Your missing one additional fact. Dumbledore would have the cloak at the time the eye was made. Dumbledore said he wanted to study it. The eye could have been made as part of the studying process to see what it would take to see through it. So the eye could have been made before Moody needed it.
Also, also Dumbledore knew James as a kid. So the eye could have been made even earlier. But it makes more sense it was done when Dumbledore was studying the cloak.

So now we need a What If series concerning Dumbledore’s Hallows. The eye(replaces the stone), the deluminator (replaces the cloak), and Hagrid’s umbrella (replaces the wand). What if Voldemort believed in the hallows and sought them all out, and Harry had to use Dumbledore’s newly created hallows to combat them?

    • @edeepolyakovsky7201
      @edeepolyakovsky7201 Před 2 měsíci +74

This would be so awesome but I think the eye would replace the cloak and the deluminator would replace the stone. SCB made a video before theorizing that Dumbledore made the deluminator as an attempt to recreate the powers of the stone (i.e. reaching your loved ones) and in this video they talk about the eye’s power to see through the cloak. The three objects are almost like anti-Hollows. The eye penetrates the cloak, the deluminator brings you to your loved ones, but only if they are alive unlike the stone which shows you your dead loved ones but can’t bring you to them, and Hagrid’s umbrella is a humble wand which people are led to believe is not even actually a wand, while the elder wand is famous and believed to be the most powerful wand of all. Anyway, a What If? video about this would be great!

I completely forgot that Moody got his eye after Voldemort fell. I always thought it was much earlier. Given how cautious Moody is, there's no way he would just use any old magical artifact, especially one of unknown origin to replace his eye. So at the very least he must have gotten it from Dumbledore (who else would he trust?) From that logic, Dumbledore making it isn't a huge leap as he wouldn't give Moody something he didn't 100% trust himself and the only way to do that would be to make it. Somewhat circular logic but it does make sense in context.

What puzzles me about the Eye is how many “layers” can it see through? We know it can see through the Cloak. We also know that it can see through clothing (He can see the socks from Dobby under Harry’s dress robes at the Yule Ball). It can also see through the floor/ceiling and furniture (he sees the boggart at Headquarters in Order). Can he (literally) see through people and their clothes? Can he see anywhere in a building? Is there a limit? Does he have to consciously think what he wants to focus on? (That sounds mentally exhausting, overstimulating, and taxing.) is this mentioned anywhere? What do y’all think?

I am not sold on the idea that the eye was made by Dumbledore, thou he might have helped enchanting it.
However I feel like the biggest misconception is with the, "ability to Invisibility Cloaks". I don't think the eye can see beneath an invisibility cloak, it can simply see a protection spell in effect. And that may have something to do with the color blue, and how that arbsorbs light from sources.

This theory about Dumbledore creating the eye with the Elder Wand has been my personal theory for so long. I've actually commented about it on some of your videos. I'm super happy you've created a video about this theory because it makes so much sense :D

I've always been under the impression that seeing as Dumbledore always seemed to know when Harry was around wile under the cloak and the Dumbledore had the cloak for years before giving it to Harry that he had put some kind of charm on it to let him know if it was near and that Moody's eye was able to see the spell that the headmaster had put on it

I was wondering this just a day or 2 ago, I have just started the video so before I watch it I'm guessing it was Dumbledore using the Elder Wand to make the eye and that's what gives it the power to even pass the power of Harry's Invisibility Cloak despite it being a Deathly Hallow.

  • @jonahthrane812

My head canon as to how the eye was made was the youngest brothers descendants made it at one point. Or by the youngest brother himself.
Imagine your son having taken the cloak one day, and you can't find your kids, because they are perfectly invisible, so you invent an eye to see even those hidden by your ancestors cloak.

Whilst it is possible and maybe even probable Dumbledore made they eye, I have a few issues with the theory (theories I guess).
    1. Do we know the Elder Wand really could repair wands? We only see it in this one specific case where Harry is the owner of both wands, so we can't really say whether it can repair others. I always wondered what happened to Dumbledore's original wand and whether he just magicked that into an umbrella for Hagrid? It doesn't really matter either way, as if the EW could repair wands, Dumbledore would have done.
    2. I don't think Dumbledore could see Harry under the coat at Hagrid's, I think he just used intuition. Hagrid was being rather obvious by looking at that corner and being all jittery. To anyone who knew Harry possessed the cloak, it would have been clear he was there. That or he just saw him walk there earlier from his office window or used non-verbal magic.
That's sorta it, I do believe Dumblie created the eye, but the biggest question that remains: WHAT DOESE THE BOGGART LOOK LIKE TO MOODY (when he sees it through several floors)?! Sorry for shouting, but I've been asking myself that for years. Is it a shapeless mass or something he fears? Also that whole seeing through clothes thing is mega creepy considering he's at a school... How does it work? Does he have to focus on it to look through it? It seems a little head-fornicating otherwise.

i very much like this theory, i've always been a bit "meh" on you guys' idea that it was somehow grindewald's blue eye, just didn't seem to fit or make all that much sense, but i have no trouble accepting that dumbledore with the elder wand could make something on par in ability with a deathly hallow, really nicely put together this one!

I don't know if my 2 comments a few weeks ago had any impact on this video or theory regarding the comments on Dumbeldore's eye color and the possibilitiy that Dumbeldore both made the eye and had one of his own, but it is my head canon that someone saw the comments and worked off of them❤️ Great vide! Looking forward to your next podcast episodes. I love the longer ones where you guys go on tangents and talk about random things.

I love your theories, they are always so good and even after 20+ years make me reread and think about things in the books.
Have you ever consdered, doing a theory on Harry s soul part and how it affects his feelings towards people?
The abilities (like being more resilient against the Imperio) it might help him achieve?
I had a discussion specifically about Harry being able to resist "Moody s" Imperio and the little voice coming up in his head for it.
is it Harry s subconsiousness or is it Voldemort, who does not want to be controlled?
    Also...
Could the part of Voldemorts soul be the reason Harry has this HUGE dilke towards Snape (in the books) - because up until Goblet the soul piece might think Snape a traitor?
The sould pievce is sort of my "look up point" for my current reread.

Can we do a J vs Ben which is buzz in style - so quizmaster plays a clip from the audiobook and whoever can buzz in the fastest to say what book it is from and the context gets a point! I listen to Stephen Fry, and the brothers listen to Jim Dale so mixing up the narrators would also add some spice to the quiz

Hey! Love your Videos and particulary your theories! I had a question: Could it be possible that Voldemort also had a time turner in school? He is Always described as being a fantastic Student and even without muggle studies, he would have had 11 subjects (Hermione still had one after she quid Trelawnys class)
And I think it could be argued that He had all Others considering that you would need a lot of subjects to be viewed as one of the best students Hogwarts ever had and be ready for a great future in the ministery.
Edit: Especially in year 5 he could have used the extra time to search for the chamber of secrets and of course to keep a close eye in Hagrid (although maybe He entrusted his followers with the latter).

Hey Ben, thank you for the awesome video discussing the origins of the magical eye. You mentioned that Dumbledore created the eye, but I wanted to bring up an interesting detail from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," Chapter 4, "The Leaky Cauldron."
In this chapter, while Harry is in Flourish and Blotts, the manager laments, "I'm never stocking them again, never! It's been bedlam! I thought we'd seen the worst when we bought two hundred copies of the Invisible Book of Invisibility - cost a fortune, and we never found them." This incident raises a fascinating point: those who created and printed these invisible books must have had the knowledge with magical artifact to be able see them and print them in the first place.
This suggests that the craft of creating magical artifacts capable of seeing invisible objects, such as the clock, books, and other items, was already known, and Dumbledore likely had access to this specialized knowledge through his connections. This reinforces and highlights how rare and protected such knowledge must be in the wizarding world. Just wanted to share this detail with you. Thanks again for the great content!

"What If Regulus Black Lived?" That could have some big changes to characters. Like Regulus and Sirius being better and closer. Regulus potentially being a secret spy for Sirius.
