      For once I think he mentioned "cook with your eyes." Sooo often I terribly estimate measurements because I rely on just the amount it feels and looks like. I'd honestly expect better from Gordon if its meant to be educational so people might need it, but after years cooking in a deli I don't measure anything really unless it's my first time or one my first.

    • @millersj
      @millersj Před 2 lety +43

      @@RJ-es6og I first learned to cook by watching Gordon's "Ultimate Cookery Course," and he didn't measure anything in the entire series. I don't think he ever even said the word tablespoon. It was intimidating to follow along with, but once I realized what a "bunch" of this or a "touch" of that was to my taste, it drastically improved my confidence in the kitchen.

    I’m French and we don’t actually call this “French Bread”, we call it “Pain perdu”, which means “Lost Bread”. It is called like this because we traditionally use old, dry bread that hasn’t been eaten yet. The dry (or “lost”) bread is then cooked again, topped with either jam or sugar, and so is given ‘a new life’.

    The best bread for French toast is a fresh Challah bread. But most states don’t have a large Jewish population so if you can’t get your hands on a loaf from a kosher deli, a loaf of Kings Hawaiian sweet bread will do, they’re basically the same thing.
    Challah bread is also especially good with honey 🤤 buttery sweet and honey
