This could be a good one to watch if they had all of boxes lined up somehow and then had to advance them every 50/100 reps. It's also one where you could have the male and female athletes going at the same time which is always a cool comparison for long workouts.

Hell Yeah! I love this workout. Everybody is going to watch the first 100, take a break and come back and be glued watching when they hit about 700. Ultimate buy in
My thoughts exactly. In regard to the spectating it will be fine. This is the sort of event you turn on, make some food, passively watch. It will get interesting when you notice the entire field is going twice as fast as you did it unweighted.
Heck you could grab a box do it while watching the livestream and see how long you can keep up with the person in LAST place just to see the stark difference between us normal people and Games athletes.
Initially I thought it was dumb. But the more I thought about it it started to sound awesome! There’s definitely some strategy in this one and I’m excited to see how it plays out.

The ignorance! They don’t know their history, what CrossFit is intended to be, or the intent of the Games. Their cries are exposing their ignorance. Good job, Andrew. I’m glad you are 100% right with your take here
I had an initial reaction of "ugh, I'm gonna be there, how boring!" But after listening to your points, totally changed my mind. This is about the fittest on earth. Not the most spectator-friendly, nor the most accessible to athletes. This is why you have a strong fan base 💪🏻
I agree they should be focussed on making a great test to find the fittest. Not worrying about how things look. Will be interesting to see how this fits in to the overall programming
100% agree. It wont be the most exciting thing to watch, at first...but in the end it may. They are going to have to REALLY hurt win. That will be fun to watch and CrossFit isn't just 5 minute workouts with a heavy barbell. It encompasses so much more and like the marathon row, this is part of what CrossFit is. So, they should be tested in this. Also, its one event...there are a LOT more workouts to watch the entire weekend and I for one an super stoked to be going to Texas to watch this. LFG.
I love it. Any box can do this. Any home gym can do this. Anyone doing CrossFit can measure themselves against the best out there. Doesn’t require developing a skill like muscle ups, just raw fitness. ❤
If it wasn't for the all the americans who put their lifes on the line or died in wars - I'm not so sure how free and save my beloved neutral Switzerland would feel right now. Thanks for your service!
This reminds me of playing college golf in Michigan. The weather during the spring season was always aweful. Cold, wind, drizzle, sometimes some light snow flurries. Half the field would check out because they didn’t want to even be there. It was a great opportunity to nut up and grind it out and get a W. We will see how some athletes’ attitudes will impact their performance.
Agree on the seriousness of this WOD being a kick ass challenge, did it a few times. For spectators, we watch time consuming sports all.the.time, no complaints on base ball, US foot ball, Tour de France, ultra marathons etc. This is fine as an event if many.
I LOVE it!!!!! It is so Crossfit, it is a mental and physical grind. The more people whinge the more they need to take teaspoon of cement and get on with it.
Constantly Varied. I think a lot of people and affiliates have forgot that part about the sport and programming. CrossFit is not just the 21-15-9 WOD but also a 5k run, an obstacle course, and even going for a swim. Games is looking for the Fittest, not the best Fran time or the heaviest snatch. Love this workout, done it about 6 times, one of my favorite.
You're missing the point that it will be neither dramatic nor fun to watch for many spectators who paid to attend the Games. I trust the athletes that made the Games have trained in broad time and modal domains. If there were an actual challenging ascent and descent (Texas is largely flat) that these step ups are attempting to mimic, that would be fun to witness. And, no, "a lot of people" have not forgotten "constantly varied" is a core tenet of the methodology.
@@mccask so a workout needs to be fun to watch or dramatic? Did someone tell Castro this? I think you missed the point, it’s not about what looks good on CZcams or tv or in the stands. The Games are not about you or I.
I think this is an awesome workout and I’m super excited to see it. Those who are crying that it isn’t “spectator friendly” aren’t paying attention to the pacing strategies employed by each athlete and the drama of when an athlete hits a wall 600 reps in because they went too fast and suddenly they are slowing down dramatically as someone who started more conservatively eventually overtakes them. Or maybe the person who started fast has enough of a lead that despite being in agony somehow holds on and wins by just a couple repetitions. I guess as someone who has ran 3 marathons and had a completely different experience each time (due to certain aspects of each race such as pacing, nutrition, mindset, and the course being different working or not working to varying levels in each race), I guess I just find myself fascinated by endurance events more than most people. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good max C&J event or a short 21-15-9 two-movement metcon as well, but I find something super special about the endurance events. To each their own, I guess.

This event can be run for all 80 individual competitors in one heat due to it's simplicity. How long does it take to run 4-8 heats of a 15-20 minute workout? The answer is, a lot longer that this will take them to do in one heat. I think that it will be exciting, and I agree with your take Hiller. You nailed it Hiller. There needs to be long workouts (45+ mins) in order to test the aerobic system. Otherwise it’s not a complete test of fitness. I personally think they should run a 10k every year.
