      Because they didn’t care much about her, remember?
      1. She was being bullied.
      2. It took HOURS for a teacher to send someone to look for her and the one chosen was her bully.
      3. Dippet speaks as though he doesn’t know much about her, he at least didn’t use her name and he didn’t seem to consider asking Myrtle . (Which is why Harry didn’t realize that she was the girl who died until after speaking to Aragog.)
      4. Harry notes that Myrtle reacted as though she hadn’t been so flattered when he questioned her.
      5. Myrtle was often upset in general as a ghost.
      6. Myrtle wanted revenge on her bullies.
      It’s not uncommon for bullied/neglected children to grow apathetic to those around them. She probably decided that if they weren’t interested in her, why should she be interested in them. So she kept quiet until someone aka Harry, finally decided to ask her about her own death.

    Your logic is a little off. This is exactly the order I’ve already read it, that Tom went to the Gaunt shack/ killed his Father’s family before he opened the Chamber of Secrets. I’ve always subscribed to the theory that the ring passes on the knowledge of how to open the chamber.
    However, we don’t get any confirmation in the books about when Tom turned the ring into a horcrux. This could still have been after he made the diary horcrux. In fact Wizarding World just says that “after a time of wearing the ring himself, Voldemort eventually turned the ring into a horcrux, and buried it deep within the ruins of his old family home, protecting it with enchantments”. This suggests Tom stopped wearing the ring after it became a horcrux. So if he was wearing the ring when he asked Slughorn about horcruxes, it probably wasn’t yet a horcrux.

      Except the ring and resurrection stone are Peverell family heirlooms, not Slytherin as the locket belonged to Slytherin himself. Yes these two families (descendants of Cadmus Peverell) merged at some point post c. 1250AD as 3rd brother Ignotus (Harry's ancestor) died in 1292 once he'd attained great age. As Slytherin secretly built the Chamber, his locket is the likely artifact to contain the secret of its location.

    • @Molnek
      @Molnek Před měsícem +2

      @@tarahillman5571 The main problem with that is we don't know if the locket held memories or written instructions. By the time the Gaunts could've got the stone English had changed, and the locket could've been useless. If they thought the stone merely let them talk to dead relatives well that's great because they all speak parseltongue and could talk to Slytherin himself with no problem. These items and places have been around 1000 years it's more likely things have been known, forgotten, and relearned when even the invisibility cloak that was passed in a line was forgotten to be extraordinary.

    The chamber of secrets was opened in 1943 (presumably in June), the summer of his sixteenth year which you are referring to is the summer of 1943. He killed myrtle, and supposedly made the horcrux, before he found the ring. My theory is that when he talked to slughorn (in his sixth year so probably 1944) he had the ring but did not yet make it a horcrux since he wanted to hear from slughorn if it was possible to make more than one.
    Ps. It is also beautiful that the horcruxes are destroyed in the same order they were created: diary, ring, locket, cup, diadem, Harry, Nagini, then voldemorts body (which was actually created last at the end of goblet!)

    One big flaw in your story is that Tom was wearing the ring after the chamber had been opened (we know this because Tom mentions the DADA teacher retiring, the position which he then asked Prof Dippett if he could have which strongly suggests this scene was set in his seventh year). Once he made an object a horcrux he no longer kept it around much less went about wearing it while talking about horcruxes.
    Next the instructions are in Hufflepuff’s cup? If true that can’t be where he gets the information from since he doesn’t come into possession of it until after he leaves school when he has his first job collecting artefacts for Mr Burke.

    @BrazenPhrasin Před měsícem +1

    I feel this theory HAS to be right!
    I think the key clue is when in CoS he tells Harry "You didn't think I would keep my filthy mudblood father's name, did you?". This indicates that the 16 year old Tom knew about the ring, it's history and the locket before he made the diary. He also already knew his father was not a wizard as he had thought and had already figured out that his mother was a witch. He also said in Chapter 17 that he had been looking for how to get into the Chamber for 5 years, so he seemingly had an affinity for Salazar even before he knew he was his heir. All of this must have been discovered earlier than the creation of the diary. It was also really likely that the ring was made a horcrux before the diary because he would have had to obtain the ring which required framing his uncle, and thus he made it a horcrux with the death of his father all in the one summer.

    Currently on Forbidden Forest chap of PoS on your podcast. ❤️ All your content and theories. A few chapters ago you mentioned broomsticks having cores and discussing wand woods. I think you may have overlooked one important detail. Wands are made from trees of "wand quality wood" usually occupied by Bowtruckles. Seems likely that racing brooms along with other magical objects such as vanishing cabinets are made from these same trees possesing magical properties. Much like Gellert Grindelwald says that magic occurs in rare souls, certian trees of same speicies in a forest have innate magic. Perhaps the great oak doors in the Hogwarts entrance hall or Durmstrang pirate ship were built using the same quality wood to make magic wands?
    Be cool to see a video of potential everyday items from furniture or rolltop desks to other household things that are harvested from these specific trees and how it makes them inherently magical without need of specific charms added.

    Day 7 of asking can you do a video where the Potters survived? The scenario I'll make up is when Voldemort breaks in, Instead of killing James, he tortures and used the paralyzing spell on him and makes him pass out and plans to finish him off later when Harry is dead because as Dumbledore said, he likes waiting for his enemies to beg for death before killing them. Upstairs with Lily, the same thing basically happens except Lily misses the curse and falls on the ground. Harry still gets the love protection and Voldemort still loses his body because Lily was prepared to sacrifice herself for Harry. We saw this in Deathly Hallows when Harry's protection from sacrificing himself stopped Voldemort from torturing Neville when he stood up, Even though Harry didn't die.

    It is possible that the diary is still the first. You could make the argument That the Gaunt told Tom how to open the chamber of secrets before having his memory erased, in which case neither the ring or the diary are horcruxs when he asks slughorn about them and then he can start actually making them with Myrtle being the first one to kick it off. Because we know that the chamber was open in his fifth year, but he never said that the diary was created in his fifth year. He just said he had to preserve his 16-year-old self within its pages.
    Tom was told by Gaunt,
    he erased the memory of it,
    went there to start,
    discovered horcrux's,
    inquired about it,
    realizing with horcruxs he could reopen the chamber again at a later date,
    created the dairy and decided if he's already gonna start down that path.
    Why not turn his family ring into his second one?

      A few problems with that 1 what secret keeper would still be alive 1000 years later 2 a condition of the spell is that the secret keeper MUST be able to speak a human language & MUST be capable of divulging the secret if they so choose (so it can't be the basilisk as parseltongue is clearly defined as the language of snakes & CAN'T be learned or taught however the sorting hat CAN speak a human language & CAN choose to divulge it's secret so it counts & personally I believe scbs theory about this is correct) 3 even a secret protected by the fidelius charm is still known by everyone who knew the secret beforehand they just can't tell anyone who doesn't already know 4 the legend of the chamber itself specifically states that no one else knew where it was except for Slytherin and his heirs not even the other founders knew

    - killing a random muggleborn with the goal of killing more muggleborns in future

  • @SlyLashes
    @SlyLashes Před měsícem +1

    No, I'm sorry. This is stretching the facts to breaking point. Ilove the head canon that the locket gives the entrance location as well. But instead of trying to force this timeline onto the locket idea, consider instead: just as countless Slytherin descendents (not all of whom would have had the locket) had done for years, Tom Riddle heard the Basilisk moving through the pipes, talking about ripping and killing. He is one of the smartest students at Hogwarts, so I guess he figures out the pipes and Basilisk information even faster than Hermione. Once you know pipes are involved, it's a matter of going from one plumbing fixture to another to look for a way into the pipes. Just as Harry did, I'm sure Tom realized the thing that he had in common with Slytherin was likely the key to both opening the Chamber and controlling the Basilisk.
    It isn't very likely that JK Rowing and many editors awkwardly gave Tom's age in a way that would confuse readers. What is more likely is that Tom was 16. He entered his sixth year at Hogwarts after that.
    Recall that the diary had a date on it, so he had it 50 years before Harry found it. We know the diary is purchased and the Chamber opened the same year, in Tom's fifth year.
    We know Tom has his uncle's ring when he speaks to Slughorn. That happens his sixth year. It is another parallel between Harry and Tom, since Harry is learning all of this at the same age. In fact, we have more reason to believe the horcrux conversation happens closer to when Tom leaves Hogwarts because there is a rumor (or Tom used legilimancy to find out) the DADA professor Merrythought is retiring soon, and this is the job Tom asks Headmaster Dippet for a year later.
