore the fans and athletes into self deletion. I truly believe Castro programmed it bc people bitche d about it before. He loves to huff his own farts.

    We did this at my gym for labor day last year. We were allowed to partner with as many people as we wanted so I did it with 3 others and we all did 250 lol

    Speed Triathlon, 400 yard swim, 800 run (sprint) and a mile bike sprint. Probably be finished in 10-11 minutes.

    Can you do Chad in the 40-50 minute range? Haley Adams said she did in the 40 minute range.

    I mean I get yesterday was July 4 but I've been waiting

    I think I’ll wait and see what the ‘with a twist element’ consists of before I go getting my panties in a twist about it tbh.
    You are of course correct - Chad, as written, is a great test. It is however undeniably mind numbing to watch….. as it’s written.
    Both those things can be true. Great test, valid test. But not a great watch.
    Let’s see how it pans out and what else gets thrown in to it first before passing judgement though.

    i think there is a case to be made that even athletes who would excel at this workout are worried about how hard of a product this is to sell. every CrossFit athlete works harder then all the pro golfers, but none of them make as much cuz many more people want to watch golf over CrossFit. I'm not saying this is a bad workout or a not good test or anything, just seems like it will be tough to package as a cool race, but maybe im wrong and tons of new people get into crossfit because of how exciting this workout is.

    We should let the DEI Dept at Crossfit HQ pick the workouts..

    People will complain about this workout.. yet.. they probably thought the bike race last year was “awesome” lol!
    I like this as a workout because.. although I haven’t done Chad as a workout.. but after my elbow surgery I did a lot of weighted box step ups and I’ll admit I hated doing it.. but, if they want to be the fittest.. you sometimes have to do stuff you don’t want to do.
