    Mich fasziniert diese Violine, so zart und doch so mitreißend. Eine wunderschöne Ballade, wunderschön gespielt.

    This aria from Korngold's Dead City always got deep inside my soul in it's vocal, operatic version and it sooths my sol played by a violin. It's just beautiful in every form...

    My grateful thanks to Decca(?) for posting this.
    Nicola Benedetti plays it so beautifully.I had never thought that anyone would play this aria as a violin solo,if anything it is more heartbreaking this way than when sung.
    I bought it as soon(almost) as when I heard it,and am listening to it now as I type this!
    The Silver Violin also has some other lovely pieces om it too, including Pierot's Song from Die Tote Stadt,and Korngold;s Violin Concerto, and three pieces of Shostakovich film music.

    Love this aria as a violin solo with orchestra! Wish Nicola would record an instrumental version of Massenet's aria Le Reve (En fermant les yeux) from his opera Manon. In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful arias in existence and would sound equally lovely as a violin solo with orchestra.

    Heard her play this on Proms tonight.Erich Korngold a great talent which some say was wasted writing Hollywood film scores.

    • @williamsullivan7252
      @williamsullivan7252 Před 9 lety +2

      +Maurice Brown - Korngold did not waste his time in Hollywood. When he returned to Vienna after WWII the fiction was that he had wasted his talent in Hollywood. The truth was that his music was no longer respected because he was a Jew. His most popular work is the violin concerto written in 1946. It is played often these days. He conducted and produced operas in his later years. Historic truth is better served by not repeating fictions.

      Korngold's Hollywood scores are so incredible there's no way they are a waste of any type at all. They elevated cinema.

      If you read my post properly Mr Sullivan you will see that I said that some people thought this.I didn't actually state what my opinion is on the matter.All of Korngold's film scores are great and his City of Dead is suplime.I enjoy listening to any music that he created.

    How sensible of you no longer to answer those knowledgeable people who point out your more ludicrous errors [the recent Hanslick or Sarasate howlers :-) ] - your ensuing fits of rage just made you seem all the more ridiculous. Besides, the true musical connoisseur need not be troubled by anything so paltry as getting his facts right. He just goes back to writing cheap insults about artists to whom talent & years of hard work have brought something which you clearly cannot abide : success.

    Nothing special as played, carmel sweetby a 25 minute trill near the end. Nothing to do with Korngold's meanings in the opera. The film director should be banned from ever doing something like this again ... as to the 'actors' ... hope they can sing well. This is terrible... I cannot watch it again, even though it was filmed on the Staten Island Ferry.
