A secret rocket launch in South Korea on December 30, 2022, has set social media abuzz. Many citizens reported seeing a suspicious flying object and mysterious lights across the country. But the country’s defence ministry later confirmed the soaring object was a solid-fuelled rocket it had test-fired. The launch was not announced to the public as it involved sensitive military security issues, officials said.

@@ivangim1 I don't think you know the definition of an "unidentified flying object". Literally any object flying that is unidentified whether it has sparklers or not is classified as unidentified flying object. Balloons can be classified as such, drones and whatnot.
UFO has really been greatly stigmatised to aliens so much so that the US now calls it UAPs.
*Plot twist : It was an actual 'UFO' but the government tried to cover it up in the name of 'Secret rocket launch'.

for anyone wondering, it's called "twilight effect" where rockets launch at the right moment of dawn or dusk, the sun ray at hundred kilometers above will glow the rocket trails.

"Unannounced" may have been a better word. The news often doesn't use the best translators and some even use Google which is worse than none.

We had a similiar sight in Bangladesh when India launched an intercontinental ballastic missile last month. It took an hour or two to find out the source of the light, till then we were clueless.

@Minarchist 412 no. I learned about few weeks back ago. Actually this effect only when missile is in below 100km because air density is still high but you won't see if it travels above 100km because of thin air.

If China chooses tension on this peninsula they will pay dearly. We Koreans has a very strong collective memory of the war strated by Stalin and aided by Mao, though very much polluted for the last 30 years. The US and Europe fell in China-love and Russia-love. In those days the value-judgement on totalitarianism itself was a political sin.
Now the world has been changing. We Koreans can be proud of the fact that we repelled Stalin's scheme aided by Mao. Of course, with the particaption of the UN Command forces led by the US.
We are inherently, essentially very much hard-line when it comes to standing against China and North Korea. That is why the US had put shackles on the development of missiles and nuclear arms, by South Koreans. Even the nuclear-propelled submarines and reprocessing of the nuclear power-plant fuel. Actually, since the US has banned reprocessing, we could not help storing massive amount of unprcocessed 'used fuel' . If we ever start processing it, existentially threatened by China's provocation via NK, we can make thousands of nuke heads in very short time. We do not want to be pressed to do this dangerous job.
But it depends on China's choice. The US finally freed our capability to develop missiles in 2021. Thanks to China.
The US is making its Missille Defense capable of closely interoperating with ours, which is the only exceptional case. Thanks to China.
The US allowed us to export arms to Poland. Thanks to China.
We guess that the US will soon allow us to build nuclear-propelled attack submarines (SSGN, not SSBN). Thanks to China.
